Round 11 Feature Match: Roland Fang vs. Benjamin Deeter
Roland Fang from New York City took 5th place at the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship in Tokyo, Japan in 2017. He has been practicing his Dueling ever since, determined to make it back to the World Championship one day. This weekend, he’s Dueling in the Ultimate Duelist Series Invitational – Summer 2018 for a shot at the championship belt. In this Round 11 Feature Match, he’s Dueling against Benjamin Deeter from Iowa. Fang is using a Sky Striker Gouki Deck, while Deeter is using the Phantom Knight Gouki Deck that we just saw take victory in our Round 10 Feature Match. With both Duelists currently holding 7-3 records, a victory in this round is essential to making the Top 8 cut. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Deeter Set The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine and flipped it, then Summoned Gouki Twistcobra.
He used both of his cards to Link Summon Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights, and then added Necro Gardna and Gouki Re-Match to his hand with the effects of Twistcobra and Isolde. He sent Divine Sword – Phoenix Blade to his Graveyard to activate Isolde’s effect, and lost out to Fang’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. But then Deeter activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Gouki Twistcobra! After a couple of plays, he Link Summoned Summon Sorceress, and used its effect to Special Summon The Phantom Knights of Ancient Cloak. A few plays later, he had Link Summoned Firewall Dragon. He continued a series of plays that expanded his field until, eventually, he had Extra Linked.
Fang, who had Instant Fusion, 2 copies of Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, and Gouki Twistcobra in his hand instantly conceded when Deeter Extra Linked, before even taking his first turn.
Duel Two
Fang opened up Duel 2 with Magical Mid-Breaker Field, Knightmare Corruptor Iblee, Called by the Grave, Living Fossil, and Infinite Impermanence.
He Set Called by the Grave and Infinite Impermanence before passing.
Deeter activated Emergency Teleport! He Special Summoned Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit from his Deck and then activated Instant Fusion to Special Summon Dragoness the Wicked Knight. He combined his 2 monsters to Xyz Summon M-X-Saber Invoker and then detached Dragoness the Wicked Knight to activate his Invoker’s effect and Special Summon Gouki Suprex from his Deck. He combined Invoker with Suprex to Link Summon Isolde and then activated the effects of Isolde and Invoker. Fang Chained Infinite Impermanence to negate the effect of Isolde and Chained Called by the Grave to banish Suprex and stop its effect too; but Deeter Normal Summoned Gouki Twistcobra next and then Linked it with Isolde to Link Summon another Isolde!
Fang immediately offered the handshake, unwilling to wait for Deeter to complete an Extra Link.
Benjamin Deeter advances with an 8-3 record using his Phantom Knight Gouki Deck!
