Keeping Up With The Stevens: Round 8
Don’t call it a comeback – Maxx “Steve” never left! Last time we checked in, the Stevens weren’t doing so hot, but they’ve got some wins under their belts!
In Round 5 against Team Chaos, the Stevens found their footing. Rodriguez defeated Ryzeal, while Kangas took down Branded. Darling and his Melodious opponent decided to finish their own game since they were having so much fun. Darling had experience with the strategy, and knowingly used a Book of Moon against an attacking Soprano the Melodious Songstress, knowing that Score the Melodious Diva might be a factor. That was the exact card his opponent had, and Darling was able to leverage that play into a win.
For Round 6, they faced Team Reisegruppe, another team of Bounty Duelists from Germany. Rodriguez was able to overcome a Deep Draw Exodia Deck, which used cards like Golden Bamboo Sword and Into the Void to try and win with Exodia the Forbidden One. His opponent managed to get four pieces in the first Duel, but Rodriguez narrowly clutched it out. On the opposite side, Kangas was defeated by Mitsurugi Ryzeal. Darling was also against Mitsurugi Ryzeal, and his only play was to make Evilswarm Exciton Knight with Node Ryzeal and Mulcharmy Fuwalos – and his opponent had Infinite Impermanence to negate it!
Team Neopolitan were the Round 7 opponents, and Rodriguez was able to defeat Mimighoul – Kangas’s favorite Deck. Darling was able to win by attacking with Ryzeal Detonator and Ryzeal Duo Drive, then using Ryzeal Plasma Hole’s Graveyard effect to Xyz Summon Eclipse Twins! Kangas finally got a win on the board against Maliss in this round!
Finally, we have Round 8 against Team Lumpia & Beans. Kangas got a free win, because his opponent tragically lost his Deck during the tournament. There was nothing to be done, but they spent the round with Kangas teaching the Duelist how to use the new Blue-Eyes cards they just got. Rodriguez lost the Artifact Lancea minigame in a Maliss mirror Match, but Darling clutched out the final Match for his team against Crystrons.
Maxx “Steve” finished Day 1 with a 4-4 record, finishing 142nd overall out of 472 – not quite enough to make it to Day 2 of the tournament. They had a great time, and we loved catching up with them over the course of the day. We’ll see them back on the Live Stream soon!
