Genesys Format Top 4 Feature Match: Trayton Tragesser vs. William Wesley

Trayton Tragesser from Terre Haute, Indiana and William Wesley from Liberty, Kentucky made it to the Top 4 of the Genesys Format Main Event here at YCS Columbus! Tragesser is using one of the more popular Genesys Decks of the weekend, which is built around Red Dragon Archfiend and utilizes new support from Blazing Dominion. Wesley is using a Radiant Typhoon Deck, built around the classic Mystical Space Typhoon Spell Card. Radiant Typhoon Decks have experienced recent success in Genesys tournaments, and Wesley is hoping to replicate the recent success of the Deck. Now, Tragesser and Wesley are Dueling against one another in a Match that will determine which Duelist advances to the Finals of the Genesys Format Main Event at YCS Columbus. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Wesley started off the Match by Special Summoning Radiant Typhoon Eldam and using its effect to add Radiant Typhoon Swen from his Deck to his hand.

He Special Summoned Swen and activated its effect, prompting Tragesser to Chain the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Wesley resolved his Swen’s effect and added Radiant Typhoon Vision from his Deck to his hand with its effect. He activated Vision to draw 2 cards and discard Radiant Typhoon Vauroon, the Vibrant Vortex from his hand. In a new Chain, he activated the effect of Radiant Typhoon Krosea to Special Summon it. He activated its effect on the field to add Radiant Typhoon Mandate and Mystical Space Typhoon from his Deck to his hand. He combined Swen with Eldam to Xyz Summon Totem Bird, allowing Tragesser to draw a card from the effect of Fuwalos. Next, He Set 3 cards to his back row and ended his turn.

Tragesser drew Skull Meister and added it to his hand Darkness Resonator, Vision Resonator, King’s Resonator, Cosmic Cyclone, and Nibiru, the Primal Being. He activated the effect of Darkness Resonator in his hand by revealing Red Dragon Archfiend from his Extra Deck. He used its on-field effect to gain an extra Normal Summon for a Resonator. He Normal Summoned Skull Meister next, and Wesley flipped Final Bringer of the End Times to try to destroy Krosea and the Resonator. Resonator was destroyed, but the Krosea survived due to its effect because Tragesser had no Spells or Traps on his field. In a new Chain, Wesley activated the effect of Radiant Typhoon Fonix, the Great Flame in his hand to Special Summon it. Tragesser Normal Summoned Vision Resonator next. Wesley activated Mystical Space Typhoon targeting his own face-down card for destruction, and Tragesser conceded, knowing that Wesley would Chain Fonix’s effect to return both of Tragesser’s monsters to his Deck.

William Wesley takes a decisive win in the first Duel of the Match!

Duel Two

Tragesser opened up Duel 2 with Resonator Call, Gravity Collapse, Bone Archfiend, Power Vice Dragon, and Nibiru, the Primal Being.

He activated the effect of Power Vice Dragon to Special Summon it from his hand and then used its on-field effect to add Darkness Resonator from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned it by revealing Red Dragon Archfiend from his Extra Deck and then used its on-field effect to gain a Normal Summon for a Resonator. He then Tuned his 2 monsters together to Synchro Summon The Crimson King and used its effect to add Crimson Gaia from his Deck to his hand. He activated Resonator Call next, and used its effect to add Soul Resonator from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and used its effect to add Synkron Resonator from his Deck to his hand. He used its effect to add Chaos Dragon Levianeer from his Deck to his hand. He activated Crimson Call next, returning Vision Resonator from his Graveyard to his hand. He Special Summoned it and then Tuned it with Crimson Blade Dragon to Synchro Summon Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss. Next, he banished 3 DARK monsters from his Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Dragon Levianeer from his hand. He activated its effect to return a random card from Wesley’s hand to his Deck. Tragesser activated Crimson Gaia next and activated its effect. Wesley Chained the effect of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit from his hand to try to destroy it, but Tragesser banished Vision Resonator from his Graveyard to protect Crimson Gaia from destruction. He resolved the effect of Crimson Gaia and added Red Zone from his Deck to his hand. He Set Red Zone and Gravity Collapse before ending his turn.

Wesley drew a card and then activated Mystical Space Typhoon in the Draw Phase to destroy Tragesser’s face-down Red Zone. Next, he Tributed Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss from Tragesser’s field to Special Summon Gadarla, the Mystery Dust Kaiju to Tragesser’s field, and Tragesser Chained Gravity Collapse to negate the Summon by sending The Crimson King from his field to his Graveyard, preventing Wesley from Summoning any monsters for the rest of the turn. Wesley Set a monster and then ended his turn.

Tragesser drew a card and then used Crimson Gaia’s effect to add Soul Resonator from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and used its effect to add Darkness Resonator from his Deck to his hand. He sent Crimson Gaia to the Graveyard to Special Summon Bone Archfiend from the Graveyard, and then Wesley conceded.

Tragesser used his Meghala’s effect in a new Chain to Special Summon Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Vibrant Vortex from his Deck in Defense Position. Tragesser activated Crimson Gaia next, and activated its effect. Wesley Chained the effect of Final Bringer of the End Times to destroy Crimson Gaia and his own Swen.
