We’re at Round 3 of the Genesys Championship, and the competition is getting intense! Both Duelists in this round’s Feature Match are playing strategies featuring cards newly released in Chaos Origins. Jesus Reyes Flores is playing Sacred Beast Deck, a strategy that uses the newly revamped versions of Hamon, Uria, and Raviel. Meanwhile, Eric Alden Saulsbury is playing the Blitzclique Deck, a new theme that debuted in Chaos Origins that revolves around flooding the field with Thunder-type monsters. Only one of these Duelists will move on to the next round with their undefeated record in tact. Let’s find out who it is! It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Saulsbury won the die roll and chose to go first! His opening hand contained Blitzclique – Breakaway, Surge Blitzclique,Blitzclique – Steppleader, Thunder King, the Lightning Strike Kaiju, and Pot of Extravagance. He began by activating Pot of Extravagance, banishing six cards from his Extra Deck and drawing Mulcharmy Fuwalos and Seventh Tachyon. He next activated Blitzclique – Steppleader and used its effect to Special Summon Surge Blitzclique and destroy Steppleader, then searched for Grain Blitzclique. He followed up by activating Blitzclique – Breakaway, placing Blitzclique Alternator to his backrow, then activated Seventh Tachyon! He revealed Number 106: Giant Hand from his Extra Deck to search for Surge Blitzclique, returned Fuwalos to the top of his Deck, then used Alternator’s effect to search for Whisker Blitzclique. 

Next, Saulsbury activated the effect of Grain Blitzclique, destroying Alternator and Special Summoning Grain, then banished Alternator from his Graveyard to search for Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb. Saulsbury activated Coulomb and used its effect, Special Summoning a Token to Flores’ side of the field, then searched for Emi Blitzclique. He activated Emi’s effect, destroying the Token and Special Summoning Emi, then added Blitzclique – Breakaway and Blitzclique – Steppleader from his Graveyard back to hand. Finally, he Special Summoned Whisker Blitzclique and destroyed Coulomb, used Emi’s effect to search for Blitzclique Alternator, Set two cards to his backrow, and ended his turn. 

Flores began by activating Card of the Soul and searching for Infinity of the Sacred Beasts – Raviel, Lord of Phantasms. He then Tributed all monsters on Saulsbury’s side of the field to Tribute Summon The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode! Next, Flores activated the effect of Raviel, searching for Sacred Beasts Released, then activated Released, searching for Martyr of the Sacred Beasts, Summoner of the Sacred Beasts, and Inferno of the Sacred Beasts – Uria, Lord of Searing Flames and discarding two cards. On resolution, Saulsbury activated Blitzclique Alternator, then activated Breakaway to place Blitzclique Return Stroke to his backrow. Next, he used the effect of Alternator, returning Return Stroke to the Deck to search for Crackle Blitzclique! Here, Flores summoned Martyr and searched for Sacred Beasts Thunderclap, as Saulsbury Chained the effect of Crackle, destroying Martyr and allowing him to add Breakaway and Whisker back to hand. Flores attempted to activate the effect of Thunderclap, but Saulsbury Chained the effect of Whisker, Special Summoning it and destroying Thunderclap! Flores activated Pair Bear Scare!!, and Saulsbury revealed his own copy of Pair Bear Scare!! from his own Deck, resulting in both Duelists gaining 2000 Life Points. 

Next, Flores activated the effect of Inferno of the Sacred Beasts – Uria, Lord of Searing Flames, searching for Sacred Beasts Combined Assault then discarding it. He then activated Raviel’s effect, searching for Martyr of the Sacred Beasts and discarding another card, and banished Sacred Beasts Combined Assault from his Graveyard, using Raviel, Uria, and Hamon in his hand to Fusion Summon The Chaotic Phantasmal Sacred Beasts! Flores entered the Battle Phase and used The Chaotic Phantasmal Sacred Beasts to attack Whisker Blitzclique, then ended his turn. 

Saulsbury drew another copy of Blitzclique – Breakaway for turn! He began by activating Breakaway, returning Crackle to hand. He then Tributed Flores’ copy of The Chaotic Phantasmal Sacred Beasts and Special Summoned Thunder King, the Lightningstrike Kaiju to Flores’ side of the field! He used the effect of Coulomb to Special Summon a Token to Flores’ side of the field and search for Surge Blitzclique, then Special Summoned Surge and destroyed the Thunder King. Saulsbury used Crackle’s effect to add Whisker back to hand, then activated Whisker’s effect, Special Summoning it and destroying the Token on Flores’ field. Saulsbury used Surge to search for Grain, then Special Summoned Grain by destroying Steppleader, allowing him to add the other Steppleader in his Graveyard to hand. He attacked Flores’ Life Points directly with the four monsters, then activated Steppleader, Set two cards to his backrow, and ended his turn. During the End Phase, control of Sphere Mode returned to Flores. He also attempted to activate the effect of Martyr, but Saulsbury Chained the effect of Whisker, returning Crackle to hand. 

Flores began his next turn by activating Sacred Beasts Thunderclap! However, when he activated its effect, Saulsbury Chained Blitzclique – Breakaway, destroying it before Flores could resolve its effect. However, this allowed Flores to trigger several effects, adding Steppleader back to hand and searching for Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb and Whisker Blitzclique. Flores wasn’t able to continue pushing through Saulsbury’s board, and conceded. 

Duel 2

Flores chose to go first in the second Duel! He began by activating Sacred Beasts Released, searching for Infinity of the Sacred Beasts – Raviel, Lord of Phantasms, Martyr of the Sacred Beasts, and Calamity of the Sacred Beasts – Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder, then discarding Summoner of the Sacred Beasts and Martyr. He activated the effect of Summoner in the Graveyard, banishing it to Special Summon Martyr and search for Sacred Beasts Thunderclap, then activated Thunderclap, placing two more copies of Thunderclap to his backrow. He then used its effect to place Fallen Paradise of the Sacred Beasts to the field! He sent all three copies of Thunderclap to the Graveyard to Special Summon Summoner, then Special Summoned two more copies of Martyr from his Deck. He used two copies of Martyr to Xyz Summon Ghostrick Dullahan, then used it to Xyz Summon Ghostrick Angel of Mischief! He used Angel’s effect to search for Ghostrick Shot, then activated Shot to Special Summon back Dullahan. Flores used Dullahan to Xyz Summon another Angel, then used the two copies of Angel to Xyz Summon Number F0: Utopic Future Zexal! He added Ghostrick Shot back to hand, then used the effect of Hamon in hand to search for another Sacred Beasts Released and discard Hamon. 

Flores activated Summoner’s effect, discarding Shot to Special Summon back the Hamon, then used Raviel’s effect to search for Inferno of the Sacred Beasts – Uria, Lord of Searing Flames and discard Released. He used Uria’s effect to search for Sacred Beasts Combined Assault and discard Uria, then used Paradise’s effect to draw two cards! Flores then used Paradise’s other effect to Special Summon back Inferno of the Sacred Beasts – Uria, Lord of Searing Flames from the Graveyard, then used Summoner to Special Summon Thunder Dragon Colossus! Finally, he Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Saulsbury opened with Blitzclique – Steppleader, Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb, Surge Blitzclique, Grain Blitzclique, and Seventh Tachyon. He drew Gordian Slicer for turn, and started by activating it, banishing six cards from his Extra Deck to return Utopic Future Zexal to the Extra Deck! He then activated the effect of Grain Blitzclique, and Flores Chained Sacred Beasts Combined Assault, Special Summoning Calamity of the Sacred Beasts – Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder from the Graveyard as Saulsbury Special Summoned Grain. However, Saulsbury realized he could not push through Flores’ monsters and conceded. We’re moving on to game three!

Duel 3

Saulsbury opened the pivotal game three with Offerings to the Doomed, D.D. Crow, Grain Blitzclique, Kewl Tune Crackle, and Blitzclique – Breakaway. He started in the Draw Phase by activating Blitzclique – Breakaway, placing Blitzclique Alternator to his backrow. He activated Alternator’s effect, returning Crackle Blitzclique from his hand to the Deck to search for Surge Blitzclique. He Normal Summoned Surge, then activated Grain’s effect, destroying Alternator to Special Summon it. This allowed him to add Alternator to his backrow, as well as use Grain’s effect to search for Coulomb. He activated Coulomb’s effect, but Flores Chained the effect of Veidos the Eruption Dragon of Extinction, destroying Coulomb before Saulsbury could resolve its effect! However, Saulsbury was able to use Surge’s effect to search for Whisker. Saulsbury banished Alternator from his Graveyard to search for Blitzclique – Steppleader, activated Steppleader, then used its effect to Special Summon Whisker Blitzclique and destroy Steppleader. In a new Chain, he added Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb back to hand, then activated it. Finally, he Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Flores began his turn by Tributing Saulsbury’s Whisker, Veidos, and Surge to Tribute Summon The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode to Saulsbury’s side of the field! Flores activated the effect of Veidos, destroying the Sphere Mode, as Saulsbury Chained Breakaway to place Blitzclique Return Stroke to his backrow. Flores then activated the effect of Calamity of the Sacred Beasts – Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder, searching for Sacred Beasts Released and discarding Hamon. Flores activated Released, but Saulsbury Chained the effect of Return Stroke, returning Grain to hand to negate the effect of Released. Next, Flores activated the effect of Infinity of the Sacred Beasts – Raviel, Lord of Phantasms, searching for Martyr of the Sacred Beasts and then discarding it. He followed up by activating the effect of Inferno of the Sacred Beasts – Uria, Lord of Searing Flames, searching for and discarding Sacred Beasts Combined Assault, then ended his turn. 

Saulsbury drew Skull Meister for turn! He started off by activating Coulomb, Special Summoning a Token to Flores’ side of the field and searching for Surge Blitzclique. He activated Surge’s effect, destroying the Token to Special Summon Surge, then activated the effect of Grain Blitzclique, destroying his Coulomb to Special Summon Grain. He added Steppleader and Breakaway back to hand, then searched for Whisker Blitzclique! He activated Steppleader, then Special Summoned Whisker and destroyed Steppleader, allowing him to add Coulomb back to hand. He proceeded to the Battle Phase and attacked directly with Whisker; Flores attempted to activate the effect of Combined Assault, but Saulsbury Chained the effect of Skull Meister! Saulsbury attacked Flores’ Life Points directly with his remaining monster, then activated Breakaway to place Alternator to his backrow. He used Alternator’s effect to search or Emi Blitzclique, then Special Summoned it and attacked Flores’ Life Points directly to reduce them to zero. 

With the victory, Saulsbury wins the round and improves to a 3-0 record here at the Genesys Championship!
