Dragon Duel Top 4 Feature Match: Connor R. vs. James H.
13-year-old Connor R. from Portland, Oregon has been Dueling since he was 10 years old and is now in the Top 4 of North America’s most prestigious Dragon Duel tournament of the year. His opponent, 13-year-old James H. from Eauclair, Wisconsin, has also been Dueling for about three years and is now facing off against Connor in this Top 4 Match. Connor is using a Mekk-Knight Deck, while James is using Sky Strikers. One of these Duelists will advance to the Finals, and the other will be eliminated. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
James started off Duel 1 by activating Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero and Setting a card to his back row.
He used Area Zero to target his Set card and revealed Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole from the top three cards of his Deck. He added it to his hand and destroyed his face-down Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon. He activated the Multirole and then Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Roze. He sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari and use Kagari’s effect to return Shark Cannon to his hand. He Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku next and Set a card to his back row. In his End Phase, he added Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to his hand and activated it, targeting Shizuku. That let him Set it back to the field with the effect of Multirole.
Connor opened up with World Legacy Key, World Legacy’s Memory, Mekk-Knight Blue Sky, Mekk-Knight Red Moon and Dark Ruler No More. He drew a card and then and then Set the Memory across from Multirole. He Special Summoned Blue Sky in that column next and used its effect to add Mekk-Knight Purple Nightfall from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Purple Nightfall and then used its effect to banish it and search his Deck for Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight and add it to his hand. He Normal Summoned it and then activated its effect, but James flipped Widow Anchor to negate its effect. Next, Connor sent his two monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Galatea, the Orcust Automaton. He Xyz Summoned Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star and used its effect to send Multirole to the Graveyard. He Set World Legacy Key and then Special Summoned Red Moon. He used Red Moon’s effect to destroy Shizuku in its column by banishing Girsu and then flipped his Key and used its effect to add Girsu to his hand. Direct attacks from Dingirsu and Red Moon dropped James down to 3100 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Connor Xyz Summoned Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder by using Dingirsu as an Xyz Material. He Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.
James Special Summoned Therion “King” Regulus from his hand, equipped with the Shizuku in his Graveyard. Then he used Area Zero’s effect, targeting Shizuku, and added Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! to his hand and destroyed the Shizuku in his Spell & Trap Card Zone. James Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye next and sent it to the Graveyard along with Regulus to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Zeke. He used Zeke’s effect to target Zeus, and Connor Chained World Legacy’s Memory. James Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Connor Chained Zeus’s effect and then James Chained Shark Cannon to banish Dingirsu from the Graveyard. The Chain resolved, and Zeus sent all cards on the field to the Graveyard before being banished by Zeke. James Special Summoned Raye from his Graveyard with its effect, attacked directly with Raye, and then used Raye’s effect to Tribute it and Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. He attacked directly with Hayate and sent Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to his Graveyard with its effect. He Link Summoned Kagari in Main Phase 2, used its effect to return Engage to his hand, and then activated Engage to add Widow Anchor to his hand and draw a card. He Set a card to his back row. Next, he Link Summoned Shizuku and entered his End Phase. He added Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to his hand with the effect of Shizuku in the End Phase.
Connor drew a card and then returned Nightfall to his field. He Tributed Shizuku to Summon Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju to James’s field and then Summoned Girsu. He used its effect to send World Legacy – “World Chalice” to his Graveyard. Next, he banished Nightfall to add Blue Sky to his hand and used Girsu’s effect to Special Summon a Token to both fields. He Link Summoned Lib the World Key Blademaster and used its effect to Set World Legacy’s Secret. Then, he Special Summoned Blue Sky and used its effect to add Mekk-Knight Yellow Star and Mekk-Knight Indigo Eclipse to his hand. He Set another card to his back row, Special Summoned Indigo Eclipse, and then Link Summoned I:P Masquerena. He Link Summoned Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax next and then Special Summoned Mekk-Knight Yellow Star. He used Yellow Star’s effect to destroy James’s face-down Widow Anchor and then attacked Gameciel with Avramax. He used Avramax’s effect to increase its ATK by 2200 ATK and destroyed Gameciel in battle! A direct attack from Mekk-Knight Yellow Star finished James off!

Duel Two
Connor opened up Duel 2 with Galaxy Cyclone, Pot of Prosperity, Mekk-Knight Purple Nightfall, Mekk-Knight Red Moon, and World Legacy’s Secret.
He activated Pot of Prosperity by banishing 6 cards from his Extra Deck but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He then ended his turn with no further play.
James activated Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Sky Striker Ace Token and used it to Link Summon Hayate. He attacked with Hayate and used Hayate’s effect to send Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he Link Summoned Kagari and used its effect to return Engage to his hand. He activated it to add Widow Anchor from his Deck to his hand. He Set it to the field and then Link Summon Shizuku. He Set another card to his field and then Special Summoned Therion “King” Regulus from his hand equipped with the Kagari in his Graveyard. He added Multirole to his hand in the End Phase with the effect of Shizuku.
Connor drew a card and then activated Galaxy Cyclone to destroy James’s face-down Widow Anchor. He Set World Legacy’s Secret across from Shizuku and then Special Summoned Purple Nightfall. He attacked Shizuku with Purple Nightfall, destroying Shizuku and dropping James down to 7300 Life Points. Next, Connor activated his Purple Nightfall’s effect, and James negated it with the effect of Regulus. In the End Phase, James flipped Twin Twisters to destroy World Legacy’s Secret by discarding Harpie’s Feather Duster.
James activated Mystic Mine, but Connor Chained Purple Nightfall’s effect to banish Purple Nightfall! In the End Phase, Mystic Mine was destroyed since both players controlled no monsters!
Connor Summoned Girsu and used its effect to send “World Chalice” to the Graveyard. He used Purple Nightfall’s effect to banish it from the field and add Blue Sky to his hand. He then used Girsu’s effect to Special Summon a Token to both fields. He Link Summoned Lib next and used its effect to Set World Legacy’s Secret from his Deck. He Special Summoned Blue Sky next and used its effect to add Indigo Eclipse to his hand and then Link Summoned Mekk-Knight of the Morning Star. He activated its effect by discarding Yellow Star and added World Legacy’s Memory to his hand. He Set it so that he could Special Summon Indigo Eclipse and then moved Indigo Eclipse to another zone with its effect. He Special Summoned Red Moon next and used its effect to destroy the Token on James’s field. He Special Summoned Purple Knightfall next, and when Connor tried to enter his Battle Phase, James stopped him and used the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being! He Special Summoned Nibiru, and Connor received a Primal Being Token in exchange for all of his monsters! Connor used the Token to Link Summon Link Spider.
James Normal Summoned Raye and then attacked Link Spider with Nibiru to destroy it. Raye attacked directly next, and Connor dropped down to 3800 Life Points. Next, he activated Raye’s effect by Tributing it, and Connor Chained World Legacy’s Secret to Special Summon Mekk-Knight Indigo Eclipse to his field. World Legacy’s Secret negated Raye’s effect since Raye activated its effect while it was in the same column as Secret. Next, Connor activated Memory to Special Summon Purple Nightfall from his Deck and banished Purple Nightfall to add Blue Sky to his hand.
Connor returned his Purple Knightfalls to his field, Set a card, and Special Summoned Blue Sky. He Link Summoned Galatea next and then Xyz Summoned Dingirsu by using Galatea as an Xyz Material. He sent Nibiru to the Graveyard with Dingirsu’s effect and then James conceded, realizing he was defeated.
