Daniel Nguyen from Hamilton, Ontario and Zackoria Louis from Norton, Ohio both received written Feature Matches for the Genesys Format Main Event yesterday, and both of them won those Matches. Now, they’re paired against one another in a Match that will eliminate one of them from the tournament. Louis is back with his Regenesis Voiceless Voice Deck, and Nguyen returned with his Lyrilusc Mimighoul Deck. Only one of these Duelists will advance to the Top 4. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Nguyen started off Duel 1 by activating Mimighoul Dungeon and using its effect to add Mimighoul Dragon from his Deck to his hand.

He Normal Summoned it and used its effect to add Mimighoul Maker from his Deck to his hand. He activated the Maker and revealed Mimighoul Flower and Mimighoul Archfiend from his Deck. He randomly Special Summoned the Archfiend to Louis’s field face-down and added the Flower to his hand, then Special Summoned Mimighoul Fairy from his hand in Defense Position. Next, he activated the effect of Flower in his hand to Special Summon it face-down to Louis’s field. He combined Fairy with Dragon to Xyz Summon Ripple Bird and detached an Xyz Material to flip Flower into face-up Attack Position. Its effect activated, allowing Nguyen to add Mimighoul Archfiend from his Deck to his hand before taking control of the Flower. Next, He used Ripple Bird’s effect again to flip the Mimighoul Archfiend on Louis’s field into Attack Position. Nguyen drew a card, Louis sent Regenesis Dragon from his hand to the Graveyard, and then Nguyen took control of the Archfiend. Louis activated the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being from his hand next. He Tributed all monsters on the field to Special Summon Nibiru in Attack Position, and gave Nguyen a Primal Being Token in Attack Position with 1000 ATK and 4000 DEF. Nguyen paid 4000 Life Points to activate Illusion Gate next. He destroyed Nibiru and then Special Summoned Regenesis Dragon from Louis’s Graveyard. Next, Nguyen activated the effect of Mimighoul Archfiend in his hand to Special Summon it face-down to Louis’s field. Nguyen Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Louis drew Nibiru, the Primal Being and added it to his hand of Regenesis Code, Dark Spirit’s Mastery, and Regenesis Birth. He activated Regenesis Code in the Draw Phase and Special Summoned Regenesis Archfiend from his Deck. He activated its effect to add Regenesis Sage from his Deck to his hand. Nguyen flipped Mimighoul Room to Special Summon Mimighoul Dragon from his Deck to Louis’s field face-down and flip the Regenesis Archfiend face-down. Louis entered his Main Phase and then activated Dark Spirit’s Mastery by discarding Nibiru, the Primal Being. He added Lava Golem from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned it to Nguyen’s field by Tributing Nguyen’s 2 monsters. Nguyen banished Mimighoul Maker from his Graveyard to activate its effect and flip the Mimighoul Archfiend on Louis’s field face-up. Its effect activated, and Louis immediately conceded.

Duel Two

Louis opened up Duel 2 with Regenesis Lord, Royal Archfiend, Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice, and 2 copies of Mystical Space Typhoon. He activated the effect of Royal Archfiend by Tributing it from his hand and added Regenesis Archfiend from his Deck to his hand. He revealed Regenesis Lord to Special Summon Regenesis Archfiend in Defense Position and used the Archfiend’s effect to add Regenesis from his Deck to his hand. He activated Regenesis to add Regenesis Sage from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned the Sage in Defense Position. He banished his Archfiend to Special Summon Regenesis Lord from his hand and used its effect to Set Regenesis Birth from his Deck. Louis Set both copies of Mystical Space Typhoon before ending his turn.

Nguyen entered his Main Phase and then activated Way Where There’s a Will. He activated its effect, but lost out to Louis’s Mystical Space Typhoon. Next, Nguyen activated the effect of Mimighoul Slime in his hand to Special Summon it face-up to his own field. He activated Where Arf Thou? next, adding Mimighoul Fairy from his Deck to his hand. He activated the effect of Mimighoul Fairy in his hand to Special Summon it face-up to his field. Next, he activated the effect of Mimighoul Flower to Special Summon it face-down to Louis’s field. He combined Fairy with Slime to Xyz Summon Lyrilusc – Assembled Nightingale and then activated Life Hack, targeting the Assembled Nightingale. Louis Chained Regenesis Birth’s effect by sending Regenesis Archfiend from his Deck to his Graveyard, and put the Nightingale face-down. Nguyen Chained the Nightingale’s effect so that he couldn’t take damage for the rest of the turn, and then his Nightingale went face-down. He Set a card to his back row and passed, but lost his Set Mimighoul Room to Louis’s Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase. He also lost 2000 Life Points in the End Phase due to the effect of Where Arf Thou? and Nguyen returned Regenesis Archfiend from his Graveyard to his hand in the End Phase.

Louis drew Regenesis Code and then Special Summoned Regenesis Archfiend and Regenesis Warrior from his hand. Overwhelmed by Louis’s Regenesis monsters, Nguyen finally conceded.

Duel Three

Nguyen started off Duel 3 by activating the effect of Mimighoul Cerberus in his hand and Special Summoning it to Louis’s field. Next, he Normal Summoned Mimighoul Archfiend and used its effect to flip the Cerberus face-up. Its effect activated, and Louis banished Illusion Gate, Dogmatika Punishment, and Dogmatika Fleurdelis, the Thunderbolt from the top of his Deck, and then Special Summoned Dogmatika Fleurdelis to Nguyen’s field. Control of the Cerberus switched back to Nguyen, and then he combined it with Archfiend to Xyz Summon Lyrilusc – Recital Starling. He used its effect to increase Dogmatika Fleurdelis’s ATK and DEF by 600 and then detached an Xyz Material from Recital Starling to add Lyrilusc – Sapphire Swallow from his Deck to his hand. He activated its effect in his hand to Special Summon it from his hand along with a Lyrilusc – Cobalt Sparrow. He used Cobalt Sparrow’s effect to add Lyrilusc – Beryl Canary from his Deck to his hand. He combined Cobalt Sparrow with Sapphire Swallow to Xyz Summon Giant Mimighoul. He activated its effect to add Mimighoul Maker from his Deck to his hand. He activated the Maker, revealing Mimighoul Archfiend and Mimighoul Dragon from his Deck. He randomly Special Summoned Mimighoul Dragon face-down to Louis’s field and added Mimighoul Archfiend to his hand. He then combined Giant Mimighoul with Recital Starling to Xyz Summon Number F0: Utopic Future Zexal in Defense Position. Next, he activated the effect of a Mimighoul Archfiend in his hand to Special Summon it face-down to Louis’s field. He then activated Beryl Canary’s effect to Special Summon it from his hand and Special Summon a Cobalt Sparrow in his Graveyard. He used both monsters as Xyz Materials to Summon Ripple Bird, and it gained effects making it unable to be targeted, making it so that control of it couldn’t be switched, and increasing its ATK by 200. He used the Bird’s effect by detaching an Xyz Material and flipped Archfiend face-up. Nguyen drew a card, Louis sent Regenesis Warrior from his hand to the Graveyard, and then Nguyen took control of the Archfiend. Nguyen used his Bird’s effect to flip Louis’s face-down Dragon, and its effect activated, shifting control of it to Nguyen. Nguyen combined Dragon with Archfiend to Xyz Summon Lyrilusc – Recital Starling and used its effect to increase Utopic Future Zexal’s ATK by 600. He then detached an Xyz Material from the newly Summoned Recital Starling to add Lyrilusc – Turquoise Warbler from his Deck to his hand. He combined Ripple Bird with Recital Starling to Xyz Summon another Utopic Future Zexal and then Set 2 cards to his back row. In the End Phase, Louis returned Regenesis Warrior from his Graveyard to his hand with its effect.

Louis drew Regenesis Archfiend and added it to his hand of Regenesis, Regenesis Warrior, Royal Archfiend, and 2 copies of Regenesis Code.

He activated Regenesis, and Nguyen Chained Shared Ride. Louis added Regenesis Lord from his Deck to his hand, and Nguyen drew a card from the effect of Shared Ride. Next, Louis revealed Regenesis Lord from his hand to Special Summon Regenesis Archfiend from his hand in Attack Position, and declined to activate its effect. He banished the Archfiend to Special Summon Regenesis Lord, and again declined to activate its effect. He entered his Battle Phase, but was unable to attack due to the effects of the two copies of Utopic Future Zexal. In Main Phase 2, Louis activated Regenesis Code. Louis Chained the effect of a Utopic Future Zexal by detaching Recital Starling, then Chained Magic Deflector. The Deflector negated Code, and Utopic Future Zexal’s effect gave Nguyen control of Regenesis Lord. Louis Special Summoned Regenesis Warrior from his hand in Defense Position and then Set Regenesis Code to his back row before ending his turn.

Nguyen drew a card and then activated Mimighoul Dungeon. He used its effect to add Mimighoul Dragon from his Graveyard to his hand. He activated Dragon’s effect in his hand, Special Summoning it face-down to Louis’s field. Next, he activated the effect of Treasure Panther in his hand to Special Summon it in Defense Position. He used its effect to flip the Dragon face-up, and its effect activated to destroy all of his monsters. Then the Dragon was sent to the Graveyard, since there was no room for it on Nguyen’s field. Nguyen attacked with a Utopic Future Zexal, and Louis flipped Regenesis Code to Special Summon Regenesis Dragon from his Deck. Fleurdelis attacked and destroyed the Dragon, and then Nguyen’s remaining monsters attacked directly, dropping Louis down to 1400 Life Points. In the End Phase, Louis returned Regenesis Warrior and Regenesis Dragon from his Graveyard to his hand.

Louis drew Dark Spirit’s Mastery and activated it by discarding Regenesis Dragon. He added Lava Golem from his Deck to his hand, then Summoned it to Nguyen’s field by Tributing both copies of Utopic Future Zexal. He then Tributed Royal Archfiend from his hand to add Regenesis Archfiend from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it in Attack Position by revealing Warrior from his hand and then used its effect to add Regenesis Sage from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned the Sage in Attack Position and then Special Summoned Regenesis Warrior. He used the Warrior’s effect by Tributing it and returned the Regenesis Lord to his hand. He then banished Archfiend to Special Summon the Lord and used its effect to Set Regenesis Birth from his Deck. He banished a Regenesis Code from his Graveyard to Special Summon his banished Regenesis Archfiend to the field. He then banished Regenesis from his Graveyard to Special Summon Regenesis Dragon from his Graveyard. Regenesis Lord attacked Lava Golem and inflicted 2500 points of piercing battle damage, then Sage attacked and destroyed Treasure Panther. Nguyen used his Dragon’s effect to Tribute it and banish Mimighoul Dungeon next. He ended his turn with no cards in his hand.

Nguyen drew a card for his turn, entered his Main Phase, and then attempted to leave his Main Phase. Louis flipped Regenesis Birth. Nguyen entered his Battle Phase, and Louis used his Birth’s effect to send it to the Graveyard and Special Summon Dragon and Warrior. He used the Warrior’s effect by Tributing it and returned Fleurdelis from Nguyen’s field to his own hand. Nguyen Special Summoned Turquoise Warbler from his hand in Main Phase 2 and used its effect to Special Summon Cobalt Sparrow from his Graveyard. He used the Cobalt Sparrow’s effect to add another Turquoise Warbler from his Deck to his hand. He activated Where Arf Though? next, adding Mimighoul Dragon from his Deck to his hand with its effect. He activated its effect to try to Special Summon it, but Louis used his Sage’s effect and sent his Archfiend from the field to the Graveyard to negate the activation of the Dragon’s effect and destroy the Dragon. Nguyen used Cobalt Sparrow and Turquoise Warbler as Xyz Materials to Summon Mimighoul Throne and then detached an Xyz Material from it to use its effect and Special Summon Mimighoul Master from his Deck. He used the Master’s effect to add Mimighoul Slime from his Deck to his hand and then activated Slime’s effect to Set it face-down to Louis’s field. Next, Nguyen Special Summoned Treasure Panther from his hand in Defense Position. He used its effect to flip the Slime face-up and its effect activated. Nguyen Special Summoned Dragon from his Deck with Slime’s effect and then gained control of the Slime. He used the Dragon’s effect to add Mimighoul Maker from his Deck to his hand. He combined Dragon with Slime to Xyz Summon Number 31: Embodiment of Punishment. Next, he activated Mimighoul Maker and revealed Flower and Fairy from his Deck. He randomly Special Summoned Fairy face-down to Louis’s field and added the Flower to his hand. He activated Number 31’s effect next by detaching an Xyz Material from it and flipped the Flower face-up. Control switched to Nguyen and he combined it with Treasure Panther to Summon Lyrilusc – Assembled Nightingale. Next, he activated the effect of Mimighoul Flower in his hand to Special Summon it face-down to Louis’s field. Nguyen tried to pass his turn, but Louis used Fleurdelis’s effect while still in the Main Phase. Regenesis Dragon was sent to the Graveyard in the End Phase due to Birth’s effect, and then Louis returned Dragon, Archfiend, and Warrior from his Graveyard to his hand in the End Phase. Nguyen also lost 2000 Life Points in the End Phase due to the effect of Where Arf Thou?.

Louis drew Sauravis, the Ancient and Ascended and then Special Summoned Regenesis Archfiend from his hand by revealing Regenesis Dragon. He used Archfiend’s effect to add Regenesis Code from his Deck to his hand and then combined Archfiend and Fleurdelis to Xyz Summon Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star. He activated its effect, and Nguyen Chained the effect of Mimighoul Throne. Louis Chained Sage’s effect by sending Regenesis Code from his hand to his Graveyard. Nguyen Chained Assembled Nightingale’s effect so that his Lyrilusc cards couldn’t be destroyed during the turn, and he would take no damage for the rest of the turn. He further Chained Number 31’s effect, flipping Mimighoul Flower into Attack Position. The Chain resolved, and after the Flower flipped up, Louis used Dingirsu to send Number 31 to the Graveyard. In a new Chain, Flower’s effect activated, and Nguyen added Mimighoul Dungeon from his Deck to his hand before taking control of the Flower. Louis Special Summoned Regenesis Dragon from his hand next and then Special Summoned Regenesis Warrior. He entered his Battle Phase and destroyed the Flower and the Master, unable to inflict battle damage. He ended his turn with a field full of monsters.

Nguyen drew a card and activated his Nightingale’s effect in the Main Phase. He then Xyz Summoned Dragon Gate by using his Nightingale as an Xyz Material. He activated its effect, but Louis Chained the effect of his Regenesis Warrior to Tribute the Warrior and return Dragon Gate to the Extra Deck. Next, Nguyen Special Summoned Turquoise Warbler from his hand, and declined to activate its effect on the field to try to Special Summon a monster from his Graveyard. He Normal Summoned Droll & Lock Bird next and combined his 2 monsters to Xyz Summon Lyrilusc – Promenade Thrush. He then discarded a card from his hand and used Promenade Thrush as an Xyz Material to Xyz Summon Full Armored Utopic Ray Lancer. He entered his Battle Phase and attacked Sage with Utopic Ray Lancer. He inflicted 500 points of battle damage, but Louis protected the Sage from destruction by using the effect of Dingirsu and detaching an Xyz Material. In Main Phase 2, Nguyen used Utopic Ray Lancer as an Xyz Material to Summon Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder in Defense Position with 4 Xyz materials attached. In the End Phase, Louis returned Warrior and Archfiend from his Graveyard to his hand.

Louis drew Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice and then Special Summoned Warrior from his hand. He Tributed it to try to return Zeus to the Extra Deck, and Nguyen Chained Zeus’s effect. Louis Chained Sage’s effect and Nguyen Chained Zeus’s effect again to clear the field! But it was over moments later! When the Chain resolved, the field was completely cleared! Louis Special Summoned Regenesis Archfiend from his hand by revealing Skull Guardian and then banished Regenesis Code from his Graveyard to Special Summon a second Regenesis Archfiend to his field. Direct attacks from both Archfiends finished off the rest of Nguyen’s Life Points!
