Cool Stuff that’s Never Been Legal Before

Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Genesys lets you use a bunch of cards that are normally Forbidden in Advanced Format Duels, because the point system stops you from using several in combination. But some combos ARE possible, so let’s look at things you can do that were never, ever, legal in Advanced Format!

Mirage of Nightmare + Cards You Can Play From Hand on Your Opponent’s Turn
Mirage has been Forbidden for over 20 years now. Not quite for the entire life of the Forbidden List, but awfully close! It was gone long before cards you can play from hand on your opponent’s turn were commonplace. In fact, it didn’t even live to see D.D. Crow! We’ve priced Mirage pretty low, so we’re expecting to see someone come up with a Deck that takes advantage of it. My favorite pairing is with Paleozoic Opabinia.

Double…no Triple! Pot of Greed
Most current Duelists have never played with even ONE Pot of Greed in their Deck, but at least for now, you can play THREE Pot of Greed if you want to! It’ll take nearly all your points so you’ll need to run a Deck theme with few or no costed cards, and your choices of defensive and power cards will be restricted. But maybe that doesn’t matter if you have 3 Pot of Greed? We’ll just have to see!

The Rare Hunter’s Exodia Deck
The Rare Hunter that defeated Joey and challenged Yugi with Exodia at the start of Battle City ran full playsets of the Exodia cards (3 copies of each piece) and used 2 Graceful Charity against Yugi. This was never legal even before the Advanced Format came into existence, but you can try it out if you want in Genesys!

Card of Safe Return in Mayakashi
There was a good chunk of time where there was a great Zombie Deck with Zombie Master, Il Blud, and Card of Safe Return in the Advanced Format. Card of Safe Return left the format circa 2009, long before Dakki, the Graceful Mayakashi hit the scene with the ability to revive 5+ times in a turn!

There’s plenty more to discover so if there’s a card that’s Forbidden in Advanced Format that you’ve always wanted to play with, try searching it up on the Genesys Deck-builder to see how much of your cap it’ll take up in Genesys!
