Top 64 Feature Match: Jeff Jones vs. Stephen Klaus
From nearly 2300 Duelists, we’re down to just the Top 64! We’re here with UDS winner and YCS Champion Jeff Jones, from Michigan, playing Bystial Maliss. He’s facing Arizona Duelist Stephen Klaus, one of the last Atlantean Mermail Duelists in the tournament. The rest of the tournament is Single Elimination, so only one of these Duelists can move on!
Duel 1
Klaus won the dice roll and played first, starting the Top 64 off by… passing the turn!

Stephen Klaus
Jones had a hand of Allure of Darkness, Maliss <C> MTP-07, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Metaltronus, and Bystial Druiswurm. He drew Maliss <P> Chessy Cat, and played Allure of Darkness. Klaus responded with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Jones Normal Summoned Chessy Cat, then Link Summoned Link Decoder. He activated Druiswurm to banish Chessy Cat, then paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon Chessy Cat. Klaus Chained Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Jones Set MTP-07, then used all his monsters to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom. Red Ransom and Link Decoder activated, and Klaus Chained Infinite Impermanence on Red Ransom. Jones Chained MTP-07 to banish Red Ransom and dodge Impermanence, adding a Maliss to his hand. Link Decoder returned to the field, and Red Ransom’s effect put Maliss in Underground in his hand. Ransom returned to the field and banished Maliss <P> Dormouse, and he Special Summoned Dormouse. Dormouse banished Maliss <P> White Rabbit, and he Special Summoned that too. White Rabbit Set Maliss <C> GWC-06. Jones used Red Ransom and Link Decoder to Link Summon Accesscode Talker, which targeted Red Ransom in the Graveyard to gain 3000 ATK! With Accesscode, plus White Rabbit and Dormouse boosted by Dormouse’s effect, that was enough for Jones to attack and win the first Duel!
Duel 2
Klaus Normal Summoned Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince, sending Atlantean Dragoons to the Graveyard to add a Dragoons to his hand. The sent Dragoons then put Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord in his hand. He activated Deep Sea Minstrel, sending the second Dragoons to the Graveyard. Jones had a hand of Called by the Grave, Triple Tactics Thrust, Dormouse, Chessy Cat, and Maliss <C> TB-11. He knew he didn’t have much chance with his hand getting picked apart by Minstrel and Moulanglacia – he conceded to save the time on the clock.
Duel 3
Jones began the final Duel with Dominus Impulse, Chessy Cat, Dormouse, and two copies of Maliss in Underground. He activated Maliss in Underground, banishing Chessy Cat from his Deck, and he paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon it. He tried activating its effect, and it was hit by Ash Blossom. He Normal Summon Dormouse, banishing White Rabbit for its effect. He Special Summoned White Rabbit, which Set GWC-06.

Jeff Jones
He used Dormouse to Link Summon Link Decoder, then used everything to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder. Link Decoder returned to the field. He used White Binder’s effect to Set TB-11. He flipped it up, banishing White Binder to Special Summon a new White Rabbit. He paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon White Binder and draw another Dormouse. He used White Binder to banish TB-11 and Dormouse from his Graveyard, and paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon Dormouse. He used Dormouse, Link Decoder, and White Binder to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter. He banished Hearts Crypter to activate GWC, reviving White Binder and gaining 2300 Life Points. Then he paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon Hearts Crypter. He used White Rabbit and Hearts Crypter to Link Summon Knightmare Gryphon, discarding Chessy Cat to Set GWC-06 on the field and draw Triple Tactics Thrust. He used Gryphon and White Binder to Link Summon A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow. He used its effect, banishing it and discarding Dormouse to return Knightmare Gryphon to the field. He activated Thrust to Set MTP-07. In the End Phase, A Bao A Qu returned to the field, co-linked to Knightmare Gryphon.
Klaus activated Mermail Abyssteus, discarding Atlantean Heavy Infantry. Abyssteus couldn’t activate its effect on the field due to Gryphon, but Heavy Infantry destroyed Gryphon. Jones activated A Bao A Qu, discarding Underground to bring Gryphon back to the field and continue shutting down Klaus’s Special Summoned monsters. Klaus Normal Summoned Deep Sea Diva, which brought Neptabyss to the field. He used Diva and Neptabyss to Link Summon Marincess Coral Anemone, then used that and Abyssteus to Link Summon Mermail King – Neptabyss. Jones flipped GWC-06 to bring White Binder back to the field and gain 2300 Life Points, with it co-linked to Gryphon. White Binder banished Hearts Crypter from his Graveyard, and Prince Neptabyss and Abyssteus from Klaus’s. Jones then paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon Hearts Crypter with 5000 ATK! Klaus moved to the Battle Phase, and Underground made it so he could only attack Maliss Link Monsters. He sent King Neptabyss to attack Hearts Crypter, trying to get the effect when King was destroyed. Between Jones’s Set MTP-07 and Dominus Impulse, plus Gryphon’s effect, there was just no way for him to get going in this Duel – he offered the handshake!
Jeff Jones is heading to the Top 32 with Bystial Maliss!
