Nathaniel Vasquez from New Orleans, Louisiana and Kevin Ochoa from Boston, Massachusetts are both 4-0 in the 2026 North America World Championship Qualifier using new themes from the recently released Chaos Origins booster set. Vasquez is using a Deck built around Light and Darkness Ritual. It includes new cards that put a spin on some of Yugi Muto’s most iconic monsters from the original animated Yu-Gi-Oh! series. Ochoa is using a Blitzclique Deck, which can rapidly Summon monsters from the hand to overwhelm his opponents. Only one of these Duelists will be able to advance into Round 6 with a perfect 5-0 record. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Ochoa went first in Duel 1 but simply ended his first turn without making any play!

Vasquez drew Called by the Grave on his turn and added it to his hand of Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos, Skull Archfiend of Chaos, The Fallen & The Virtuous, Mind Shuffle, and Dominus Spark. He Set 3 cards to his back row and then ended his turn!

Ochoa activated the effect of Grain Blitzclique from his hand and targeted Vasquez’s face-down Mind Shuffle with its effect. Vasquez Chained Mind Shuffle and used its effect to add Griffoh from his Deck to his hand and discard Skull Archfiend of Chaos. He then used the Skull Archfiend’s effect by sending Light and Darkness Ritual from his Deck to his Graveyard and added Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness from his Deck to his hand. Ochoa Normal Summoned Emi Blitzclique next, and then activated the effect of Surge Blitzclique in his hand to try to destroy his own Emi. Vasquez Chained Dominus Spark from his hand targeting Emi, and Ochoa Chained the effect of Whisker Blitzclique from his hand. Vasquez Chained The Fallen & the Virtuous by sending Albion the Branded Dragon from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and destroyed Grain Blitzclique. Ochoa Special Summoned Whisker and Surge from his hand with Whisker’s effect and then destroyed Vasquez’s face-down Called by the Grave and his own Emi. Ochoa attacked directly with Surge and Whisker, dropping Vasquez down to 3200 Life Points. Ochoa Set a card to his back row, and in the End Phase, Vasquez activated the effect of Griffoh by discarding it to Set Mind Shuffle from his Deck. He flipped it face-up before starting his turn.

Vasquez drew Celtic Mystic and then used the effect of the Light and Darkness Ritual in his Graveyard to return it to his hand along with Skull Archfiend. He activated it , but Ochoa Chained Blitzclique Return Stroke and returned Whisker to his hand to negate the effect of Light and Darkness Ritual and destroy it. Next, Vasquez Normal Summoned Celtic Mystic and activated its effect. He revealed his hand and then drew Fallen of Albaz, Celtic Mystic, and Ragged Records of Rites and discarded Fallen of Albaz and Celtic Mystic. He Tributed the Celtic Mystic to Special Summon Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos from his hand and used its effect to return a Spell from his Graveyard to his Graveyard. Ochoa Chained the effect of Crackle Blitzclique, but it couldn’t destroy Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos since it was unaffected by effects that don’t target it. Vasquez returned Called by the Grave from his Graveyard to his hand with the effect of his Ritual Monster. He activated Ragged Records of Rites next, revealing Light and Darkness Ritual from his Deck and adding Black Chaos from his Deck to his hand. He returned Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness from his hand to his Deck to Special Summon the Black Chaos and then used its effect to banish both cards from Ochoa’s field. Next, Vasquez activated the effect of the Skull Archfiend in his hand. He returned 3 cards from his Graveyard to the bottom of his Deck to Special Summon it and then entered his Battle Phase. He attacked directly with Skull Archfiend first, and Ochoa activated the effect of Whisker in his hand. He Special Summoned Whisker and Crackle, attempting to destroy Skull Archfiend and Mind Shuffle. Mind Shuffle couldn’t be destroyed due to the effect of Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos. Skull Archfiend’s effect activated, sending Light and Darkness Ritual from Vasquez’s Deck to his Graveyard to add Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness from Vasquez’s Deck to his hand. Crackle’s effect activated to send Blitzclique Alternator from the Deck to the Graveyard. Black Chaos attacked and destroyed Crackle, and in Main Phase 2, Vasquez banished Whisker Blitzclique face-down with the effect of Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos. With just one card left in his hand, Ochoa conceded.

A slow start for both players escalates quickly, and Nathaniel Vasquez manages to take the first victory in Duel 1!

Duel Two

Ochoa went first, but once again ended his turn without making a play! In the End Phase, Vasquez activated the effect of Griffoh by discarding it and Set Mind Shuffle from his Deck. He flipped it up and activated its effect, but lost out to Vasquez’s Dominus Purge.

Vasquez drew Ragged Records of Rites and added it to his hand of Dominus Impulse, Soul Resonator, Branded in High Spirits, and Celtic Mystic.

In the Draw Phase, he activated Branded in High Spirit and revealed Soul Resonator from his hand. Then he sent Despian Quaeritis from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and added Fallen of the White Dragon from his Deck to his hand. He Special Summoned Fallen of the White Dragon in his Main Phase by sending Albion from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and then Special Summoned Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous from his Deck with Fallen of the White Dragon’s effect. He then Tuned his 2 monsters together to Synchro Summon PSY-Framelord Omega. He used its effect to banish it until his next Standby Phase along with a Droll & Lock Bird in Ochoa’s hand. Vasquez used Mind Shuffle’s effect to add Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his Deck to his hand and discard it. He activated the Skull Archfiend’s effect by sending Light and Darkness Ritual from his Deck to his Graveyard, but Ochoa Chained Droll & Lock Bird, preventing Vasquez from adding a card from his Deck to his hand. Vasquez used the effect of the Light and Darkness Ritual in his Graveyard to return it to his hand along with the Skull Archfiend. He then Set two cards to his back row and entered his End Phase. He Set The Fallen & The Virtuous from his Deck with Albion’s effect and returned Incredible Ecclesia from his Graveyard to his hand with Incredible Ecclesia’s effect.

Ochoa drew a card and then Normal Summoned Surge Blitzclique. He then activated The Fallen & The Virtuous by sending Albion from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard, targeting Mind Shuffle for destruction. He Chained Mind Shuffle’s effect, followed by The Fallen & The Virtuous. He sent Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard to destroy Surge with The Fallen & The Virtuous and then added Black Chaos from his Deck to his hand and discarded Skull Archfiend with Mind Shuffle’s effect before the Mind Shuffle was destroyed. In a new Chain, he activated Skull Archfiend’s effect by sending Light and Darkness Ritual from his Deck to his Graveyard and added Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos from his Deck to his hand. Ochoa ended his turn with just 1 card in his hand and no cards on his field, and used the effect of the Albion in his Graveyard to Set The Fallen & The Virtuous from his Deck.

Vasquez drew a card and then Omega returned to his field, while Droll & Lock Bird returned from banishment to Ochoa’s hand. Vasquez then used his Omega’s effect to once again banish it along with a Droll & Lock Bird in Ochoa’s hand. Vasquez then returned the Light and Darkness Ritual and a Skull Archfiend from his Graveyard to his hand using the Ritual’s effect, and then activated the Ritual and banished Quaeritis from his Graveyard to Special Summon Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos. He activated its effect to add The Fallen & The Virtuous from his Graveyard to his hand and then activated its other effect to banish Ochoa’s face-down card. Vasquez activated Ragged Records of Rites next, revealing Light and Darkness Ritual to add Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness from his Deck to his hand. He Ritual Summoned it with Light and Darkness Ritual by banishing Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon from his Graveyard. Next, he Special Summoned Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his Graveyard by returning a Surge from Ochoa’s Graveyard along with a Mind Shuffle and Griffoh in his own Graveyard back to the Deck. He entered his Battle Phase, and then direct attacks from Vasquez’s 3 monsters wiped out all of Ochoa’s Life Points!
