Round 10 Feature Match: Steven Trifunoski vs. Kevin Ing
Welcome to the final Swiss round of YCS Vancouver! We’ve got a Feature Match with two Toronto area Duelists, Steven Trifunoski and Kevin Ing! Already a YCS Champion, Trifunoski is aiming for another title by playing one of the new Justice Hunters Decks, Yummy! Ing’s playing Mitsurugi Ryzeal – can the last format’s star Deck handle the Champion’s new candy cats?
Duel 1
Trifunoski won the dice roll, beginning with a hand of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Cooky☆Yummy, Effect Veiler, and Infinite Impermanence.
Ing made the first move, activating Mulcharmy Purulia. Trifunoski Normal Summoned Cooky, and Ing activated Fuwalos as well. Trifunoski Link Summoned Yummy★Snatchy, using its effect to put Yummyusment☆Mignon on the field. He used Mignon’s effect to bring Cooky back to the field. He Set Infinite Impermanence and passed the turn.

Ing activated the effect of Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi, and Trifunoski Chained Snatchy’s effect. He tuned it to Cooky to bring Cupsy★Yummy Way to the field. Habakiri’s effect brought Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji to the field, and Tributed it. In a new Chain, Ing used Saji’s effect, and Trifunoski activated Cupsy★Yummy Way’s effect. Ing used Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it, and Trifunoski Chained his monster’s effect, tagging it out for Snatchy and Cooky. The Chain resolved, and Ing put Mitsurugi Ritual in his hand. In a new Chain, Trifunoski used Snatchy’s effect, putting Yummyusment★Acroquey on the field, replacing Mignon. Ing continued, using Mitsurugi Ritual to Ritual Summon from his hand. Trifunoski Chained Snatchy’s effect once more, tuning it to Cooky for Lollipo★Yummy Way. Ing then Ritual Summoned Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi, Tributing Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa and Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi from his Deck.
This started a huge Chain, with Murakumo, Kusanagi, Acroquey, and Lollipo★Yummy Way all activating in that order. The Chain resolved with Acroquey destroying Murakumo, Murakumo wiping out Trifunoski’s monsters, and Mitsurugi Ritual returning to Ing’s hand. Acroquey’s other effect activated to bring Cupsy☆Yummy to the field. Cupsy’s effect put Yummy☆Surprise in Trifunoski’s hand. Ing played Mitsurugi Ritual, Ritual Summoning Habakiri from his Deck by Tributing the Habakiri in his hand. The Tributed Habakiri put Mitsurugi Prayers in his hand. He activated it to Special Summon Murakumo from the Graveyard, taking 800 damage. He stacked his monsters for Divine Golden Shadow Dragon Dragluxion! He tried using its effect, but Trifunoski used Effect Veiler here – Ing had Forbidden Droplet! He sent Dragluxion to the Graveyard, dodging Veiler and cutting Cupsy’s ATK in half. Dragluxion put Seventh Tachyon in Ing’s hand. He played it, revealing Masquerade to put Ice Ryzeal in his hand. He Normal Summoned it, and Trifunoski used Infinite Impermanence. With all his avenues shut down, and knowing Trifunoski had Yummy☆Surprise in hand to get things going on the next turn, Ing conceded the first Duel!
Duel 2
Ing chose to play first this time, while Trifunoski had a hand of Fuwalos, Effect Veiler, Ghost Ogre, Ash Blossom, and Obedience Schooled.
Ing started once more with Habakiri’s effect. Trifunoski Chained Fuwalos’s effect. Ing Special Summoned and Tributed Aramasa, letting Trifunoski draw Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones. Aramasa put Murakumo in Ing’s hand. He played Mitsurugi Ritual, Tributing Saji and Kusanagi from his Deck to Ritual Summon Murakumo from his hand. Saji and Kusanagi put Prayers and Ritual into his hand, respectively. He Set three back row cards and passed, not wanting to play into the Mulcharmy any more.

Trifunoski drew Mulcharmy Purulia. He played Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Sky Striker Ace Token. He Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari, returning Hornet Drones to his hand. He played it again, then used Kagari and the Token to Synchro Summon Cupsy★Yummy Way! Ing flipped up Infinite Impermanence to negate its effect. Trifunoski Normal Summoned Purulia, then used both monsters to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, which targeted one of Ing’s face-down cards. Ing Chained the other face-down card, Mitsurugi Prayers, Tributing Murakumo. Trifunoski used Ash Blossom to negate Prayers. Ing flipped up the card S:P Little Knight was targeting – Crossout Designator. He banished Pot of Prosperity from his Deck, negating that card if it was played this turn. In a new Chain, the Tributed Murakumo put a new Prayers in Ing’s hand, and he chose not to Special Summon it. Trifunoski couldn’t attack directly due to S:P Little Knight’s effect, so he passed the turn.
Ing played Mitsurugi Ritual to Ritual Summon Habakiri from his hand, Tributing a Habakiri from his Deck. The Tributed Habakiri’s effect activated, and Trifunoski Chained S:P Little Knight to banish itself and the on-field Habakiri. Both monsters left the field temporarily, and Ing put another Prayers in his hand. He activated Prayers to Special Summon Kusanagi and take 800 damage. Kusanagi put Mitsurugi Ritual back in his hand. Ing Special Summoned Node Ryzeal, stacking them for Ryzeal Duo Drive. He activated its effect, but Trifunoski destroyed it with Ghost Ogre! Its effect couldn’t resolve without any Xyz Materials to detach. Ing Set one back row card to finish, and S:P Little Knight and Habakiri returned in the End Phase.
Trifunoski drew Ash Blossom. He sent S:P Little Knight to attack Habakiri, losing the battle. Now with an empty field, he was able to activate Obedience Schooled and Special Summon Cooky☆Yummy, Cupsy☆Yummy, and Lollipo☆Yummy with their effects negated. He used Cupsy to Link Summon Snatchy, which put Yummyusment☆Mignon on the field. He used Mignon’s effect to revive Cupsy, which then put Yummy☆Surprise in his hand. Ing flipped up Prayers, and Trifunoski hit him with Ash Blossom! “YCS Champ diff, my friend,” he smiled, as he explained he’d drawn that Ash Blossom just this turn.
Trifunoski tuned Snatchy to Cooky for Lollipo★Yummy Way, which brought Snatchy and Cooky back to the field with their effects negated. He used Lollipo for another Snatchy. He Set Surprise and passed the turn – and Ing had Nibiru the Primal Being! Trifunoski replaced his field with a 5800/4600 Primal Being Token!
Ing went directly to the Battle Phase, hoping to prompt an action from Trifunoski. He then went to Main Phase 2, turned Nibiru to Defense Position, and Set a back row card. Trifunoski used Surprise, saying he wanted to “Special Cupsy Wupsy,” and used Cupsy’s effect to add Cooky☆Yummy to his hand.
Trifunoski drew Hornet Drones. He used Cupsy to Link Summon Snatchy, then used Mignon to Special Summon Cupsy, adding Lollipo to his hand. He Special Summoned Lollipo and Cooky from his hand, and thanks to the ATK boost from Mignon, he ended the Match!
