North America WCQ – Dragon Duel Round 7 Feature Match: Aiden Tiemann vs. Martin Wu
Last year, at this very same event, we saw Texas Duelist Aiden Tiemann win the Dragon Duel WCQ! He’s back for a repeat performance, and he’s doing great so far with his True Draco Deck. He’s against Martin Wu, from Toronto, using a Zoodiac Deck.
Duel 1
Tiemann won the dice roll and played first. He played Baobaboon, and put a card on the bottom of his Deck. He played Zoodiac Barrage, and lost it to Wu’s Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit.
Wu had a starting hand of 2 My Body as a Shield, Zoodiac Whiptail, Torrential Tribute, and Zoodiac Barrage. He played his own Barrage, and had it destroy itself to Special Summon Zoodiac Ramram. He used it to play Zoodiac Hammerkong, and that to play Zoodiac Broadbull. Broadbull’s effect put Zoodiac Ratpier in his hand. He Normal Summoned it, and had it send Zoodiac Combo to the Graveyard. He used Broadbull to play Zoodiac Chakanine, and detached Ramram from it for its effect, and Special Summoned the Ramram. Wu used Ratpier to Xyz Summon Zoodiac Tigermortar, and had it attach Ratpier to Chakanine. He then used Chakanine detaching Ratpier to Special Summon the same Ratpier. Chakanine was then used to play Zoodiac Drident, and he Special Summoned his second Ratpier. He used the two Ratpier to play Tornado Dragon, and Set Torrential and both copies of My Body as a Shield.
Tiemann sent his Baobaboon to attack Tornado Dragon. When it was destroyed, he got 2 more Baobaboon in Defense Position and used each of their effects, drawing a total of two cards and putting two on the bottom of his Deck. in Main Phase 2, he Tributed a Baobaboon and True Draco Heritage for Master Peace, the True Dracoslayer, and Wu flipped Torrential Tribute! Tiemann Chained Master Peace’s effect to destroy one of the My Body as a Shield. Next, Tiemann played Zoodiac Barrage and had it destroy itself to Special Summon Ramram. He turned that into Broadbull, and used it to put Whiptail in his hand. Broadbull was then turned into Tigermortar, which attached Ramram to itself. Tigermortar was used to play Chakanine, and Tiemann attached Whiptail to it. He then detached the Whiptail with Chakanine’s effect, and Special Summoned it. He used Chakanine to play Drident in Defense Position, and passed.
Wu drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He had that, Whiptail, and a Set My Body as a Shield. He sent Whiptail to destroy Drident in battle, and when Tiemann used Drident’s effect Wu flipped My Body as a Shield. In Main Phase 2, Wu used Whiptail to play Zoodiac Boarbow, then used that for Broadbull. It activated its effect, and Tiemann used Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy it! Wu still added Zoodiac Thoroughblade to his hand, but had no other plays. He passed with an open field.
Tiemann used his Whiptail to play Boarbow and Broadbull, and Broadbull was negated by Wu’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Broadbull was upgraded into Drident, which attacked directly.
Wu drew another Thoroughblade. He Normal Summoned it, and used its effect to discard his other Thoroughblade and draw Pot of Desires! Tiemann used Drident to destroy Thoroughblade before it could do anything worse. Wu Set Pot of Desires.
Tiemann Set True King’s Return, then Tributed it and Drident for Master Peace! He attacked directly, then used Master Peace’s effect to destroy Pot of Desires.
Wu drew Fire Formation – Tenki. He activated it, and Tiemann destroyed it with Master Peace before it could do anything. With no cards and only 2750 Life Points, Wu conceded the first Duel!
Duel 2
Wu played first with a hand of My Body as a Shield, Book of Moon, Zoodiac Combo, Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju, and Imperial Order. He Set all his Spell & Trap Cards.
Tiemann played Fire Formation – Tenki, and Wu flipped Imperial Order. Tiemann Set one to his back row.
Wu drew his own Tenki – not very helpful at the moment. He Set it.
Tiemann passed.
Wu drew Solemn Warning. Imperial Order was beginning to take a heavy toll on his Life Points. He passed, unable to Set Warning since his back row was full.
Tiemann passed.
Wu drew Cosmic Cyclone and fell to 4500 Life Points.
Tiemann Normal Summoned Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, and passed. He didn’t want to discard it at the end of the turn, but wouldn’t be able to use its effect if he’d Set it. With full Life Points he was safe to make take the risk.
Wu drew Dimensional Barrier – still no usable monsters!
Tiemann Normal Summoned another Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit.
Wu drew Torrential Tribute.
Tiemann drew, and Wu dropped to 1000 Life Points! Tiemann Tribute Summoned Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju and attacked directly, wiping out Wu’s Life Points with just one attack!
A costly Imperial Order seals the Duel and the Match for Wu’s opponent! Aiden Tiemann is your winner, with True Draco!
