UDS Invitational Indianapolis, IN: Top 8 Feature Match – Mason Mattila vs. David Flores
Only 8 Duelists remain in the UDS Invitational – Summer 2019 here in Indianapolis, Indiana. Now, Mason Mattila from Wisconsin is facing off against David Flores from Texas in a Feature Match that will determine which Duelist advances to the Top 4. Mattila is using a Sky Striker Deck, and was ranked in first place at the end of the Swiss Rounds. Flores earned 9th place at the end of the Swiss Rounds with his Thunder Dragon Deck. One of these Duelists is about to be eliminated. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Mattila started off Duel 1 by activating Upstart Goblin to draw a card and increase Flores’s Life Points by 1000.
He activated Foolish Burial Goods next, sending Metalfoes Fusion from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! next, using its effect to add Sky Striker Ace – Raye from his Deck to his hand and draw a card. He Normal Summoned Raye and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. He used Kagari’s effect to try to return Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! from his Graveyard to his hand, but lost out to Flores’s Infinite Impermanence. Mattila shuffled Metalfoes Fusion from his Graveyard into his Deck to draw a card with its effect next, and then sent Kagari to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. Flores then Special Summoned Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay from his hand and used its effect to draw a card and return an Infinite Impermanence from his hand to his Deck. Mattila Set 5 cards to his back row before passing his turn. In the End Phase, he added Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from his Deck to his hand with Shizuku’s effect.
Flores drew a card and then had Batteryman Solar, Thunder Dragon Fusion, Thunder Dragon, Phantazmay, and Thunder Dragonroar in his hand. He discarded Thunder Dragon from his hand to get another copy from his Deck and then discarded that one to get the third copy. Next, he Set Batteryman Solar and Tributed it to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Colossus from his Extra Deck linked to Shizuku. He banished Colossus from his field and Dragonroar from his hand to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Titan linked to Shizuku and then used Dragonroar’s effect to Special Summon Thunder Dragondark to the field. Mattila flipped Metaverse after it was Summoned, allowing him to play Mystic Mine from his Deck. Flores sent his 3 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Chaos linked to Shizuku, and then used his Dragondark’s effect to add Thunder Dragonhawk from his Deck to his hand. He attacked Shizuku with his Black Luster Soldier, inflicting 1200 points of damage to Mattila. He used his Soldier’s effect to banish Mystic Mine and Mattila Special Summoned Raye to the field. Flores activated Thunder Dragon Fusion next, and shuffled 2 Thunder Dragons and a Colossus back into his Deck to Summon Thunder Dragon Titan. Then, he discarded a Thunder Dragon and Chained the effect of Titan, but lost out on Titan’s effect to Infinite Impermanence. Flores added 2 copies of Thunder Dragon from his Deck to his hand. In the End Phase, Mattila used the effect of his Raye to Tribute it and Special Summon Shizuku; but Flores used the effect of the Phantazmay in his hand to Special Summon it to the field, draw 2 cards, and put a Thunder Dragon from his hand on the bottom of his Deck. Mattila tried to use Shizuku’s effect, and Flores Chained a Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit that he had just drawn to destroy it. Mattila added Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Shizuku after Shizuku was destroyed.
Mattila activated Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Sky Striker Ace Token to the field and used the Token to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. He activated Widow Anchor targeting Titan, and Flores used the effect of Phantazmay by discarding Thunder Dragon to try to negate the activation of Widow Anchor. Flores Chained another Widow Anchor to target Phantazmay, negating its effect! He took control of Phantazmay and Titan with both Widow Anchors and then attacked Black Luster Soldier with Titan to destroy it. Phantazmay and Hayate attacked directly next, dropping Flores down to 4900 Life Points. Mattila used Hayate’s effect to send a Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero from his Deck to his Graveyard and then sent Phantazmay and Titan to the Graveyard to Link Summon Knightmare Phoenix in Main Phase 2. Next, he sent Hayate to the Graveyard to Link Summon Shizuku. He Set a card face-down and then added Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole from his Deck to his hand in the End Phase with Shizuku’s effect.
Flores drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and then banished Thunder Dragon Fusion from his Graveyard to add Thunder Dragonduo from his Deck to his hand. He Summoned Batteryman Solar and used its effect to send Thunder Dragonmatrix from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he banished Dragonmatrix and Dragondark from his Graveyard to Special Summon Thunder Dragonduo, and used the effects of his Dragonmatrix, Dragondark, and Batteryman Solar to add Thunder Dragonmatrix and Thunder Dragon Fusion to his hand, and Special Summon a Batteryman Token to the field. He used Solar and the Token to Link Summon Some Summer Summoner and then discarded Dragonhawk from his hand to Special Summon Dragonroar. He Tributed it to Special Summon a Colossus linked to Some Summer Summoner and then used Dragonroar’s effect to Special Summon Dragonmatrix from his Deck. He activated Thunder Dragon Fusion, fusing the Dragonmatrix on his field with 2 Thunder Dragons in his Graveyard to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Titan linked to Some Summer Summoner. Next, he Tributed Some Summer Summoner to Special Summon another Thunder Dragon Colossus from the Extra Deck and entered his Battle Phase! Dragonduo attacked and destroyed Knightmare Phoenix in battle, and Flores used his Dragonduo’s effect to banish an Infinite Impermanence from his Graveyard to add Thunder Dragon from his Deck to his hand. Next, Titan attacked Shizuku, destroying it in battle. Mattila used Ray’s effect to Special Summon it to the field in Defense Position, and then Colossus attacked Raye. Mattila used Raye’s effect to Tribute it and Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kaina, and then used Kaina’s effect to target a Colossus. The other Colossus attacked and destroyed Kaina. Flores activated the effect of a Thunder Dragon to get another from his Deck and destroy a Mystical Space Typhoon with Titan, and then used the effect of the Thunder Dragon he grabbed from his Deck. He tried using Titan again, but lost out to Impermanence. Flores Link Summoned Knightmare Phoenix and activated its effect by discarding Thunder Dragon. He destroyed a Sky Striker Mecharmory – Hercules Base with its effect, allowing Mattila to recycle a Widow Anchor, Kagari, and Shizuku.
Mattila drew to 2 cards in his hand and passed his turn with no field.
Flores attacked directly with his field of Titan, Colossus, and Knightmare Phoenix, ending the Duel!

Duel Two
Flores opened up Duel 2 with Twin Twisters, Thunder Dragondark, and 3 copies of Thunder Dragonhawk!
He discarded Thunder Dragondark from his hand to grab another copy from his Deck and then discarded Thunder Dragonhawk to Special Summon the Dragondark from the Graveyard. Next, he Tributed Dragondark to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Titan in Defense Position and ended his turn.
Mattila activated Foolish Burial Goods to send Metalfoes Fusion from his Deck to his Graveyard and then shuffled the Metalfoes Fusion back into his Deck to draw a card. He Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.
Flores drew Thunder Dragonmatrix and then Normal Summoned it to the field. Mattila flipped Metaverse to play Mystic Mine from his Deck, but Flores used Twin Twisters to discard a Dragonhawk and destroy Mystic Mine! Flores sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Some Summer Summoner and tried to use Dragonmatrix’s effect, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, he used Dragonhawk’s effect to Special Summon Dragondark and Tributed Dragondark to Special Summon a Colossus. He used Dragondark’s effect to get a Thunder Dragon Fusion from his Deck and activated it to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Titan from his Extra Deck. Next, he Tributed Some Summer Summoner to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Colossus. Direct attacks from Titan and both copies of Colossus wiped out all of Mattila’s Life Points!
David Flores is moving on to the Top 4 with his Thunder Dragon Deck!
