Shannon Long made it to the Top 32 with his Mekk-Knight Deck!

That’s right, a fully dedicated Mekk-Knight Deck made it to the Top Cut. Long has been playing the Deck for a long time, with many Regional Qualifier wins and tops with it.

There’s a surprising amount of control found here thanks to cards that older Mekk-Knight Decks usually forewent: World Legacy Key and World Legacy’s Secret. He can search for these or his other World Legacy cards thanks to Mekk-Knight of the Morning Star.

Since the Mekk-Knight monsters only take up twelve monster card slots, he has a lot of room to customize his Deck. He’s using the space to play a total of nine “hand traps”, with such a variety that he can handle most situations. There’s also a pair of Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju to give him an out to single troublesome monsters.

One standout card choice is Ipiria. You can Normal Summon it to draw a card, then use it to play Salamangreat Almiraj and protect your other monsters. Since you can just Special Summon your Mekk-Knights after, it’s a great way to begin a play. You can also use it as an easy material for Mekk-Knight of the Morning Sun while drawing a card.

Since Mekk-Knights largely depend on their opponent playing cards first (to allow you to Special Summon the Knights), it can struggle when made to take the first turn of the Duel. Long noted his Artifact lineup and Waking the Dragon in the Side Deck. They give him something to play on that first turn and really punish his opponent.

Shannon Long finished with a strong Top 32 finish today, showing that Mekk-Knights are a viable strategy in today’s Dueling world. Congrats!
