There are eight Duelists remaining in the World Qualifying Points Playoff! This round, we have Gabriel Idris Braithwaite facing off against Mario Angelo De Micco. Each of these Duelists is piloting the Kewl Tune strategy, which has proven to be a popular choice in the Playoff. The winner of this match will move on to the next round, one step closer to earning his invite to the World Championship!

Duel 1

De Micco opened with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, JJ “Kewl Tune”, Fydraulis Harmonia, Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, and Kewl Tune Mix. 

Braithwaite won the die roll and chose to go first! He began by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Cue and activating its effect, but De Micco Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, Braithwaite used Cue and Effect Veiler from hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker! He activated Cue’s effect to banish Duelist Genesis and return Fydraulis Harmonia to the top of De Micco’s Deck, as well as Track Maker’s effect to search for Kewl Tune Reco. Next, Braithwaite activated JJ “Kewl Tune”, then used his additional Normal Summon to bring out Reco! He activated its effect to search for Kewl Tune Rotary, as De Micco Chained the effect of Harmonia, Special Summoning it, sending Golden Cloud Beast – Malong to the Graveyard, and destroying Braithwaite’s Reco. In the following Chain, De Micco activated the effect of Malong, returning Track Maker to Braithwaite’s Extra Deck. 

Next, Braithwaite activated the effect of Kewl Tune Rotary, Normal Summoning it. He activated the effect of JJ, Tributing Rotary, but De Micco Chained the effect of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, destroying JJ before Braithwaite could resolve its effect! Braithwaite Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn. 

De Micco started off by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Mix, but when he activated its effect, he was met by Braithwaite’s Dominus Purge! De Micco then activated JJ “Kewl Tune”, and used its effect to Tribute Harmonia and search for Kewl Tune Cue. De Micco then Normal Summoned Cue and activated its effect. Without any additional ways to deter De Micco from building a board, Braithwaite conceded the first Duel.

Duel 2

De Micco opened with Mulcharmy Purulia, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Kewl Tune Mix, Kewl Tune Cue, and Kewl Tune Rotary.

Braithwaite chose to go first! During the Standby Phase, De Micco activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia. Braithwaite began his turn by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Reco, allowing De Micco to draw Illusion Gate, but when Braithwaite activated its effect, Demi Chained the effect of Ash Blossom. Braithwaite ended his turn with just Reco on the board! 

De Micco drew Infinite Impermanence for turn! He started by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Mix and activating its effect, but was met by the effect of Braithwaite’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Next, he activated the effect of Kewl Tune Rotary, revealing Cue in his hand, then Normal Summoned Cue and activated its effect, as Braithwaite Chained the effect of Fydraulis Harmonia! Braithwaite Special Summoned Harmonia, destroyed De Micco’s Cue, and sent Golden Cloud Beast – Malong to the Graveyard, as De Micco Special Summoned Kewl Tune Reco from the Deck. De Micco searched for Kewl Tune Mix, as Braithwaite activated the effect of Malong to return Reco to De Micco’s hand. 

Here, De Micco activated Illusion Gate, destroying Braithwaite’s monsters and Special Summoning Reco to his side of the field! De Micco used Reco, as well as Rotary from his hand, to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, and Braithwaite Chained the effect of Kewl Tune Clip! Braithwaite used Reco and Clip to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS, and as a result didn’t have any monsters in his hand, so De Micco could not resolve the effect of Rotary! De Micco resolved Track Maker’s effect to search for Kewl Tune Synchro, then in the following Chain, Braithwaite used Clip’s effect to banish Kewl Tune B2B from De Micco’s Extra Deck! 

Next, with Braithwaite’s RS increasing the monsters of all monsters on De Micco’s side of the field, De Micco used Track Maker and Mix to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon! De Micco activated the effect of Mix, destroying Braithwaite’s RS, as Braithwaite Chained the effect of RS to negate the effect of De Micco’s Zalen. De Micco proceeded to the Battle Phase and attacked Braithwaite’s Life Points directly with Zalen and Mix, then activated Kewl Tune Synchro, allowing him to search for Kewl Tune Cue, then use Cue and Mix to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix! He activated Cue’s effect to banish Kewl Tune Mix and return Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to the top of Braithwaite’s Deck, then attacked directly with Remix. De Micco finally Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Braithwaite drew Ash Blossom for turn, and with no other cards in hand or his side of the field, he conceded.

De Micco is moving on to the next round of the Worlds Qualifying Points Playoff, and is one Duel away from earning his invitation to the World Championship!
