For Round 5, we’ve got two different K9 strategies, and two Canadian Duelists! Tian Rong is here from British Columbia, playing K9 Vanquish Soul for Team Princes, Target, Target. His opponent is Kevin Goncalves-Rodrigues, from Toronto, playing K9 Artmage for Team Ares.

Duel 1

Rong opened with two copies of Vanquish Soul Razen, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, K9-66a Jokul, and Vanuish Soul, Start!, winning the dice roll to play first.

Rong Normal Summoned Razen, adding Vanquish Soul Hollie Sue to his hand. He played Start, using it to add Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger to his hand. He used Jokul’s effect, Special Summoning it and Hollie Sue, and he added K9-66b Lantern to his hand. He used Hollie Sue’s effect to Special Summon Vanquish Soul Jiaolong. He stacked Jokul and Jiaolong for K9-17 “Ripper”, and used its effect to add K9-17 Izuna to his hand. He used Lantern’s effect, Special Summoning it along with the Jokul in his Graveyard. Lantern then put “A Case for K9” in his hand. He played Case, adding another Lantern to his hand. He returned Hollie Sue to his hand to Special Summon Heavy Borger, which let him draw a second Fuwalos. He used everything except Ripper to Link Summon Saryuja Skull Dread!

Saryuja’s effect let him draw Vanquish Soul Caesar Valius, Stake your Soul!, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He put Caesar Valius and his two Fuwalos on the bottom of his Deck. He played Stake, revealing Lantern, and Special Summoned Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love. Dr. Mad Love put Vanquish Soul Snow Devil in his hand. He used Dr. Mad Love to Link Summon Rock of the Vanquisher. Then, he Special Summoned Hollie Sue from his hand. He used it with Saryuja for S:P Little Knight. Rock’s effect put Hollie Sue back in his hand, and he Set Snow Devil to finish the turn.

Rodrigues Normal Summoned Artmage Power Patron. He then Special Summoned Artmage Finmel. He Tributed Finmel and discarded Artmage Pact -Awakening- to Special Summon Artmage Non-Finito from his Extra Deck. Its effect Set Artmage Vandalism -Assault-.Rong activated Hollie Sue’s effect to Special Summon it, then used Hollie Sue’s other effect to Special Summon from his Deck – but Rodrigues had Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. That allowed Rong to use Izuna’s effect, Special Summoning it and then sending K9-ØØ Lupis to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Lupis and activated its effect, stacking it with Izuna for N.As.H. Knight! It detached its materials, then attached Number 104: Masquerade from his Extra Deck and Rodrigues’s Non-Finito as materials. Rong Special Summoned Heavy Borger by returning Hollie Sue, and Borger let him draw another Izuna. Rodrigues flipped up Assault, and Rong used his Ash Blossom – Rodrigues conceded!

Duel 2

Rong’s opening hand this time was “A Case for K9”; Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring; Mulcharmy Purulia; Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love; and Nibiru, the Primal Being.

Rong activated Purulia’s effect in Rodrigues’s Standby Phase. Rodrigues simply Set a monster and two back row cards.

Rong drew Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. He Normal Summoned Dr. Mad Love, and it was hit with an Infinite Impermanence. Dr. Mad Love attacked and destroyed Rodrigues’s Set Artmage Power Patron, which put Artmage Academic Arcane Arts Acropolis in his hand. Rong used Dr. Mad Love to Link Summon Rock of the Vanquisher, which put Mad Love back in his hand. He played “A Case for K9”, adding Izuna to his hand. He activated Izuna’s effect, and it was negated and destroyed by Solemn Warning!

Rodrigues activated Acropolis, naming Artmage Graflare. Rong used Ash Blossom, Rodrigues responded with Called by the Grave, and Rong negated that with Ghost Belle! Rodrigues passed, and Rong used Rock’s effect to Special Summon Dr. Mad Love. That put Vanquish Soul, Start! in his hand.

Rong drew Reinforcement of the Army, and played it to find Razen. Rodrigues used his last card – Droll & Lock Bird! Rong played Start, then sent Dr. Mad Love to attack directly. Rock of the Vanquisher attacked as well, just to send a message. He used Dr. Mad Love to Xyz Summon Vanquish Soul Rocks, then Normal Summoned Razen. He used Razen and Rocks to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, banishing Acropolis. Rock of the Vanquisher put Razen back in his hand.

Rodrigues had no cards on the field or in his hand, but he drew… Ash Blossom! He Normal Summoned it, and Xyz Summoned Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis! Rong used Rock’s effect to get Dr. Mad Love back in his hand. TY-PHON attacked and wiped out S:P Little Knight. He then used TY-PHON to send Rock back to the Extra Deck.

Rong drew Jiaolong. He Normal Summoned Razen, adding Hollie Sue to his hand. He was going to continue, but his team mates won their Matches! That means this Match goes to Team Princess, Target, Target!
