YCS Orlando: Supreme Darkness Tech Update

February 1st, 2025

Supreme Darkness introduced lots of powerful cards to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME when it was released last week, and Duelists are using several of those cards as tech choices to get ahead of the competition this weekend! Check out some of the top tech cards from the most newly released booster set!

(1.) Mulcharmy Meowls

Mulcharmy Meowls is the latest soldier in the Mulcharmy, and this one is being specifically used against Maliss Decks. Meowls lets you draw a card each time your opponent Special Summons a monster from the Graveyard or banishment. Since Special Summoning from banishment is a key feature of Maliss Decks, it’s tough for Maliss Duelists to continue making plays without letting you draw cards after Meowls’s effect resolves.

Although Meowls is undoubtedly strongest against Maliss Decks, it also has incidental impact on Fiendsmith and Mitsurugi strategies. Overall, Meowls is a popular tech choice from Supreme Darkness this weekend – especially in Duelists’ Side Decks – and it’s likely that many copies of Meowls will make their way into the Top Cut.

(2.) A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow

A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow is a new Link-4 monster that you can Summon by using 2 or more monsters, including a Fiend monster, as Link Materials. Since the Knightmare Link Monsters are easy-to-Summon Fiends, just about any Deck that Link Summons can Summon A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow, making it tech choice that works for several Decks.

A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow has a Quick Effect that that you can activate during the Main Phase by discarding a card. This Quick Effect lets you destroy a card on the field or banish A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow until the End Phase and Special Summon a LIGHT or DARK monster from your Graveyard. During your Standby Phase, A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow’s effect also lets you draw cards equal to the number of different Monster Types in your Graveyard, then place cards from your hand on the bottom of the Deck in any order, equal to the number of cards you drew.

A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow’s combination of powerful effects make it worth the effort it takes to Summon it, and is the reason lots of different Duelists are including it in their Extra Decks.

(3.) Eclipse Twins

Eclipse Twins is a new Rank 4 monster that fits perfectly into Ryzeal strategies. You can Xyz Summon it by combining 2 Level 4 monsters, but are also permitted to treat Rank 4 monsters as Level 4 monsters when Summoning it. It has 2500 ATK and its effect lets you detach an Xyz Material from it in order to let it attack up to 2 monsters in the Battle Phase. But these effects aren’t the ones that make Eclipse Twins so popular this weekend.

If Eclipse Twins is sent to the Graveyard – even if it’s sent there straight from the Extra Deck by Ext Ryzeal or Ultimate Slayer – you’ll be able to target 2 other Rank 4 or lower Xyz Monsters in your Graveyard. You can Special Summon one of them, and attach the other one to it as an Xyz Material. Special Summon Ryzeal Detonator, and you’ll be able to use the Detonator’s effect to attach Eclipse Twins from your Graveyard to your Detonator as an Xyz Material. Then, when the Eclipse Twins is sent to the Graveyard again on a subsequent turn, you’ll be able to use its effect once again. Eclipse Twins increases the resilience of already-resilient Xyz-based Decks, making it a powerful addition to Xyz strategies like Ryzeal.

While Ryzeal and Maliss Decks continue to dominate, Supreme Darkness added some new themes and a variety of powerful tech cards to the Advanced Format that Duelists are using to get ahead of the competition this weekend. Follow the coverage to see which tech cards from Supreme Darkness make it to the top of the competition tomorrow!
