Welcome to Round 6! In this Round, we’re looking at Johnny Li from Texas, playing True Draco, facing off against Ambrose Andrew Jones Jr. from Kansas City, Missouri, playing Sky Striker but with Invoked! Both players have 4-1 records, but at the UDS Invitational, records can be more forgiving since more Rounds are played than at usual Tier 3 events. Who will keep their 4-1 record?  It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Li won the roll and elected for Jones to go first. He started with Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Li 1000 LP. He Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye and Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He went straight to the End Phase and added Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to his hand.

Li’s opening hand was Disciples of the True Dracophoenix, There Can Be Only One, True Draco Heritage, Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster, and True Draco Apocalypse. He drew Dragonic Diagram for turn. He Set True Draco Apocalypse then Tributed it to Tribute Summon Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster. He used True Draco Apocalypse’s effect to destroy Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku (Jones did not bring back Raye). Li Set Disciples of the True Dracophoenix then activated Dragonic Diagram and used its effect to destroy Disciples of the True Dracophoenix and add Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior from his Deck to his hand. He activated True Draco Heritage and used its effect to draw another Dragonic Diagram and There Can Be Only One. He used Heritage’s effect to Tribute it for Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior. He attacked with both monsters to leave Jones at 2700. he Set There Can Be Only One and passed.

Jones activated Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole and Jones Chained Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster to add Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter from his Deck to his hand. Jones then activated Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero and used Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior’s effect to add Disciples of the True Dracophoenix from his Deck to his hand. Jones then Set a card then activated the Field Spell to add Sky Striker Mecharmory – Hercules Base from his Deck to his hand and send the Set Invocation to the Graveyard. He then Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye then Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Hayate who attacked directly. Hayate’s effect sent Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon from the Deck to the Graveyard. In Main Phase 2 Jones activated Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! then Li Chained There Can Be Only One sending the targeting Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior, allowing him to dodge the 2^nd destruction effect. Jones then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! adding Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones from his Deck to his hand and drawing a card. He then used Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole’s effect to send Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku to the Graveyard. Jones then activated Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to make a Token then Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari which got back Engage from the Graveyard which was activated to add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from Jones’s Deck to his hand. Jones then activated Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to steal Li’s Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster and used both monsters to make Knightmare Phoenix whose effect let Jones discard Sky Striker Mech – Jamming Waves! to destroy Dragonic Diagram. He Set 1 then used Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole to Set Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor.

Li drew Crackdown. He activated Disciples of the True Dracophoenix. He used Disciple’s effect to send 3 True Draco / True King cards back from the Graveyard to the Deck and drew Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster. He activated the second Dragonic Diagram. Li activated the effect and Jones chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his hand to negate it. He Tributed There Can Be Only One from his field to Tribute Summon Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter. He then used Disciples of the True Dracophoenix’s effect to Tribute it for Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster. He used Disciple’s effect to destroy Jones’s Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole. Li attacked with Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter into Jones’s Knightmare Phoenix. Jones activated Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor on Dinomight and Li chained Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter’s effect to add True Draco Apocalypse from his Deck to his hand. Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster attacked and destroyed Knightmare Phoenix. In Main Phase 2 he Set all the cards in his hand and took back Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter in the End phase.

Jones activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and Li chained Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster to add Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior from his Deck to his hand. In a new Chain, Jones activated Reinforcement of the Army then Li chained Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter then Li chained Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor then Li True Draco Apocalypse, tributing Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter for Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior. Jones used the effect of Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero, targeting his Set. He added Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster to his hand and sent the Set Sky Striker Mecharmory – Hercules Base from his Deck to his hand. Hercules Base shuffled 3 cards from his Graveyard back to the Deck / Extra Deck. Jones then Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye and Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari whose effect got back Sky Striker Mech – Jamming Waves!. In a new chain Li activated Crackdown to steal Sky Striker Ace – Kagari then Jones chained Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster then Jones chained There Can Be Only One sending Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster to the Graveyard. Next, Jones Set a card then used Jamming Waves on it, destroying his Set Metalfoes Fusion and Li’s Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior. Next, Li used Metalfoes Fusion to shuffle it back in to Draw a card. Sky Striker Ace – Kagari attacked and Jones activated True King’s Return to have Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior block the attack. In Main Phase 2, Jones activated Mystic Mine over Area Zero. In the End Phase, Eagle Booster’s wore off and Sky Striker Ace – Kagari passed to Li’s field due to Crackdown’s effect.

Li used Dragonic Diagram to destroy Sky Striker Ace – Kagari (and Crackdown) to add Disciples of the True Dracophoenix from his Deck to his hand. He used Disciples of the True Dracophoenix to add 3 True Draco monsters back to the Deck and draw Waterfall of Dragon Souls. He Set it and passed.

Jones drew and conceded.

Duel 2

Jones elected to go first. He started with Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! which added Sky Striker Ace – Raye from his Deck to his hand. Next, he Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari to add back Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and activated it again to add Sky Striker Mech – Jamming Waves!, Sky Striker Ace – Kagari swapped out for Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He Set 2 to the back and in the End Phase, Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku’s effect let Jones add Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from his Deck to his hand.

Li drew Dragonic Diagram to add to his hand of Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster, True Draco Heritage, Disciples of the True Dracophoenix, and 2 copies of True Draco Apocalypse. He started with Disciples of the True Dracophoenix, then used its effect to Tribute it for Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster. Disciple’s effect popped one of Jones’s sets with Jones chained: Metaverse. Li Chained Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster’s effect to add Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior from his Deck to his hand. Li Set True Draco Apocalypse, then activated Dragonic Diagram, destroying the Set True Draco Apocalypse to add Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter from his Deck to his hand. True Draco Apocalypse’s effect destroyed Jones’s Shizuku and Jones used Sky Striker Ace – Raye’s effect to Special Summon Raye from the Graveyard. True Draco Heritage came down next, letting Li draw 2 cards. Next, he used True Draco Heritage’s effect to Tribute, Jones chained Sky Striker Ace – Raye, which brought out Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. Heritage resolved, Tributing it to Tribute Summon Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter. Heritage then popped Jones’s Set Sky Striker Mecharmory – Hercules Base. Li then activated Disciples of the True Dracophoenix to shuffle back cards and draw Crackdown. For his regular Normal Summon, he Tributed Disciples of the True Dracophoenix for Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior. “So you would’ve had game” remarked Jones. Li attacked with Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter into Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. Hayate ‘s effect sent Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster from Jones’s Deck to the Graveyard. Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior and Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster attacked directly, leaving Jones at 1400 LP. In Main Phase 2, Li Set Crackdown and True Draco Apocalypse and passed.

Jones activated Sky Striker Mech – Jamming Waves! targeting True Draco Apocalypse, Li chained Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior to add Disciples of the True Dracophoenix from his Deck to his hand. True Draco Apocalypse then Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter was destroyed by the second effect. Jones then activated Mind Control on Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior, Li chained Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster and Jones chained Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to negate and steal Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster. Jones then Normal Summoned Aleister the Invoker, and he used the effect to add Invocation from his Deck to his hand. Next, Jones used Aleister and Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior to Link Summon Aleister the Invoker of Madness. Jones then activated Invocation but Li chained Crackdown to steal Aleister the Invoker of Madness! Jones had Li banish the Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior from his Graveyard along with the Aleister the Invoker from Jones’s Graveyard to Fusion Summon Invoked Purgatrio. Purgatrio attacked and destroyed Li’s monster and Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster attacked directly. In Main Phase 2, both monsters were used to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix whose effect destroyed Li’s Dragonic Diagram. Next, Jones used Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero’s effect adding a card to his hand and sending Phoenix to the Graveyard. He then activated another Invocation, banishing Li’s Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster and his own Aleister from the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Invoked Raidjin.

Li activated Disciples of the True Dracophoenix and used its effect to draw. He then activated Dragonic Diagram, destroying Disciples of the True Dracophoenix to add True King’s Return from his Deck to his hand. He Set True King’s Return, Tributed it to Tribute Summon Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster. Return tried to destroy Raijin, Raijin’s effect chained to turn Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster face-down, then Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster’s effect added Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior from his Deck to his hand. Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster went face-down. Li Set Waterfall of the Dragon Souls and passed.

Jones Set a card then used the effect of Area Zero, revealing Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones, Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! and Reinforcement of the Army. He grabbed Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones and shuffled the rest back, sending Evenly Matched to the Graveyard. Invocation’s Graveyard effect let it go back to the Deck to add a banished Aleister to his hand. Jones used Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to make a Token which was used for Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. Jones then Normal Summoned Aleister the Invoker, whose effect got Invocation. Hayate swapped out for Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. Aleister the Invoker attacked into the face-down Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster. Li activated Waterfall, sending Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster to the Graveyard to draw 2 cards. Jones’s monsters attacked directly. In Main Phase 2, Jones activated Invocation, sending Aleister the Invoker and Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon Invoked Elysium!

Li drew True Draco Apocalypse for turn. He Set it and used Dragonic Diagram to pop it and add Disciples of the True Dracophoenix. True Draco Apocalypse’s effect destroyed Elysium and Disciples of the True Dracophoenix’s effect let Li shuffle 3 back to draw Solemn Judgment. Disciples was used to Tribute it for Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior. Disciple’s effect popped the last Set on Jones’s side which was chained: Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor. It was chained to steal Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior. He then activated True Draco Heritage and used its effect to draw 2 cards. He Set Solemn Judgment and Crackdown. In the End Phase, he took back Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior.

Facing two Set cards, Jones activated Galaxy Cyclone to destroy Li’s Crackdown. Li chained Majesty Maiden, the True Dracocaster to search for Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter. He then Normal Summoned Aleister the Invoker but Li activated the other Set card: Solemn Judgment! Aleister the Invoker’s Summon was negated! Jones extended the handshake!
