YCS Columbus is finally here! For this Round 1 Advanced Format Feature Match, we have two Duelists playing Decks bolstered by the recently released Blazing Dominion. On one hand, Evan Spencer Schultz is playing the Kewl Tune Deck; however, he has chosen to include several Naturia cards, hoping that Naturia Bamboo Shoot will help him in certain difficult matchups. On the other hand, Cardwell is playing the DoomZ Deck, a strategy that uses several of the new Power Patron cards. Which of these Duelists will start off their YCS Columbus experience with a 1-0 record? Let’s find out! It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Schultz won the die roll and chose to go first! During the Draw Phase, he began by activating Kewl Tune Synchro and searching for Kewl Tune Cue. He then Normal Summoned Cue and Special Summoned Kewl Tune Rotary from the Deck. He used Cue and Rotary to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker! He banished Jupredo from the top of Cardwell’s Deck, looked at Cardwell’s hand, and searched for JJ “Kewl Tune” and another Kewl Tune Synchro. He activated JJ, then used his additional Normal Summon to bring out Kewl Tune Reco and search for Kewl Tune Mix! Finally, he Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Cardwell opened with Book of Eclipse, two copies of Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron, and two copies of DoomZ VII Seven – Elara, then drew Therion “King” Regulus for turn! He began his turn by activating Book of Eclipse, but it was met by Schultz’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Cardwell then activated Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron as a Pendulum Scale; here, Schultz activated the effect of Kewl Tune Clip, Special Summoning it, then using Mix and Reco to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix. Cardwell then activated Jupredo’s effect, destroying Jupredo and a copy of DoomZ VII Seven – Elara in hand, as well as Schultz’s Remix, then used Elara and Jupredo’s effects to Set DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” to his backrow and add Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus to hand, respectively. On resolution, Schultz activated Kewl Tune Synchro, searching for Kewl Tune Reco, then used Reco and Clip to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS! Schultz activated Reco’s effect to destroy Cardwell’s face-down DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.”. Cardwell followed up by activating Terminus, but Schultz Chained RS’ effect to negate it. 

Cardwell Normal Summoned Elara, then activated the effect of DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.”  in the Graveyard, equipping it to Elara. He then activated Elara’s effect, Xyz Summoning Doomz Break – Diactorus, then used it to Xyz Summon DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio! He activated Graflareio’s effect, searching for DoomZ Raiders and destroying Schultz’s Track Maker. Cardwell next activated Raiders, then used its effect to destroy Graflareio and Special Summon DoomZ V Five – Amalthe. He activated Amalthe’s effect to search for DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea. He also activated Graflareio’s effect, but it was met by Schultz’s Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Cardwell then activated the effect of Drastea, destroying Amalthe to Special Summon it from hand and equip it with DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G” from the Deck. He used Drastea’s effect to Xyz Summon DoomZ XII End – Drastrius and equip it with Schultz’s RS as an Equip Spell! Finally, he Special Summoned Therion “King” Regulus from hand, equipping it with Graflareio from the Graveyard, then proceeded to the Battle Phase. He attacked Schultz’s Life Points directly with Regulus and Graflareio, then ended his turn. 

Schultz started his turn by activating Duelist Genesis, but Cardwell Chained the effect of Regulus to negate it! Without any other cards to play, Schultz conceded the first Duel. 

Duel 2

Cardwell’s opening hand contained DoomZ Destruction, Mulcharmy Purulia, DoomZ VII Seven – Elara, DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea, and Book of Eclipse. 

Schultz chose to go first in the second Duel! He began by activating Kewl Tune Synchro to search for JJ “Kewl Tune”, and Cardwell responded by activating the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia. Schultz activated JJ, then activated another Kewl Tune Synchro, this time searching for Kewl Tune Rotary. He activated Rotary’s effect, revealing Kewl Tune Reco in hand, then Normal Summoned Rotary, allowing Cardwell to draw a card. He then used Rotary on the field and Reco from hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, as Cardwell activated the effect of a second Purulia! Schultz searched for his final Kewl Tune Synchro and a copy of Kewl Tune Cue. Schultz used the additional Normal Summon of JJ to bring out Naturia Camellia and send Naturia Sacred Tree to the Graveyard, but when he activated Sacred Tree’s effect, it was met by Cardwell’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Schultz used his final Normal Summon to Normal Summon Cue, Special Summoning Kewl Tune Reco from the Deck and searching for Kewl Tune Clip. Finally, he used Cue and Track Maker to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon, used Mix and Reco to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix, Set a card to his backrow, and ended his turn. 

Cardwell drew DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” for turn! He began his turn by activating Lightning Storm, attempting to destroy all of Schultz’s Spell and Trap Cards; however, Schultz Chained the effect of Remix, as well as Kewl Tune Synchro! He searched for Kewl Tune Reco, Special Summoned another Reco from the Graveyard and added Rotary back to hand as JJ was destroyed, then searched for Kewl Tune Mix. Next, Cardwell activated DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.”, equipping it to Schultz’s Zalen; here, Schultz activated the effect of Kewl Tune Clip in hand; Cardwell followed it up with Book of Eclipse, but Schultz negated it with Zalen! Schultz resolved Clip’s effect, Special Summoning it, then using it and Reco from hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS; this allowed him to activate Reco’s effect to destroy Cardwell’s DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.”! 

Cardwell then activated Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron as a Pendulum Scale, but when he activated its effect, Schultz responded with the effect of Kewl Tune RS, negating it! Cardwell then Normal Summoned DoomZ VII Seven – Elara, activating its effect to Set DoomZ Raiders to his backrow. He activated the effect of the DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” in his Graveyard, equipping it to Elara, then used Elara’s effect to Xyz Summon DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio, since Schultz’s RS increased Elara’s Level by 1. He activated its effect, searching for DoomZ Change and destroying Schultz’s Zalen, then activated Raiders, destroying Graflareio to Special Summon DoomZ V Five – Amalthe from his Deck! He used Amalthe’s effect to search for Power Patron DoomZ, as well as Graflareio’s effect to Special Summon Elara back from the Graveyard. He followed up by activating the effect of Drastea in hand, destroying his Jupredo to Special Summon it and equip it with DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G” from Deck. In the following chain, he activated Jupredo’s effect to search for Plundered Power Patron Plane – Vidolia. Cardwell used Drastea’s effect to Xyz Summon DoomZ XII End – Drastrius and equip it with Schultz’s RS. With RS no longer on the field, he was able to use Elara and Amalthe to Xyz Summon Springans Merrymaker, then used it to bring out Gigantic “Champion” Sargas and search for Therion “King” Regulus. Cardwell activated Change, then Chained Drastrius’ effect to destroy Change as Jupredo was sent to the Graveyard. He added Jupredo back to hand, then Special Summoned it to the field. Finally, he activated the effect of Jupredo on the field, banishing the top three cards of his Deck and destroying Jupredo to Special Summon Jupiter the Power Patron of Destruction and attach it with Power Patron DoomZ. He used Jupiter’s effect to Special Summon back DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio and destroy Schultz’s Reco. Here, Schultz knew that he wouldn’t be able to withstand Cardwell’s field full of monsters, and conceded. 

With that, Cardwell wins the round and starts off YCS Columbus with a 1-0 record!
