TEAM YCS Las Vegas 2025 Tech Update: Seventh Tachyon

March 15th, 2025

TEAM YCS Las Vegas is the first YCS event in which the new cards from Maze of the Master can be used. The newest set introduces a ton of new cards, but the one that players seem most excited about is Seventh Tachyon, a card that can be added to a wide variety of strategies to search for key monsters!

Seventh Tachyon requires you to reveal a “Number” Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck with a number between “101” and “107” in its name. You get to add a monster from your Deck to your hand, as long as that monster has the same Type or Attribute as the revealed monster, as well as a Level that matches the revealed monster’s Rank. You then have to place a card from your hand to the top of your Deck, and for the rest of the turn, you can only Special Summon Xyz Monsters from your Extra Deck. This card can potentially be used to search for a ton of different Main Deck monsters, as long as you have an appropriate monster to reveal from your Extra Deck, meaning that it can help out a ton of different Xyz-based strategies!

The Ryzeal strategy has been extremely popular ever since its debut with Crossover Breakers. They’re one of the most iconic Xyz decks in the game today, as Ryzeal Detonator and Ryzeal Duo Drive are two scary cards to have summoned against you. Seventh Tachyon is a tool that looks to strengthen the Ryzeal deck even further, as it’s able to search for any monster from the archetype. By revealing Number 105: Battlin’ Boxer Star Cestus, you can add Sword Ryzeal or Node Ryzeal from your Deck to your hand. Alternatively, you can use Number 102: Star Seraph Sentry or Number 104: Masquerade and search for Ext Ryzeal or Ice Ryzeal! Having access to any of the Ryzeal monsters is extremely important, as the majority of them can be used to either kick off combos or extend plays.

Another deck that can make use of Seventh Tachyon is Crystrons! Although they are generally a Synchro-based strategy, making use of powerful Synchros such as F.A. Dawn Dragster and Crystron Quariongandrax, keep in mind that Seventh Tachyon’s Extra Deck restriction only applies to the rest of the turn, after it has resolved. This means that you can make Crystron Eleskeletus early on in your turn, and use Seventh Tachyon later in the turn to search for a combo piece. The deck often uses two Level 5 monsters to Xyz Summon Cyber Dragon Nova, and then make Cyber Dragon Infinity! Of course, the theme also contains cards like Crystron Citree and Crystron Tristaros, cards that will still grant you access to powerful Synchro Monsters by Synchro Summoning on the opponent’s turn.

Even beyond these specific strategies, Seventh Tachyon can be used to search for several generic cards that can be helpful in specific matchups. The Maliss deck has been extremely popular recently, with its ability to banish monsters and Special Summon them back to the field. Players have adapted by siding multiple copies of Artifact Lancea and Chaos Hunters, two monsters that can be used during the opponent’s turn to try and prevent them from banishing cards. Some players have chosen to adapt by including Number C102: Archfiend’s Seraph or Number C103: Ragnafinity in their Extra Decks, as they can be revealed with Seventh Tachyon to search for Artifact Lancea, helping to try and shut down the strategy early. The Mulcharmy monsters are a very popular series of cards, as well, with each of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Mulcharmy Purulia, and Mulcharmy Meowls having strong uses against specific decks in the format. Purulia is particularly strong against Ryzeal, which looks to flood the field with Level 4 monsters from the hand, and you can search for Purulia with Seventh Tachyon by revealing Number 103: Ragnazero! Although this may not be ideal, as Purulia can only be activated if you control no cards on the field, depending on your opening hand, searching for Purulia might be the optimal route to draw you into the cards you need.

There are definitely a ton of potential applications for Seventh Tachyon in the format! Even some older strategies can make use of the card and greatly improve their consistency, such as Exosisters being able to search for Exosister Martha or Vanquish Soul having another way to access Vanquish Soul Razen. How will players be making use of Seventh Tachyon at TEAM YCS Las Vegas? Be sure to keep an eye on the blog this weekend to find out!
