Round 10 Feature Match: Tristan Bridges vs. Donovan Nguyen

December 8th, 2024

We’re back with more Dueling action at YCS Anaheim! Tristan Bridges is here from Brush Prairie, Washington, using the new Ryzeal strategy! Ryzeals are having a huge impact on the tournament so far, and it’s carried him to a great record with just one loss so far. He’s facing Donovan Nguyen, from nearby Santa Ana, California, playing Voiceless Voice!

Duel 1

Nguyen won the dice roll and started with Barrier of the Voiceless Voice. He played Nadir Servant, prompting Bridges to use his Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Nguyen had Called by the Grave to negate it. Nadir Servant sent Garura, Wings of Resonant Life to the Graveyard, adding Dogmatika Maximus his hand, and Garura let him draw a card. Then he played Triple Tactics Talent to reveal Bridges’s hand! Bridges had a hand of two copies of Sword Ryzeal, Bonfire, and Triple Tactics Talent. Nguyen chose Bridges’s own Talent to return to the Deck. Nguyen continued by Normal Summoning Diviner of the Herald, sending Trias Hierarchia to the Graveyard. He Tributed Diviner to Special Summon Trias, and Diviner Special Summoned Lo, the Prayers of the Voiceless Voice. Lo put Radiance of the Voiceless Voice on the field. He Special Summoned Maximus, banishing Garura from the Graveyard. He used the effect of Saffira, Dragon Queen of the Voiceless Voice, sending Prayers of the Voiceless Voice to get Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice in hand. He used Saffira’s Graveyard effect, Tributing Lo to Ritual Summon Skull Guardian. Lo returned to the field, and Skull Guardian added Sauravis, the Ancient and Ascended to his hand. He used the effect of Maximus, sending Wind Pegasus @Ignister and Herald of the Arc Light to the Graveyard. Bridges sent Mereologic Aggregator and Donner, Dagger Fur Hire. Herald and Aggregator each activated their effects in the Graveyard, with Aggregator targeting Radiance to negate it. Nguyen Chained Radiance’s effect, shuffling back Sauravis, the Ancient and Ascended to Special Summon Sauravis, Dragon Sage of the Voiceless Voice. Then the Herald’s effect resolved, adding Sauravis, the Ancient and Ascended back to Nguyen’s hand.

Bridges drew Mulcharmy Purulia, much too late now. He played Bonfire, and Nguyen Chained Sage Sauravis’s effect to Special Summon his Ritual Sauravis. Bonfire put Ext Ryzeal in Bridges’s hand, and he Special Summoned it by sending Mereologic Aggregator to the Graveyard. Ext’s effect activated, and Mereologic Aggregator’s effect targeted Radiance. Nguyen Chained Radiance to destroy itself and Ext. Then Ext resolved its effect, putting Node Ryzeal in Bridges’s hand. He Special Summoned Sword, which put Ice Ryzeal in his hand. He Normal Summoned Ice to Special Summon another Ext. He stacked Ext and Sword for Evilswarm Exciton Knight, which was promptly negated and destroyed by Skull Guardian. Bridges Special Summoned Node, using it to discard Purulia and revive Ext. He used both monsters to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator, which attached Mereologic Aggregator as a material. Detonator attacked and destroyed Sauravis, and Nguyen activated the Graveyard effect of Wind Pegasus @Ignister to shuffle Detonator away. Bridges conceded!

Duel 2

Bridges played first this time, leading with a hand of Sword, Infinite Impermanence, Crossout Designator, Ice, and Called by the Grave. Nguyen used Mulcharmy Fuwalos in the Draw Phase, Bridges played Called by the Grave, and Nguyen Chained a second Fuwalos! Only one copy resolved, but that’s enough for such a powerful effect. Bridges Special Summoned Sword without using its effect, not opening himself up to Droll & Lock Bird. He then Special Summoned Ext by sending Ryzeal Duo Drive to the Graveyard. Ext put Node in his hand. He stacked his monsters for a Duo Drive, which attached the Duo Drive in his Graveyard. Nguyen drew a card from the effect of Fuwalos. Bridges activated Duo Drive’s effect, Nguyen had Effect Veiler, and Bridges used Crossout Designator to negate Veiler! Duo Drive put Ryzeal Plugin and Ryzeal Cross in his hand. He activated Cross, then Special Summoned Node. He Set Plugin and Infinite Impermanence.

In Nguyen’s Draw Phase, Bridges flipped Plugin to Special Summon Ext and attach Ryzeal Plasma Hole to Duo Drive. Ext put Sword in Bridges’s hand. Nguyen moved to the Main Phase and activated Barrier of the Voiceless Voice, putting Saffira in his hand. He used its effect, and Bridges used the effect of Cross to negate it, detaching Plasma Hole from his Duo Drive. Nguyen Normal Summoned Lo, and Bridges flipped Infinite Impermanence. Nguyen Link Summoned Salamangreat Almiraj, then Link Summoned Secure Gardna. He banished Almiraj from the Graveyard to Special Summon Dogmatika Maximus. Bridges responded with the Graveyard effect of Plasma Hole, and Xyz Summoned Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir in Defense Position! Nguyen had to pass the turn!

Bridges drew Ext Ryzeal, and detached a material from Bagooska. He switched Bagooska and Duo Drive to Attack Position, and activated Duo Drive’s effect. Nguyen flipped Dominus Purge. Bridges Normal Summoned Ice to Special Summon Sword from his Deck, and Sword put a new Ice in his hand. He Xyz Summoned Ryzeal Detonator, which attached Duo Drive from the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Ext, pitching Mereologic Aggregator, and the combo let him add a new Ryzeal to his hand while negating Secure Gardna’s defensive effect. Nguyen knew this Duel was about to be over, and conceded!

Duel 3

Nguyen started the final Duel, and Bridges activated Mulcharmy Purulia right away. Nguyen played Barrier to add Lo to his hand. He played Prayers of the Voiceless Voice, Tributing Lo in the hand to Ritual Summon Sauravis. Bridges drew a card through Purulia. Lo returned from the Graveyard, and its effect put Radiance on the field. He used Radiance to shuffle back Prayers from the Graveyard to Special Summon Sauravis, Dragon Sage of the Voiceless Voice. He Set one back row card.

Bridges had a hand of two Bonfire, Effect Veiler, Crossout Designator, and Ext Ryzeal. He drew Ryzeal Cross. He Special Summoned Ext, pitching Mereologic Aggregator. Mereologic Aggregator targeted Radiance to negate its effect. Nguyen returned Sauravis, Dragon Sage of the Voiceless Voice to his hand, then Chained Radiance to destroy Ext. Sauravis’s effect brought Skull Guardian to the field. Finally, Ext put Sword in Bridges’s hand. He Special Summoned Sword and added Ice to his hand. He Normal Summoned Ice, which brought Node to the field. He stacked Sword and Ice for Ryzeal Detonator, and Sauravis, the Ancient and Ascended returned to the hand to negate the Summon and banish Detonator! Bridges played Bonfire to find another Ice. He sent his second Bonfire to the Graveyard to Special Summon Ice, then stacked it with Node to play a second Detonator – but Nguyen had Solemn Judgment to negate the Summon! Bridges played Cross, using it to return a Detonator and Sword to his Deck and draw another Ice. He Set Crossout Designator.

Nguyen used Barrier’s effect to add a Saffira to his hand, then used its effect to send Prayers to the Graveyard and add Skull Guardian to the hand. He used Saffira’s Graveyard effect next, Tributing Sauravis, Dragon Sage of the Voiceless Voice to bring his second Skull Guardian to the field. Bridges offered the handshake!

Donovan Nguyen starts Day 2 off with a Voiceless Voice victory!
