Welcome to Round 7! We’re at Table 21 and if you can believe it, a Kozmo Deck is at the top tables in the year 2019. Bryan Rojas from Yakima, Washington is doing well with the strategy in today’s tournament, coming into Round 7 with a strong record taking on Corey Nakata from Stockton, California with Sky Striker. How does Kozmo line up against newer strategies?  We’re gonna find out! It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Rojas won the roll and elected to go first. He started with a hand of Kozmo Farmgirl, 2 copies of Back to the Front, Kozmo Sliprider and Kozmotown. He activated Kozmotown, then used the effect to shuffle Farmgirl and Sliprider into the Deck to draw another Kozmotown and a Kozmo Strawman. He Set Strawman and Back to the Front and passed.

Nakata activated Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero, Set a card and used the Field’s effect, revealing another Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero, Infinite Impermanence and Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. He added the Field Spell to his hand and sent the Set Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster from the field to the Graveyard. He activated Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to make a Sky Striker Ace Token then used it to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. Sky Striker Ace – Hayate attacked directly and Nakata sent Sky Striker Ace – Raye to the Graveyard with Sky Striker Ace – Hayate’s effect. In Main Phase 2, Nakata activated Pot of Desires, banishing 10 to draw 2. Sky Striker Ace – Hayate turned into Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku whose End Phase effect added Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand.

Rojas drew Trap Trick for turn. He Set it and passed.

Nakata activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! adding Sky Striker Mech – Jamming Waves! from his Deck to his hand and drawing a card. He used it to destroy Rojas’s Set Back to the Front and Kozmo Strawman. Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku swapped out for Sky Striker Ace – Kagari whose effect got back Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! which was activated to add Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole from Deck to hand and draw a card. Upstart Goblin was next, followed by a Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye. Raye attacked directly followed by Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. In Main Phase 2, Nakata used the Field Spell to add Engage off the top and send Sky Striker Ace – Raye to the Graveyard. Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! was used to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor and draw a card. Nakata Set 4 to the back and passed.

Rojas drew Emergency Teleport for turn. He Set Back to the Front and in the End Phase activated Emergency Teleport to Special Summon Kozmo Tincan. He used its effect, revealing Kozmo Dark Destroyer, Kozmo Dark Eclipser and Kozmo Sliprider. Nakata randomly selected Kozmo Dark Eclipser to add to his hand, the other monsters went to the Graveyard.

Nakata used Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to send Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero to the Graveyard. Then he activated Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to negate and steal Kozmo Tincan. After that resolved, Rojas activated Back to the Front to Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer from the Graveyard. (Nakata tried to activate Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon to banish the targeted Kozmo Dark Destroyer but because he controlled Kozmo Tincan in a Main Monster Zone at the time he couldn’t activate Shark Cannon).  Kozmo Dark Destroyer’s effect destroyed Sky Striker Ace – Kagari, then Sky Striker Ace – Raye came out of the Graveyard. Rojas chained Trap Trick to Raye’s Special Summon effect to banish Kozmojo from the Deck and set another one from the Deck. When Sky Striker Ace – Raye was Summoned, Kozmojo was activated, destroying Kozmo Dark Destroyer and banishing Sky Striker Ace – Raye from the field. Kozmo Dark Destroyer’s effect Special Summoned Kozmo Sliprider from the Deck. Its effect destroyed Nakata’s Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole. Nakata Normal Summoned Effect Veiler and used it and Kozmo Tincan to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix. Nakata then activated Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor on Sliprider and Chained Shark Cannon on the Sliprider in Rojas’s Graveyard and that was enough for a concession.

Duel 2

Rojas elected to go first. He started with a hand of Kozmo Landwalker, Kozmo Dark Eclipser, Kozmo Dark Planet, Kozmo Farmgirl and Kozmo Tincan. He Special Summoned Dark Planet by banishing Kozmo Dark Eclipser and Kozmo Landwalker from his hand. (Because Kozmo Dark Planet negates Spell Cards, Nakata will have to deal with Kozmo Dark Planet first and foremost.)  Rojas Normal Summoned Kozmo Tincan and In the End Phase, he activated Kozmo Tincan’s effect. Nakata chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit and Rojas chained Kozmo Tincan’s other effect, banishing it to Special Summon Kozmo Farmgirl from his hand. He resolved Kozmo Tincan, revealing Kozmo Dark Destroyer, Kozmo Forerunner and Kozmo Sliprider from the Deck. Kozmo Dark Destroyer was added to Rojas’s hand, the other two went to the Graveyard.

Nakata activated Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor on Farmgirl, Rojas chained Kozmo Dark Planet to negate it, then Nakata chained another Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy Dark Planet! Rojas used Dark’s Planet’s Graveyard effect, banishing it to add Kozmo Dark Destroyer from his Deck to hand. Nakata then activated Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion, then sent it back to the Deck to draw a card. Pot of Desires was next, banishing 10 to draw 2 more. He Set a card and passed.

Rojas drew Kozmo Farmgirl which he Normal Summoned. He attacked with one of his Farmgirls, used its effect, paying 500 to add Kozmoll Wickedwitch from his Deck to his hand. He attacked with the second Farmgirl and Nakata conceded.

Duel 3

Nakata elected for Rojas to go first. Rojas started with Kozmotown, activating it then using the effect to send Kozmo Soartroopers and Kozmo Dark Eclipser back to the Deck to draw Farmgirl and Kozmoll Dark Lady. He Normal Summoned Farmgirl, banished it to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Eclipser from his hand, then used Kozmotown to add the banished Farmgirl back to hand.

Nakata Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye and swapped her out for Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. Hayate attacked directly for 1500 and her effect dumped Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero from his Deck to his hand. In Main Phase 2, he Set 3 to the back and swapped Sky Striker Ace – Hayate for Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. In the End Phase, Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku’s effect added Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand.

Rojas drew Kozmojo for turn. He used Kozmotown to send Kozmo Strawman and Kozmoll Dark Lady, drawing Kozmo Dark Eclipser and Allure of Darkness. He activated Allure of Darkness, drawing Back to the Front and One for One. He banished Kozmo Dark Eclipser and added it back to his hand with Kozmotown. He Normal Summoned Kozmo Farmgirl. Kozmo Dark Eclipser attacked and destroyed Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. Sky Striker Ace – Raye was Special Summoned out of the Graveyard in Defense Position. In Main Phase 2, Rojas activated One for One, discarding Kozmo Dark Eclipser to Special Summon Kozmo Tincan from the Deck in Defense Position. He Set Kozmojo and Back to the Front. In the End Phase, Rojas activated Kozmo Tincan’s effect, Nakata chained Sky Striker Ace – Raye’s effect, Tributing it then chained his Set Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to negate Kozmo Tincan. Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku came out from Raye’s effect and in the same End Phase, Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku’s effect added another Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Deck to his hand. Rojas was at 4800 LP to Nakata’s 8000 LP.

Nakata activated Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon to banish Kozmo Dark Eclipser but Rojas chained Back to the Front to Special Summon it to his field instead. Nakata activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, adding Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to his hand and drawing a card. He activated it, then activated the second Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, adding Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! from his Deck to his hand and drawing a card. After that chain, Rojas activated Kozmojo, destroying Kozmo Dark Eclipser and banishing Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole. Dark Eclipser’s Graveyard effect banished itself to add Kozmo Dark Destroyer from his Deck to his hand. Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! came down next, targeting Kozmo Tincan which Rojas chained, banishing it to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer form his hand  Kozmo Dark Destroyer’s effect destroyed his own Kozmo Dark Eclipser which was banished form the Graveyard to add another Kozmo Dark Destroyer from his Deck to his hand. He still had a Farmgirl on the field that could tag into Dark Destroyer if needed. Nakata swapped his Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku into a Sky Striker Ace – Kagari whose effect got back Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! which was activated for the third time this turn to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from his Deck to his hand and draw a card. Kagari attacked into Farmgirl which was banished to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Destroyer from Rojas’s hand. In Main Phase 2, Sky Striker Ace – Kagari swapped out for Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. Nakata Set 2 to the back and in the End Phase, Nakata used Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku’s effect to add Sky Striker Mecharmory – Hercules Base from his Deck to his hand.

Rojas drew Emergency Teleport. He used Kozmotown’s effect to add Kozmo Dark Destroyer from his banished monsters back to his hand. He then activated Emergency Teleport, Special Summoning Strawman from the Deck. Strawman’s effect tried to Special Summon Kozmo Dark Eclipser but Nakata chained There Can Be Only One. Rojas sent a Kozmo Dark Destroyer to the Graveyard to satisfy the effect. In the Battle Phase, Rojas’s Kozmo Dark Destroyer attacked over Shizuku, and Sky Striker Ace – Raye came out of the Graveyard. In the End Phase, Sky Striker Ace – Raye swapped out for Sky Striker Ace – Hayate.

Nakata attacked directly with Sky Striker Ace – Hayate, leaving Rojas at 1900 LP to Nakata’s 5700 LP with 3 minutes left in the match.

Rojas drew Kozmo Dark Planet. He used Kozmotown to add a banished Kozmo Kozmo Tincan back to his hand, then used Kozmotown to shuffle all three of his cards back into the Deck for three new ones: Kozmo Tincan, Kozmo Sliprider and Kozmo Dark Eclipser. With Nakata’s There Can Be Only One active, Rojas’s options were limited. Kozmo Dark Destroyer attacked into Sky Striker Ace – Hayate which Nakata protected with his Set Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster.

Nakata drew, used Sky Striker Mech – Jamming Waves! on his Set Sky Striker Mecharmory – Hercules Base and also destroyed Rojas’s Kozmo Strawman. Hercules Base’s Graveyard effect sent 3 Sky Striker Extra Deck monsters from the Graveyard back to the Extra Deck.

Rojas drew for turn, and in the Main Phase, time was called. Rojas has no way to change Life Points and extended the handshake.

Nakata takes the win with Sky Striker against Kozmo!
