Round 9 Feature Match: Brandon Niemeyer vs. Garon Williams

August 26th, 2018

Welcome to Day 2 of the UDS Invitational – Summer 2018 in Kansas City, Missouri! Thirty-two Duelists have made it to today’s Swiss Rounds. After those four Swiss Rounds, the Top 8 Duelists will battle it out in three single-elimination rounds until the Ultimate Duelist is named. Brandon Niemeyer from Kansas City, Kansas is the highest-ranking True Draco Duelist at the end of Day 1. He currently holds a 6-2 record and a shot at a Top 8 finish. Now he’s Dueling against Mekk-Knight Invoked Duelist Garon Williams from Hampton Roads, Virginia, who also has a 6-2 record! Williams’s Deck is enhanced by the recent release of Shadows in Valhalla since he’s using one copy of Aleister the Invoker of Madness – a Secret Rare card from that new set – in his Extra Deck. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Niemeyer opened up Duel 1 with Amano-Iwato, Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster, Disciples of the True Dracophoenix, Card of Demise, and Waterfall of Dragon Souls. He Summoned Amano-Iwato and then activated Disciples. He used its effect to Tribute it and Summon Majesty Maiden. Then He Set Waterfall and activated Card of Demise to draw another Waterfall, Card of Demise, and True Draco Apocalypse. He Set them all face-down, and then in his End Phase, he discarded his hand of 0 cards with Card of Demise and then returned Amano-Iwato to his hand.

Williams entered his Battle Phase and then used Evenly Matched at the end of the Battle Phase. Niemeyer Chained the effect of Majesty Maiden and then Chained his Waterfall. He sent the Maiden to the Graveyard with Waterfall to draw 2 cards and then resolved his Maiden’s effect to add Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter to his hand. Evenly Matched resolved, and Niemeyer banished the Card of Demise and his Waterfalls, leaving Apocalypse face-down. Williams activated Magical Meltdown to get Aleister the Invoker and Summoned it. He activated its effect, and Niemeyer flipped True Draco Apocalypse. He used its effect to Tribute it for Dinomight Knight, and used Apocalypse’s effect to destroy Aleister. Williams activated Invocation, and when Niemeyer Chained the effect of his Dinomight Knight, Williams Chained PSY-Framegear Gamma! He negated the effect of Dinomight Knight and destroyed it, Special Summoned a PSY-Frame Driver from his Deck, and then resolved Invocation to banish Aleister and Dinomight Knight and Special Summon Invoked Cocytus in Defense Position. He then returned Aleister to his hand by returning Invocation to the Deck and banished his PSY-Frame monsters in the End Phase.

Niemeyer drew a card and Set 3 cards to his back row.

Williams Summoned Aleister and activated its effect; but Niemeyer used Infinite Impermanence to negate its effect. Williams attacked directly with Aleister and his Defense Position Cocytus to drop Niemeyer down to 5200 Life Points.

Niemeyer drew Disciples and activated it. He used its effect, and when Williams discarded Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Niemeyer Chained Called by the Grave to banish the Ghost Ogre and stop its effect. Niemeyer shuffled 3 of his True Draco cards from his Graveyard back into his Deck to draw Dragonic Diagram! He Summoned Amano-Iwato, activated Diagram, and then used Diagram’s effect to destroy Amano-Iwato and add Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior to his hand. He used Disciples to gain a Summon and Tributed the Disciples for Ignis Heat. He used the effect of the Disciples to destroy Magical Meltdown and then attacked Aleister to destroy it.

Williams Set a card to his back row across from Ignis Heat and then Special Summoned Mekk-Knight Purple Nightfall across from Ignis Heat and tried to use its effect. Niemeyer flipped The Monarchs Erupt to negate its effect.

Niemeyer attacked Purple Nightfall to destroy it.

Williams drew a card and passed.

Williams Special Summoned Purple Nightfall and attacked Ignis Heat to destroy it.

Niemeyer activated Terraforming and added Dragonic Diagram to his hand. He activated it, Set a card, and used the effect of Diagram, but lost out to another Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit! In the End Phase, The Monarchs Erupt was sent to the Graveyard, and Williams used Purple Nightfall’s effect. Niemeyer then flipped Rivalry of Warlords, preventing the banished Nightfall from returning to the field.

Williams attacked directly with Cocytus, dropping Niemeyer to 3300 Life Points.

Niemeyer drew and activated True Draco Heritage.

Williams activated Terraforming to add Magical Meltdown to his hand and then used Magical Meltdown to add Aleister to his hand. He attacked directly with Cocytus, dropping Niemeyer down to 1500 Life Points.

Niemeyer drew another Rivalry of Warlords and conceded, unable to survive another attack from Invoked Cocytus.

Garon Williams wins the first Duel of the Match thanks to Invoked Cocytus!

Duel Two

Niemeyer opened up Duel 2 with Amano-Iwato, Card of Demise, Red Reboot, Skill Drain, and Disciples of the True Dracophoenix. He Summoned Amano-Iwato, Set Reboot, Skill Drain, and Disciples, and then activated Card of Demise to draw Ignis Heat, another Reboot, and Apocalypse. He flipped Disciples, used its effect to Tribute it for Ignis Heat, Set the Reboot and Apocalypse, and then entered his End Phase. He discarded his hand of 0 cards and then returned Amano-Iwato to his hand.

Williams activated Magical Meltdown to add Aleister to his hand and then activated Mind Control to target Ignis Heat. Niemeyer Chained the effect of Ignis Heat to activate True Draco Heritage from his Deck, and Williams took control of Ignis Heat. Williams Summoned Aleister and activated its effect; but Niemeyer Chained Skill Drain by paying 1000 Life Points! Williams used Aleister and Ignis Heat to Link Summon Aleister the Invoker of Madness and then activated Invocation, banishing Ignis Heat and Aleister from the Graveyards to Special Summon Invoked Purgatrio Linked to Aleister. He then returned his Invocation from his Graveyard to his Deck to return his banished Aleister to his hand. Aleister the Invoker of Madness attacked, and Niemeyer flipped Apocalypse and used its effect to destroy Heritage and halve the ATK of Williams’s monsters. Purgatrio attacked directly next, dropping Niemeyer down to 4950 Life Points. Williams activated Terraforming to add Magical Meltdown to his hand and then Set a card to his back row.

Niemeyer Tributed Apocalypse for Ignis Heat and then used the effect of the Tributed Apocalypse to destroy Purgatrio. He attacked the Invoker of Madness with Ignis Heat to destroy it and then passed his turn.

Williams flipped his face-down Infinite Impermanence, and Niemeyer Chained his face-down Red Reboot to flip it back face-down and let Williams Set Unending Nightmare from his Deck. Next, Williams activated Magical Meltdown to get Aleister from his Deck. He Summoned Aleister, then activated Invocation to banish Aleister from his field and send Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit from his hand to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Invoked Mechaba. He activated the effect of Invocation to return it to his Deck and return Aleister to his hand. He attacked Ignis Heat with Mechaba to destroy it and drop Niemeyer down to 4850 Life Points.

Niemeyer drew Rivalry of Warlords, but with just that and Amano-Iwato in his hand, he was in trouble. He Set both cards and passed. Williams activated Unending Nightmare in the End Phase, and Niemeyer Chained Wiretap to shuffle it back into the Deck.

Williams drew a card and Niemeyer flipped Rivalry. Williams attacked the face-down Amano-Iwato to destroy it with Mechaba.

Niemeyer drew Infinite Impermanence and Set it.

Williams attacked directly with Mechaba.

Niemeyer drew Rivalry and conceded, unable to stave off another direct attack from Mechaba.

Garon Williams advances with a 7-2 record using his Mekk-Knight Invoked Deck!
