Round 9 Feature Match: Jordan Yee vs. Charlie Chou

Jordan Yee from Scarborough, Canada and Charlie Chou from Seattle, Washington have both competed in YCS events in the past, but until this weekend, they have never made it into Day 2. Now, they’re facing off against one another! Both Duelists currently have 6-2 records, so they’re looking for victories in both of today’s Swiss Rounds in order to secure a spot in the Top 32. Yee is using a K9 Dracotail Deck and Chou is using a Fiendsmith Kashtira K9 Deck. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Chou started off his first turn by Special Summoning Kashtira Fenrir in Defense Position and using its effect to add Kashtira Unicorn from his Deck to his hand.

Next, he activated the effect of Fiendsmith Engraver by sending it to from his hand to the Graveyard. He added Fiendsmith’s Tract from his Deck to his hand. He activated it to add Fabled Lurrie from his Deck to his hand and discarded it. Next, he activated Lurrie’s effect to Special Summon it and Yee Chained the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Chou Special Summoned the Lurrie and sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, allowing Yee to draw a card from his Deck. Chou Special Summoned K9-17 Izuna from his hand next and used its effect to send K9-ØØ Lupis from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used Lupis’s effect to Special Summon it and then combined it with Izuna to Xyz Summon K9-17 “Ripper”. He detached an Xyz Material from Ripper to add “A Case for K9” from his Deck to his hand. He activated it to add K9-66b Lantern from his Deck to his hand and then activated Lantern’s effect. He Special Summoned it along with the Izuna in his Graveyard and then combined Lantern and Izuna to Xyz Summon N.As.H. Knight in Defense Position, allowing Yee to draw a card. Chou activated Kashtiratheosis targeting Fenrir next and Special Summoned Kashtira Unicorn from his Deck. Yee drew another card due to the effect of his Fuwalos. Chou used the Unicorn’s effect to add Kashtira Birth to his hand and activated it. He Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Yee drew K9-17 Izuna and added it to his hand of two more K9-17 Izuna, two copies of Dracotail Mululu, Ketu Dracotail, K9-66a Jokul, Shaddoll Beast, and Dracotail Lukias. He activated Ketu Dracotail and Chou Chained his Requiem’s effect to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears from his Deck. Yee resolved his Ketu Dracotail to add Dracotail Pan from his Deck to his hand and fuse Pan, Mululu, and Shaddoll Beast from his hand. He Fusion Summoned Dracotail Arthalion and then activated the effects of Beast, Pan, Mululu, and Arthalion in Chain. Yee used Arthalion’s effect to target N.As.H. Knight, Unicorn, and the Mululu in his Graveyard. Chou Chained his Lacrima’s effect to send Fiendsmith in Paradise from his Deck to his Graveyard.  N.As.H. Knight returned to the Extra Deck while Unicorn and Mululu returned to the hand. Then Mululu’s effect Set Rahu Dracotail from Yee’s Deck and negated Ripper’s effect. Pan’s effect resolved to Set Dracotail Flame from his Deck and destroy Fenrir. Finally, Yee drew an Ash Blossom with Beast’s effect. In a new Chain, Chou used the effects of Fiendsmith in Paradise and Kashtira Birth. He banished Ketu Dracotail, Shaddoll Beast, and Dracotail Pan from Yee’s Graveyard face-down and sent Fiendsmith’s Desirae from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Desirae’s effect and Chained K9-X Forced Release. He Special Summoned K9-X “Werewolf” over Ripper and destroyed the face-down Rahu Dracotail. He then resolved Desirae’s effect by returning Lurrie from his Graveyard to his Deck and sent the face-down Dracotail Flame to the Graveyard. Yee activated Izuna’s effect in his hand next to try to Special Summon it, and Chou Chained Werewolf’s effect to look at Yee’s hand and banish Lukias until the End Phase. Izuna was Special Summoned to the field and used its on-field effect to send K9-ØØ Lupis from Yee’s Deck to his Graveyard. He used its effect to Special Summon it from the Graveyard and then combined it with Izuna to Xyz Summon K9-17 “Ripper”. He used its effect by detaching Lupis and added “A Case for K9” from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and added K9-66b Lantern from his Deck to his hand and used its effect to Special Summon it alongside the Lupis in his Graveyard. He used Lantern’s effect to add K9-X Forced Release from his Deck to his hand and then activated it to Special Summon his Werewolf over Ripper and destroy Chou’s Werewolf. Lantern attacked and destroyed Lacrima, and then direct attacks from Yee’s remaining monsters finished Chou off!

After drawing a bunch of cards with the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Jordan Yee wins the first Duel of the Match! Chou elected to go second in Duel 2!

Duel Two

Yee opened up Duel 2 with Dracotail Lukias, two copies of K9-66a Jokul, Mulcharmy Purulia, and Mulcharmy Fuwalos.

He Normal Summoned Dracotail Lukias and activated its effect, but lost out to Chou’s Infinite Impermanence. Next, Yee activated the effect of Jokul in his hand to Special Summon it alongside another Jokul. He used one of their effects to add K9-66b Lantern from his Deck to his hand. Chou Special Summoned Izuna from his hand and used its effect to send Lupis from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Lupis back to his field with its effect and then combined his 2 monsters to Summon N.As.H. Knight. He used its effect to attach Number 101: Silent Honor ARK to his Knight and attach the Jokul on Yee’s field to his Knight. Yee sent Lukias to the Graveyard to Link Summon Artemis, the Magistus Moon Maiden. Then he sent Artemis and Jokul to the Graveyard to Link Summon S:P Little Knight and used its effect to banish N.As.H. Knight. He activated the effect of Lantern in his hand to Special Summon it along with a Jokul in his Graveyard, then combined both of them to Xyz Summon K9-17 “Ripper”. He used Ripper’s effect to add “A Case for K9” to his hand and Set K9-X Forced Release from his Deck. He activated “A Case for K9” to add Izuna to his hand and then Special Summoned it. He used its effect to send Lupis from his Deck to his Graveyard and then Special Summoned Lupis. He combined Lupis with Izuna to Xyz Summon Vallon, the Super Psy Skyblaster in Defense Position and then ended his turn.

Chou paid 1000 Life Points to activate Cosmic Cyclone targeting K9-X Forced Release and Yee Chained it to upgrade his Ripper into Werewolf. He Set a card to his back row next, and then used the effect of Lantern in his hand to try to Special Summon it along with a Lupis in his Graveyard – but Yee Chained Werewolf’s effect to banish the Lantern from Chou’s hand until the End Phase. Yee flipped up “A Case for K-9” and used its effect to add Jokul to his hand and then Normal Summoned it; but Yee used Valon’s effect to put it face-down before he could use its on-field effect. He ended his turn and returned the banished Lantern to his hand in the End Phase.

Lee drew Dracotail Faimena and switched his monsters into Attack Position. Vallon attacked and destroyed Jokul and then Little Knight and Werewolf attacked directly, dropping Chou down to 1100 Life Points.

Chou Normal Summoned Droll & Lock Bird and then tried to activate Lantern’s effect in his hand; but Lee banished the Lantern with Werewolf’s effect. Out of options and with no cards in his hand, he attacked Werewolf with his Droll & Lock Bird, dropping his own Life Points to 0.

Jordan Yee advances with a 7-2 record using his K9 Dracotail Deck at YCS Vancouver!
