The Genesys Championship is underway, and we’re jumping in with a Round 2 Feature Match! Philadelphia Duelist Shunping Xu is playing Branded today, facing Texas Duelist Andres Arreola with Darklords!

Duel 1

Arreola won the dice roll and played first. Xu’s starting hand was Branded in High Spirits, Branded Open, Albion the Shrouded Dragon, Fallen of Albaz, and Fallen of the White Dragon.

Arreola began by Normal Summoning Indulged Darklord, which put Darklord Ixhel in his hand and Special Summoned Darklord Gulgolet to Xu’s side of the field. He used Ixhel’s effect, discarding it and another Gulgolet to draw two cards. He used Gulgolet’s effect to put Darklord Dance in his hand. He played Dance, fusing Xu’s Gulgolet with his own Gulgolet in his Graveyard, into Darklord Eveningstar. Its effect Set The Sanctified Darklord and Banishment of the Darklords, and he activated Banishment to put another Gulgolet in his hand. He used Eveningstar’s effect to use Banishment’s effect again, this time adding Darklord Tezcatlipoca to his hand. He set one more back row card.

Xu drew Final Bringer of the End Times. He started with the effect of Albion the Shrouded Dragon, sending Branded Sword to the Graveyard, and he Chained Branded Opening discarding the Albion. Opening put Aluber the Jester of Despia on the field. He used Aluber’s effect, and Arreola flipped The Sanctified Darklord sending Indulged Darklord to the Graveyard. Xu responded with Final Bringer, targeting Aluber and Arreola’s set back row card. Arreola flipped it: Forbidden Chalice! Chalice negated Aluber, then Final Bringer destroyed Aluber and The Sanctified Darklord, and finally, The Sanctified Darklord’s effect had to option but to negate Eveningstar and give Arreola 3000 Life Points. Xu tried to continue his turn by Special Summoning Fallen of the White Dragon (by sending The Dragon that Devours the Dogma to the Graveyard), and Arreola had Herald of Orange Light, discarding Gulgolet! Xu Chained Branded in High Spirits, sending Albion the Branded Dragon to the Graveyard to add Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt to his hand. Gulgolet then put Banishment in Arreola’s hand. Xu finally used his Normal Summon for Fallen of Albaz, discarding Kitt to fuse with Eveningstar! He brought forth Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon! Kitt’s effect revived Fallen of the White Dragon, which brought Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous to the field. He used Incredible Ecclesia to Special Summon The Golden Swordsoul, and finally moved to the Battle Phase. He attacked with everything to drop Arreola to 3400 Life Points. Before the end of the turn, Arreola used D.D. Crow to banish Albion the Branded Dragon from the Graveyard before its effect could activate. The Dragon that Devours the Dogma put Tri-Brigade Mercourier in Xu’s hand. Then, Incredible Ecclesia returned to his hand.

Arreola used Darklord Amdusc, discarding it and Darklord Morningstar trying to get Darklord Dance back in his hand. Xu responded with Mercourier to negate it. Arreola played Banishment to instead add a Darklord Dance from his Deck to his hand, and played it to Fusion Summon a new Eveningstar by banishing materials from his Graveyard. Eveningstar put Darklord Contact and Darklord Rebellion on the field.  He used Eveningstar’s effect on Darklord Dance, and Fusion Summoned The First Darklord! Its effect activated, and Xu responded with Mirrorjade’s effect sending Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon to the Graveyard. Arreola Chained Eveningstar’s effect, dropping to just 1400 Life Points to bring Ixhel to the field. Mirrorjade banished Ixhel, and then The First Darklord’s effect destroyed all of Xu’s monsters! Once the Chain resolved, Xu used Rindbrumm’s effect to Special Summon Fallen of Albaz, discarding Incredible Ecclesia to fuse it with both of Arreola’s monsters, into The Dragon that Devours the Dogma! Its effect put Arreola’s Fusion Monsters back in the Extra Deck. Arreola played Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus to find and Normal Summon Darklord Djehuty. He Special Summoned Indulged Darklord. That let him put another Djehuty on Xu’s field and another Ixhel in his hand. He stacked his monsters for Fairy Cheer Girl and used its effect to draw a card. He used Ixhel, discarding it and Tezcatlipoca to draw two cards. He flipped up Darklord Contact to revive Ixhel, and used its effect on Sanctified, dropping to 400 Life Points. He played Forbidden Crown to protect Ixhel. In the End Phase, Mirrorjade destroyed Fairy Cheer Girl, and both Incredible Ecclesia and High Spirits returned to Xu’s hand.

Xu drew another Final Bringer of the End Times. He played High Spirits, sending Incredible Ecclesia and Granguignol the Dusk Dragon to the Graveyard to put Guiding Quem, the Virtuous in his hand. He used Granguignol to send Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt to the Graveyard, and Kitt then brought Fallen of the White Dragon to the field, which in turn put Incredible Ecclesia on the field. He Synchro Summoned The Three Champions of Swordsoul, giving him enough to end this Duel!

Duel 2

Xu had Pair Bear Scare!!, Springans Kitt, Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt, and two copies of Hey, Trunade! to start this Duel.

Arreola began with Banishment to get Ixhel, and discarded it and Gulgolet to draw two cards. Gulgolet put Dance in his hand, then played Terminus to send Junora, the Power Patron of Tuning to the Graveyard and and add Djehuty to his hand. He Normal Summoned it, and its effect let him Special Summon Indulged Darklord, which put Ixhel on Xu’s field and put Amdusc in his Arreola’s hand. He played Super Duper Polymerization! It let him fuse Xu’s Ixhel with Timelord Progenitor Vorpgate into Darklord Eveningstar! He used its effect to set The Sanctified Darklord and Darklord Contact. He stacked Indulged with Djehuty for Fairy Cheer Girl, and drew a card with its effect. He used Amdusc, discarding it and Dance to add Gulgolet to his hand. He used Eveningstar’s effect on Banishment, adding Morningstar to his hand. He set two more back row cards to finish his turn.

Xu drew Fallen of Albaz. He led with Hey, Trunade! to return all Set Spells and Traps, and Arreola Chained Magic Deflector. Xu Chained to that with Pair Bear Scare!!, and Arreola Chained The Sanctified Darklord by sending Gulgolet to the Graveyard. Finally, Arreola Chained Eveningstar’s effect to copy Dance! Arreola fused Ixhel, Vorpgate, and Morningstar into The First Darklord. Sanctified then negated Eveningstar to give him 3000 Life Points. Pair Bear Scare destroyed The First Darklord, and Trunade finally returned the other Set cards to the hand. Xu Normal Summoned Fallen of Albaz, discarding Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt, fusing all monsters on the field into The Dragon that Devours the Dogma. In a new Chain, Dogma returned Eveningstar and Sanctified to Arreola’s Deck and Extra Deck, then Kitt brought Fallen of Albaz back to the field. Xu Special Summoned Springans Kitt, adding Branded in White to his hand. He played it, fusing Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt from his Graveyard with Fallen of Albaz, into Albion the Branded Dragon! He used Albion to bring Titaniklad the Ash Dragon to the field, letting him end this Match!
