We’re in Round 11 of the Advanced Format Swiss Rounds here at YCS Columbus! In this Feature Match, we have two Duelists with 8-2 records: Clifford Colbert with his Kewl Tune Deck, and Joshua Koo with his DoomZ Deck. Both players have made it to Day 2, but a win this round is a must if they hope to make it into the Top 8. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Koo opened the first Duel with DoomZ Raiders, DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea, Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, and two copies of Forbidden Crown. 

Colbert won the die roll and chose to go first! He started by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Cue and activating its effect; Koo Chained the effect of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, but Colbert Chained Kewl Tune Synchro! Colbert searched for Kewl Tune Rotary then used Rotary and Cue to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, then resolved Cue’s effect to Special Summon Kewl Tune Reco from the Deck. Colbert banished DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” from the top of Koo’s Deck, and went to resolve the effects of Track Maker and Rotary. However, Koo knew that he would not be able to break through the board that Colbert was building, and conceded the first Duel. 

Duel 2

Koo chose to go first in the second Duel! He started by activating the effect of Dimension Shifter! He then Normal Summoned DoomZ VII Seven – Elara and activated its effect, Setting DoomZ Destruction to his backrow. Next, he activated the effect of DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea in hand, destroying Elara, Special Summoning Drastea, and equipping it with DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G”. He then activated DoomZ Change, destroying Power Patron DoomZ from the Deck and searching for DoomZ Raiders! Finally, he activated the effect of Drastea, using it to Xyz Summon DoomZ XII End – Drastrius, activated DoomZ Raiders, and ended his turn. 

Colbert began his turn by activating Harpie’s Feather Duster, destroying Koo’s DoomZ Destruction and Raiders! Koo activated the effect of Destruction, equipping Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron from the Deck to Drastrius as an Equip Spell Card. Next, Colbert Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Reco, but didn’t activate its effect! Finally, he Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Koo drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring for turn. In the Draw Phase, he activated the effect of Drastrius, destroying the equipped Jupredo, then activated Jupredo’s effect to search for DoomZ Change. In the Main Phase, Koo activated Change; Colbert Chained Kewl Tune Synchro, but Koo followed up with the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Koo destroyed DoomZ V Five – Amalthe from the Deck and activated its effect to search for DoomZ VII Seven – Elara, and on resolution, Colbert activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird. Koo Normal Summoned DoomZ VII Seven – Elara and activated its effect, but it was met by Colbert’s Effect Veiler. Koo used Drastrius to attack and destroy Reco, attacked directly with Elara, then ended his turn.  

Colbert drew a card for turn, but was unable to push through Koo’s Drastrius, and conceded. We’re moving on to game 3!

Duel 3

Koo opened the third Duel with Mulcharmy Fuwalos, DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea, Forbidden Crown, Called by the Grave, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. 

Colbert chose to go first in the final Duel! He started by activating Kewl Tune Synchro, but Koo Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Colbert ended his turn without making any other plays.

Koo drew DoomZ V Five – Amalthe for turn! He Normal Summoned DoomZ V Five – Amalthe and searched for Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron. He then activated Jupredo in the Pendulum Scale, then activated the effect of Drastea in hand, destroying Jupredo to Special Summon Drastea and equip it with DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G” from the Deck. Next, he activated the effect of the destroyed Jupredo, searching for DoomZ Raiders. He activated Raiders, then used its effect to destroy Amalthe and Special Summon Elara. However, when he activated Elara’s effect, Colbert Chained the effect of Fydraulis Harmonia! Koo Chained the effect of Drastea as Chain Link 3, using it to bring out DoomZ XII End – Drastrius, as Colbert Special Summoned Harmonia, sent Golden Cloud Beast – Malong from the Extra Deck to the Graveyard, and destroyed Koo’s Elara. Koo then Set DoomZ Change to his backrow. In the following chain, Koo activated the effect of DoomZ XII End – Drastrius to equip Colbert’s Harmonia to Drastrius as an Equip Spell Card, as Colbert used Malong’s effect to return Raiders to Koo’s hand. 

Next, Koo activated DoomZ Change, then Chained the effect of Drastrius to destroy Change. Koo added DoomZ VII Seven – Elara back to hand, then Special Summoned it, then destroyed Power Patron DoomZ from the Deck and searched for DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.”. He equipped DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” to Elara, then used Elara’s effect to Xyz Summon Doomz Break – Diactorus. He used Diactorus to Xyz Summon DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio and search for DoomZ Destruction, then proceeded to the Battle Phase! He attacked directly with Drastrius and Graflareio, Set 3 cards to his backrow, and ended his turn. 

Colbert started his turn by activating Pot of Prosperity, but Koo Chained DoomZ Destruction, equipping it to Drastrius and preventing Colbert from resolving Prosperity! Colbert was out of plays and conceded.

With the victory, Koo’s record improves to 9-2, and keeps alive his hopes of making it to the Top 8 at YCS Columbus!
