Dragon Duel Championship Top 16 Feature Match: Cole L. vs. Tomas Z.
12-year-old Cole L. from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania practices Dueling every week at his local Official Tournament Store, The Philly Game Shop, and thinks that his practice has prepared him for this weekend’s Dragon Duel Championship. He says everyone at the The Philly Game Shop is rooting for him, and he wants to make them proud and bring home a trophy – but to do that, he’ll need to win this Top 16 Feature Match! Cole L. is using a Fiendsmith Yubel Deck, and he’s about to Duel against 13-year-old Tomas Z. from Kentucky. Tomas is using a Tenpai Dragon Deck, and hoping to bring that Deck into the Finals! One of these Duelists will be eliminated this round, while the others will advance to the Top 8. It’s time to Duel!
Duel One
Cole opened up Duel 1 with Triple Tactics Talent, Nightmare Pain, Super Polymerization, Terraforming, and Infinite Impermanence.
In the Draw Phase, Tomas activated the effect of Dimension Shifter from his hand. Cole activated Terraforming in his Main Phase and added Nightmare Throne from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and used its effect to destroy Spirit of Yubel from his Deck. He used the effect of Spirit of Yubel to Special Summon Yubel from his Deck in Attack Position. Next, he activated Nightmare Pain and used its effect to destroy Yubel. He added Gruesome Grave Squirmer to his hand with the effect of Nightmare Pain and then Special Summoned Yubel – Terror Incarnate with the effect of his destroyed Yubel. Next, he Special Summoned Gruesome Grave Squirmer from his hand. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then destroyed Gruesome Grave Squirmer with the effect of his Terror Incarnate in the End Phase.
Tomas activated Sangen Summoning and then Normal Summoned Dora Dora. He used its effect to add Tenpai Dragon Genroku to his hand and then used its effect to Special Summon it to his field. He Tributed it to Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Paidra from his Deck and used Paidra’s effect to add Sangen Kaimen from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Sangen Summoning to add Tenpai Dragon Chundra from his Deck to his hand and discarded Tenpai Dragon Fadra from his hand. He Special Summoned Chundra and then entered his Battle Phase. Cole flipped Super Polymerization! He fused his Terror Incarnate with all 3 of Tomas’s monsters to Fusion Summon Yubel – The Loving Defender Forever! He inflicted 2000 points of damage to Cole’s Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Tomas Set 3 cards to his back row.
Cole drew Abominable Chamber of the Unchained and Set it before ending his turn.
Tomas Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir and activated its effect. Cole flipped Infinite Impermanence to try to negate its effect, but Tomas flipped an Infinite Impermanence in the same column as Cole’s Infinite Impermanence to negate the effect of Cole’s Infinite Impermanence and his Yubel monster! Tomas added another Fenrir to his hand and then activated the effect of Sangen Summoning to add a Tenpai Dragon Genroku from his Deck to his hand and discard Fenrir. He Special Summoned Genroku and then Tributed it to Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Paidra from his Deck. He used its effect to add a Sangen Summoning from his Deck to his hand and then activated Sangen Kaimen to add Chundra to his hand. He Special Summoned it to his field and then Tuned Chundra with Paidra to Synchro Summon Sangenpai Bident Dragion. He used Bident Dragion’s effect to Special Summon Chundra back from his Graveyard. He entered his Battle Phase and then attacked with Fenrir. He used Fenrir’s effect to banish Nightmare Pain face-down and destroyed the Yubel Fusion Monster in battle while inflicting 2400 points of damage to Cole’s Life Points. He used Chundra’s effect to Special Summon Fadra from his Deck in Attack Position. He used Fadra’s effect to Special Summon Paidra from his Graveyard. Cole conceded, realizing that Tomas had enough Attack Points on the field to wipe out all of his Life Points.
Tomas Z. wins the first Duel with his Tenpai Dragon Deck! Cole chose to force Tomas to go first in Duel 2.
Duel Two
Tomas started off Duel 2 by activating the effect of Dimension Shifter in his Main Phase!
Next, he activated Terraforming and used its effect to add Sangen Summoning from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and then Normal Summoned Paidra. He used Paidra’s effect to add Sangen Kaimen from his Deck to his hand and then used Sangen Summoning’s effect to add Tenpai Dragon Chundra from his Deck to his hand and discard a Sangen Summoning. He Special Summoned Chundra from his hand next and then used Paidra and Chundra to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres. He Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.
Cole opened up Duel 2 with Called by the Grave, Nightmare Pain, Fiendsmith’s Tract, Opening of the Spirit Gates, and Samsara D Lotus. He drew another Lotus for his turn and then activated Opening of the Spirit Gates. He tried using its effect, but Tomas returned the Opening to Cole’s hand by Tributing his Hieratic Seal. Tomas Chained Called by the Grave to banish Dimension Shifter, but it didn’t stop anything Tomas was doing. Tomas used his Hieratic Seal’s effect in a separate Chain and Special Summoned Fadra from his Deck. Next, Cole used Fiendsmith’s Tract to add Fabled Lurrie from his Deck to his hand and discard it. Since it was banished due to the effect of Dimension Shifter, he couldn’t Special Summon it. Next, he Normal Summoned Lotus and Tributed it to activate its effect; but Tomas activated the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it! Next, Cole activated Nightmare Pain. He used its effect to destroy a Lotus in his hand and add Spirit of Yubel from his Deck to his hand before ending his turn.
Tomas drew a card and Normal Summoned Tenpai Dragon Paidra! He used its effect to add Sangen Kaimen from his Deck to his hand and then used the effect of Sangan Summoning to add a Chundra from his Deck to his hand and discard Kaimen. He used Chundra’s effect to Special Summon it to his field and then Tuned Chundra with Fadra to Synchro Summon Bident Dragion. He used Bident Dragion’s effect to Special Summon Fadra and used Fadra’s effect to Special Summon Chundra. He Synchro Summoned Sangenpai Transcendent Dragion by Tuning Chundra with Bident Dragion next! He attacked directly with Chundra and used its effect to Special Summon Fadra from his Deck. Fadra and Paidra attacked directly next. He used his Bident Dragion’s effect in the Graveyard to Special Summon it back to his field and then direct attacks from Bident Dragion and Transcendent Dragion wiped out all of Cole’s Life Points! With Sangenpai Transcendent Dragion stopping Cole from activating any effects in the Battle Phase, Cole couldn’t Special Summon Spirit of Yubel to protect him and it was all over!
Tomas is moving on to the Top 8 with his Tenpai Dragon Deck!
