Round 9 Feature Match: Randy Moreno vs. Abraham King

August 25th, 2019

Welcome to Day 2!  We’re playing 2 rounds of Swiss before cutting to the Top 32 Single Elimination playoff!  At Table 4, we’re looking at Abraham King from Tigard, Oregon with Nekroz backed by Impcantations taking on Randy Moreno from Laguna Hills, California with Lunalight Orcust.  It’s been a while since we’ve seen Nekroz in action, and the Impcantation monsters give the strategy new life!  Meanwhile, Lunalight Orcust is a new twist on the Orcust strategy.  Lunalight Kaleido Chick, Lunalight Yellow Martin and Lunalight Tiger’s effects act as combo starters for the Orcust strategy.  We haven’t seen it in action yet so this should be a good match!  It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Moreno won the roll and elected to go first.  He started with Foolish Burial Goods, sending Luna Light Perfume from the Deck to the Graveyard.  He banished it from the Graveyard, discarded Lunalight Emerald Bird to add Lunalight Kaleido Chick.  He Normal Summoned Lunalight Kaleido Chick, activated its effect, sending LL Yellow Martin from the Deck to the Graveyard to make KC’s name Yellow Martin.  He activated Lunalight Tiger as a Pendulum, then used the Pendulum Effect to Special Summon Yellow Martin form the Graveyard.  Next, he used the 2 monsters to Xyz Summon Raidraptor – Force Trix.  He detached a material to add Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite from his Deck to his hand.  He used Lunalight Yellow Martin’s effect in his Graveyard, bouncing Tiger to Special Summon Yellow Martin from the Graveyard.  He used Force Trix and Yellow Martin to Link Summon PSY-Framelord Lambda.  He activated Tiger from his hand once again, then used the effect to Special Summon Lunalight Kaleido Chick from the Graveyard.  He used Lunalight Kaleido Chick’s effect again, sending another Yellow Martin from the Deck to the Graveyard.  He activated Foolish Burial, sending Orcust Harp Horror from the Deck to the Graveyard.  He banished Orcust Harp Horror from the Graveyard to Special Summon Orcust Cymbal Skeleton from the Deck.  He sent Orcust Harp Horror and the Lunalight Monster to Link Summon Galatea, the Orcust Automaton.  Galatea’s effect to put Orcust Harp Horror back into the Deck to Set Orcust Crescendo from the Deck.  He passed there.

King had a hand of Pot of Extravagance, Reinforcement of the Army, Nekroz of Valkyrus, Nekroz of Brionac and Impcantation Candoll and drew Preparation of Rights.  He activated Pot of Extravagance, banishing 6 cards from the Extra Deck to draw Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands and Nekroz of Trishula.  King Normal Summoned Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands and used its effect to add Nekroz Cycle from his Deck to his hand.  He activated Nekroz of Brionac, discarding it to add Shurit, Strategist of the Nekroz from his Deck to his hand.  He then activated Impcantation Candoll’s effect, revealing Nekroz Cycle to Special Summon it from his hand and Impcantation Talismandra from the Deck.  He used Talismandra’s effect to add Nekroz of Unicore form his Deck to his hand.  He used Cycle, Tributing Shurit to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Trishula!  He used Trishula’s effect and chained Shurit’s effect from the Graveyard, and Moreno activated Orcust Crescendo to negate and banish Shurit.  Trishula resolved to banish 3 of Moreno’s card.  Next, King activated Reinforcement of the Army to add Nekroz of Clausolas, which was discarded to add Nekroz Mirror form his Deck to his hand, which was activated, Tributing Impcantation Candoll and Manju to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Valkyrus from his hand.  In the Battle Phase, Trish attacked over Lambda, then Valkyrus attacked over Galatea, the Orcust Automaton.  King activated Preparation of Rights, adding Impcantation Chalislime and added back Nekroz Cycle from the Graveyard.  He discarded Nekroz of Unicore to add back Valkyrus.  He revealed Chalislime, discarded Impcantation Candoll to Special Summon Impcantation Penciplume from his Deck, using Penciplume’s effect to add the Unicore in the Graveyard back to his hand.  In the End Phase, Chalislime’s effect made King lose 2500 LP since he didn’t Ritual Summon after resolving Chalislime’s effect.

Moreno used Orcust Crescendo’s effect in the Graveyard, but after looking through his Deck, opted to concede the Duel.

Duel 2

Moreno elected to go first.  He activated Fire Formation – Tenki, using its effect to add Lunalight Kaleido Chick from his Deck to his hand.  He Normal Summoned it to send Lunalight Yellow Martin from his Deck to his hand, then activated Lunalight Tiger into the Pendulum Zone.  He used Lunalight Yellow Martin’s effect in the Graveyard to bounce Tiger to Special Summon Yellow Martin.   He then Xyz Summoned Raidraptor – Force Trix, using its effect to add Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite from his Deck to his hand.  He then activated Tiger again, used it effect to Special Summon Yellow Martin, then used Yellow Martin and Force Trix to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix then turned it into Knightmare Mermaid.  He used the effect discarding Blackwing – Zephyros the Elite but King negated it with Infinite Impermanence!  Moreno then activated Tiger, then activated Danger! Mothman!!  King hit Danger! Chupacabra! instead!  Danger! Mothman! was Special Summoned and Moreno drew a card.  Lunalight Tiger’s effect brought back Lunalight Kaleido Chick whose effect sent Lunalight Yellow Martin.  Zephyros’s effect bounced Tiger to Special Summon the Blackwing.  He sent 3 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Curious the Lightsworn Dominion!  He sent Summon Limit from the Deck to the Graveyard with Curious’s effect.  The other effect of Curious the Lightsworn Dominion sent the top 3 to the Graveyard.  Tiger came down again, whose effect brought back Lunalight Kaleido Chick, which went to the Graveyard with Curious the Lightsworn Dominion to Link Summon Knightmare Gryphon!  Its effect Set Summon Limit from the Graveyard and drew a card since it was co-linked to Knightmare Mermaid.  He activated Danger!? Jackelope? from the hand, King hitting the Danger!? Jackelope?.  King used its effect to Special Summon Danger! Chupacabra! from the Deck.  He passed.

King drew a card and Moreno activated Summon Limit straight away.  King activated Pot of Extravagance, banishing 6 cards from the Extra Deck to draw 2 cards.  He Normal Summoned Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands and used its effect to add Nekroz of Unicore from his Deck to his hand.  He activated Nekroz Kaleidoscope, sending Elder Entity N’Tiss from his Extra Deck to the Graveyard to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Unicore.  N’Tss’s effect destroyed Summon Limit and King was free to continue unabated by Summon Limit’s effect (and without worrying about Knightmare Gryphon’s effect since Unicore’s effect negates the effect of any monster Special Summoned from the Extra Deck).  King activated Preparation of Rights, adding Nekroz of Brionac from Deck to hand and Nekroz Kaleidoscope from Graveyard to hand.  He activated Impcantation Penciplume from his hand, revealing Impcantation Chalislime from his hand and Special Summoning Impcantation Talismandra form the Deck.  Talismandra’s effect added Nekroz of Trishula from Deck to hand.  He revealed the Chalislime in his hand to activate its effect, Special Summon Impcantation Candoll from the Deck.  Candoll’s effect added Impcantation Inception from his Deck to his hand, which was activated, Tributing Penciplume and Talismandra to Ritual Summon Nekroz of Trishula! (Impcantation Inception can Ritual Summon any Ritual Monster, but the Tributes have to be Impcantation Monsters.)  He banished 3 of Moreno’s cards with its effect.  King cleared Moreno’s field in the Battle Phase and left Moreno at 6100 LP.  In Main Phase 2, King activated Nekroz of Brionac, discarding it to add Nekroz of Valkyrus from Deck to hand.

Moreno activated Foolish Burial Goods, but there was no out.  He extended the handshake!

Abraham King takes the win, getting past a turn 1 Summon Limit and Knightmare Gryphon in the second Duel.
