For our Round 6 Advanced Format Feature Match at YCS Montréal, we have Kevin Zuger facing off against Alexander Papadakis! Zuger, from Switzerland, is piloting the Kewl Tune Deck, while Papadakis is using the Blitzclique strategy. Both Decks have been extremely popular so far this weekend, and these Duelists have piloted them to impressive 5-0 records. Which Duelist will keep their perfect record in tact? Let’s find out! It’s time to Duel! 

Duel 1

Zuger opened with Infinite Impermanence, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Kewl Tune Reco, Pot of Desires, and Kewl Tune Synchro. 

Papadakis won the die roll and chose to go first! He started by Normal Summoning Emi Blitzclique, then activated the effect of Surge Blitzclique, destroying Emi and Special Summoning Surge. Papadakis then activated the effect of Whisker Blitzclique, Special Summoning it and Grain Blitzclique from hand and destroying Whisker. In the following Chain, Papadakis activated the effects of Surge and Emi; however, Zuger used the effects of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Infinite Impermanence to negate the effects of both of Papadakis’ monsters. Papadakis then ended his turn.

Zuger drew Kewl Tune Rotary for turn. He activated the effect of Rotary, revealing Reco, then Normal Summoned Rotary. He then used Rotary and Reco to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker! Zuger activated Track Maker’s effect as Chain Link 1 and Rotary’s effect as Chain Link 2; Papadakis activated the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring as Chain Link 3, negating Rotary’s effect, and Zuger resolved Track Maker’s effect to search for JJ “Kewl Tune”. He activated JJ, then activated Kewl Tune Synchro, searching for Kewl Tune Cue. Zuger Normal Summoned Cue and activated its effect; Papadakis knew that he could not stop Zuger from building a full board of Kewl Tune monsters, and conceded. 

Duel 2

Zuger opened the second Duel with Effect Veiler, Kewl Tune Clip, Kewl Tune Rotary, Duelist Genesis, and Fydraulis Harmonia. 

Papadakis simply Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Zuger drew another Kewl Tune Rotary for turn! He activated the effect of Rotary, revealing Harmonia, then Normal Summoned Rotary. He used Rotary and Harmonia to Synchro Summon Visas Amritara, then activated the effect of Rotary, but Papadakis Chained Dominus Purge! Next, Zuger activated Duelist Genesis, searching for Synchro Overtake. He then activated Overtake, Special Summoned Kewl Tune Mix, and activated its effect to search for Kewl Tune Cue, as Papadakis used the effect of Crackle Blitzclique to destroy Mix. Zuger followed up by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Cue, Special Summoning Kewl Tune Reco from the Deck and searching for another copy of Mix. On resolution, Papadakis activated Blitzclique Alternator, returning Crackle to the Deck to search for Surge Blitzclique. Papadakis then activated the effect of Whisker Blitzclique in hand, Special Summoning it and Surge, then destroying both Cue and Reco. This allowed Papadakis to trigger the effect of Surge Blitzclique, searching for Emi Blitzclique. He activated the effect of Emi, Special Summoning it and destroying Amritara! Zuger then ended his turn. 

Papadakis started off his turn by activating Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb! He used its effect to Special Summon a Token to Zuger’s side of the field and search for another copy of Surge. He then activated Surge’s effect, destroying Zuger’s Token and Special Summoning Surge to the field. Before Papadakis could enter the Battle Phase, Zuger activated the effect of Effect Veiler, negating the effect of Papadakis’ Whisker. Zuger followed up by activating the effect of Kewl Tune Clip, and Papadakis Chained Alternator’s effect, returning Surge to the Deck and searching for another copy of Whisker Blitzclique. Meanwhile, Zuger resolved Clip’s effect, and used Clip and Kewl Tune Mix to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker. Zuger used Clip to banish a card from Papadakis’ Extra Deck, Mix’s effect to destroy Whisker, and Track Maker’s effect to search for Kewl Tune Synchro. In a new Chain, Papadakis searched for both Blitzclique Alternator and Grain Blitzclique. 

Finally, Papadakis activated the effect of Whisker Blitzclique, Special Summoning multiple Blitzclique monsters from his hand to the field and destroying Zuger’s Track Maker. WIthout a way to defend his Life Points, Zuger conceded. 

Duel 3

Zuger opened the third Duel with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Fydraulis Harmonia, Effect Veiler, and two copies of Kewl Tune Synchro. In the Draw Phase, he activated Kewl Tune Synchro, searching for Kewl Tune Cue. He proceeded to Main Phase, Normal Summoned Cue, and activated its effect, to which Papadakis Chained the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Zuger activated Kewl Tune Synchro as Chain LInk 3, searching for Rotary, then using Rotary and Cue to Synchro Summon Track Maker, then resolved Cue’s effect to Special Summon Ghost Ogre from hand, not allowing Papadakis to draw a card with the effect of Fuwalos! Zuger looked at Papadakis’ hand of The Fallen & The Virtuous, Whisker Blitzclique, and two copies of Surge Blitzclique; searched for both JJ “Kewl Tune” and Kewl Tune Synchro; then looked at the top two cards of Papadakis’ Deck, banishing Pot of Extravagance and returning Dominus Purge to the top. From here, Zuger activated JJ, then used its effect, Tributing Ghost Ogre to search for Kewl Tune Reco. He Normal Summoned Reco and searched for Clip, then Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Papadakis started his turn by activating the effect of Surge Blitzclique, targeting Reco. Zuger Chained Kewl Tune Synchro, Papadakis Chained Dominus Purge, Zuger activated the effect of Kewl Tune Clip, and Papadakis activated The Fallen & The Virtuous as Chain Link 4, targeting Kewl Tune Track Maker. As the Chain resolved, Track Maker was destroyed, and Zuger used Clip and Reco to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS. Zuger activated Clip’s effect, banishing Albion the Branded Dragon from Papadakis’ Extra Deck. At this point, Papadakis did not have any ways to trigger the effects of Surge or Whisker, and conceded.

Zuger wins the Match and improves to 6-0 at YCS Montréal!
