YCS Columbus: Blazing Dominion Tech Update

Blazing Dominion introduced many powerful cards to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME, and Duelists are using several of those cards as tech choices this weekend. Here are some of the top tech cards that Duelists are using here at YCS Columbus!

Dominus Spark

Dominus Spark is the latest of the Dominus line of Trap Cards! Spark can be activated immediately from the hand, even on the opponent’s turn, if your opponent has activated a monster effect in the hand or Graveyard; it lets you banish an opponent’s monster, and then if you have no Traps in your Graveyard, your opponent can Special Summon a monster from their hand. Spark isn’t something that can be played in every Deck; if you activate it from the hand, you cannot activate the effects of EARTH, WATER, FIRE, or WIND monsters for the rest of the Duel, so it’s best used in Decks that play a plethora of LIGHT and DARK monsters. Maliss and Mitsurugi are popular strategies that are able to play Dominus Spark alongside Dominus Impulse, since their strategies rely heavily on DARK monsters. Spark can be a powerful tech option in the DoomZ matchup, getting rid of monsters like DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio before your opponent can destroy it with DoomZ Raiders or DoomZ Change. It can also be useful against Branded, dealing with Fallen of Albaz and preventing your opponent from using your monsters as Fusion Material.

Solemn Accusation

The newest Counter Trap Card in the line of Solemn cards, Solemn Accusation is a very powerful piece of disruption in certain matchups. On one hand, you can pay 1500 Life Points to negate the activation of a Spell/Trap Card and destroy it, then prevent both players from activating a card with the same name for the rest of this turn. With some cards that negate the activation of a Spell or Trap Card, your opponent may have multiple copies of the same card in their hand; Solemn Accusation ensures that if your opponent has multiple copies of Mitsurugi PrayersDoomZ Change, or Branded in High Spirits in their hand, they can’t simply activate another one later on in the turn. On the other hand, you can choose to pay 3000 Life Points, and then not only will the activation of the card be negated, but it will banish the card, as well as all copies of that card from your opponent’s hand and Deck! This can be extremely devastating for Decks that rely heavily on a particular Spell or Trap Card, such as Mystical Space Typhoon in Radiant Typhoon, Kewl Tune Synchro in Kewl Tune, or Mitsurugi Ritual in Mitsurugi!

Fydraulis Harmonia

The ability to activate the effects of monsters in hand in order to disrupt your opponent’s plays is incredibly powerful, and the newest way to do so is with Fydraulis Harmonia! Harmonia is a monster that can activate its effect if your opponent activates the effect of a monster on the field, and it allows you to reveal Synchro monsters from your Extra Deck to Special Summon Harmonia, send a Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard, and destroy a monster that your opponent controls. As noted with Dominus Spark, the ability to get rid of certain monsters from your opponent’s side of the field can be very powerful, and Harmonia gives Synchro-based strategies an additional way to do so. However, Harmonia goes a step further by sending a Synchro monster from the Extra Deck directly to the Graveyard, granting additional ways to disrupt the opponent. Golden Cloud Beast – Malong allows you to return a face-up card your opponent controls to the hand, helping to deal with problematic monsters such as Mirrorjade the Iceblade DragonEngimaster Packbit can be sent to place an opponent’s monster to their Spell/Trap Zone as a Continuous Trap, another way to deal with monsters with effects that trigger when they are destroyed. Deep Sea Prima Donna is another option that is able to return banished cards back to the Deck, making it a strong answer to cards like Maliss <P> Dormouse and Ecclesia and the Dark Dragon!

These are just a few of the hottest new cards from Blazing Dominion making a splash this weekend at YCS Columbus!
