Genesys Format Round 7 Feature Match: Daniel Powell vs. Maya Burden
It is the last round of the night for the Genesys Format YCS today. We have two Duelists who both have a 5-1 record right now. Both Duelists are trying to accumulate as many points as possible to ensure their ticket to the Top 8 playoffs tomorrow afternoon.
Daniel Powell, from Columbus, Ohio! He lives just twenty minutes from where this event is taking place and is happy to play in a YCS so close to home.
Maya Burden, from Roanoke, Virginia, came from a few states away and is one of the three Monarch Duelists still at the top tables this weekend.
Neither duelist has had much of a chance to play Genesys outside of this event, so they’re loving the opportunity to play it at a competitive level like this.
Duel One
Powell won the dice roll and chose to go first.
Powell’s starting hand was Madolche Magiliene, Vernusylph of the Misting Seedlings, Vernusylph of the Thawing Mountains, Madolche Salon, and Madolche Anjelly.
Powell started the match by activating Madolche Salon! He used the additional Normal Summon to bring out Madolche Magiliene. Powell then activated Magiliene’s effect to add Madolche Petingcessoeur. He then activated and Special Summoned Petincessoeur and used its effect to Special Summon Madolche Puddingcess from his Deck.
Powell Xyz Summoned Madolche Teacher Glassouffle using Petingcessoeur and Puddingcess, then activated Glassouffle’s effect and detached Petingcessoeur to make Magiliene unaffected by monster effects. He then Xyz Summoned Madolche Puddingcess Chocolat-a-la-Mode using Glassouffle and used its effect to add back his Petingcessoeur.
In a new Chain, Powell activated Salon, then Chained Chocolat-a-la-Mode. He Special Summoned Anjelly with Chocolat’s effect, and then Set Madolche Chateau from his Deck with Salon. Powell activated Anjelly’s effect to Special Summon Madolche Hootcake. He activated Hootcake and banished his Glassouffle to Special Summon Madolche Messengelato! Powell activated Messengelato’s effect and added Madolche Promenade from his Deck to his hand.
Powell then activated his Set Chateau. He shuffled back all the monsters from his Graveyard into his Deck and triggered the effect of his Chocolate-a-la-Mode to Special Summon another Messengelato. Powell activated Messengelato’s effect and added Madolche Dessert from his Deck to his hand.
Powell then Xyz Summoned another Madolche Teacher Glassouffle using Messengelato and Magiliene. He then activated Vernusylph of the Misting Seedlings and discarded itself and Vernusylph of the Thawing Mountains to add Vernusylph of the Awakening Forests from his Deck to his hand. Powell then activated Awakening Forests and discarded itself and Anjelly to send Maxx “C” from his Deck to the Graveyard and Special Summoned the Anjelly.

Since a Madolche monster hit the Graveyard, Powell activated Glassouffle’s effect and added Maxx “C” and Misting Seedlings back to his hand! Normally, they would be shuffled back into the Deck, but because of Madolche Chateau, Powell was able to add them to his hand instead. He then Xyz Summoned Madolche Queen Tiaramisu with Anjelly and Messengelato, then Xyz Summoned Madolche Queen Tiarafraise using Tiaramisu. Powell Set Dessert and Promenade, and ended his turn!
During the Draw Phase, Powell activated Maxx “C”! In the Main Phase, Burden activated The Monarchs Stormforth, Powell activated his Madolche Promenade to negate Stormforth. He returned Puddingcess to his hand and then triggered his Madolche Salon’s mandatory effect, even though he didn’t have anything to Set from the Salon.
Burden activated Spell Card “Soul Exchange”, Powell chained the effect of Glassouffle and targeted his Hootcake to protect it from Burden’s Spell Card. Burden Tributed Glassouffle and Tiarafraise for Dogmatika Maximus. Then, Burden activated the effect of Maximus and sent Vallon, the Super Psy Skyblaster and The Duke of Demise to the Graveyard, and Powell sent Number 104: Masquerade and Number 106: Giant Hand.
Burden activated the effect Vallon and tried to destroy Powell’s face-down Dessert, but Powell Chained it and bounced Madolche Puddingcess Chocolat-a-la-Mode and Dogmatika Maximus to the hand, and Special Summoned a Madolche Teacher Glassouffle from his Extra Deck with Dessert. Powell activated Glassouffle’s effect when it was summoned and added back Maxx “C” and Vernusylph of the Thawing Mountains (thanks to the Chateau)!
Burden, realizing they had no other plays, conceded the first Duel!

Both Duelists reviewed their first Duel while accessing their Side Deck, discussing what plays could have been done differently.
Duel Two
Burden chose to start the second Duel.
Burden activated The Monarchs Masterplan, Powell Chained Herald of Green Light! He discarded Green Light and Madolche Puddingcess to negate the Masterplan. Burden Set 1 monster, and ended their turn!
Powell had Vernusylph of the Misting Seedlings, Twin Twisters, Madolche Magiliene, and drew Nibiru, the Primal Being, for his turn. He Normal Summoned Magiliene and used its effect to add Madolche Petingcessoeur. Powell then activated Misting Seedlings and discarded Petingcessoeur to add Madolche Anjelly from his Deck to his hand and Special Summoned the Petingcessoeur from the Graveyard. He activated Petincessoeur’s effect and Special Summoned Hootcake from the Deck!

Powell activated Hootcake and banished his Misting Seedlings to Special Summon Madolche Messengelato. He activated Messengelato’s effect and added Madolche Salon from his Deck to his hand, then activated the Continuous Spell. Powell then Xyz Summoned Madolche Teacher Glassouffle using Petincessoeur and Magiliene!
Using the additional Normal Summon from Madolche Salon, Powell Normal Summoned Madolche Anjelly and used its effect to Special Summon another Messegelato, which he activated to add Madolche Chateau.
Powell Xyz Summoned Madolche Queen Tiaramisu with both Messengelatos, then activated Tiaramisu and detached Messengelato and shuffled it back into the Deck along with Burden’s lone face-down monster. Powell then activated Madolche Chateau and shuffled everything else in the Graveyard back into the Deck. He activated Salon’s effect and Set Madolche Promenade from his Deck.
Powell used Tiaramisu to Xyz Summon Madolche Queen Tiarafraise and went into his Battle Phase! He attacked directly with Hootcake, Glassouffle, and Tiarafraise. Leaving Burden with just 600 LP! Powell then activated Glassouffle’s effect and detached Petincessoeur to make Tiarafraise unaffected by monster effects. He then activated Glassouffle’s second effect and added Herald of Green Light and Madolche Petingcessoeur back to his hand! Powell Set one card and ended his turn.
Burden activated The Monarchs Masterplan, but Powell negated it again with his Herald of Green Light! With that, Burden knew they wouldn’t be able to break through the board and offered the handshake!
Powell finishes Day 1 with a 6-1 record thanks to his Vernusylph Madolche Deck!
