Farukh Bhatti from Montclair, New Jersey and Akshay Vashisht from Ottawa, Ontario both currently have 3-1 records in the Advanced Main Event at YCS Montréal, and now they’re facing off against one another in this Round 5 Feature Match. Bhatti is using a 60-card Mitsurugi Deck that includes the Adventure engine, an Azamina engine, and a suite of cards revolving around Light and Darkness Ritual. Vashisht is using a Deck that is more focused around Light and Darkness Ritual from Chaos Origins. Only one of these Duelists can win this round. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Bhatti opened up Duel 1 with Droll & Lock Bird, Skull Archfiend of Chaos, Forbidden Droplet, Nightmare Hands, and Fleeting Phantom Mask Master. He shook his head in disappointment, Set Forbidden Droplet and Nightmare Hands, and then ended his turn. In the End Phase, Bhatti activated the effect of Griffoh by discarding it and placed Mind Shuffle from his Deck into his back row face-down. He flipped it and then used its effect to add Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his Deck to his hand and discard it. He used the Skull Archfiend’s effect by sending Light and Darkness Ritual from his Deck to his Graveyard and added Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos from his Deck to his hand.

Vashisht drew a card and then activated the effect of Mind Shuffle in his Draw Phase. He added Celtic Mystic from his Deck to his hand and discarded Mind Shuffle. He entered his Main Phase and then Normal Summoned the Celtic Mystic and activated its effect. Bhatti Chained Forbidden Droplet by sending Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his hand to his Graveyard. The Droplet resolved to negate the Mystic’s effect, and Bhatti used the effect of Skull Archfiend of Chaos. He sent Mitsurugi Mirror from his Deck to his Graveyard and added Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi from his Deck to his hand. Next, Vashisht used his Skull Archfiend’s effect in the Graveyard to Special Summon it by returning all 3 cards in Bhatti’s Graveyard to his Deck. He sent Mystic and Skull Archfiend to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Chaos Angel and used its effect to banish Bhatti’s face-down Nightmare Hands. Next, Vashisht used Light and Darkness Ritual’s effect in his Graveyard to return the Ritual along with Skull Archfiend from his Graveyard to his hand. He activated the effect of Albion the Shrouded Dragon in his hand next, by sending Fallen of the White Dragon from his Deck to his Graveyard. He returned Albion to the bottom of his Deck and then drew a card, prompting Bhatti to activate the effect of Droll & Lock Bird. Vashisht activated Light and Darkness Ritual. He banished Griffoh from his Graveyard to Special Summon Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos from his hand, and used his Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos’s effect to return Light and Darkness Ritual from his Graveyard to his hand. He attacked directly with his Ritual Monster and his Chaos Angel, dropping Bhatti down to 1700 Life Points. Vashisht activated Super Polymerization by discarding Super Polymerization while still in the Battle Phase! He fused his 2 monsters together to Summon Mudragon of the Swamp and then a direct attack from Mudragon ended the Duel!

Duel Two

Bhatti opened up Duel 2 with WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils, Futsu no Mitama no Mitsurugi, Dominus Impulse, The Hallowed Azamina, and Magicians’ Souls.

He entered his Main Phase and activated The Hallowed Azamina, Chaining WANTED from his hand. He added Diabellstar the Black Witch from his Deck to his hand and then sent WANTED to the Graveyard to Special Summon Azamina Mu Rcielago from his Extra Deck with The Hallowed Azamina. He used Rcielago’s effect to add WANTED from his Deck to his hand and then sent Rcielago to the Graveyard to Special Summon Diabellstar from his hand. He used Diabellstar’s effect to Set Deception of the Sinful Spoils from his Deck. He activated the effect of The Hallowed Azamina in his Graveyard to return it to his hand by returning Rcielago from his Graveyard to the Extra Deck. Next, he activated The Hallowed Azamina and sent WANTED from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon Azamina Ilia Silvia from his Extra Deck. He Special Summoned Magicians’ Souls from his hand next by sending Black Chaos from his Deck to his Graveyard. Then, he activated the effect of Souls by sending Deception from his field and Dominus Impulse from his hand to the Graveyard. He drew another Impulse and a Foolish Burial. Next, he sent Souls to the Graveyard to Link Summon Relinquished Anima and sent Anima and Diabellstar to the Graveyard to Link Summon Cross Sheep. He activated Foolish Burial next, sending Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated its effect by sending Mitsurugi Mirror from his Deck to his Graveyard and added Habakiri to his hand. He activated Habakiri’s effect to Special Summon Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji from his Deck and Tributed it. He used Saji’s effect to add Mitsurugi Ritual from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and Ritual Summoned Habakiri from his hand by Tributing Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa and Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi from his Deck. He used Kusanagi’s effect to return Mitsurugi Ritual from his Graveyard to his hand and then activated the Ritual again. He Tributed Futsu to Special Summon Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi from his Deck. He then used Futsu’s effect and Chained the effect of Mirror in his Graveyard. He returned Mirror to his Deck and added it to his hand with Futsu’s effect. Next, he activated Mirror and Tributed Habakiri to Special Summon Futsu from his Graveyard Linked to Cross-Sheep. He Special Summoned Habakiri back to his field and added Mitsurugi Prayers from his Deck to his hand. He used Cross-Sheep’s effect to draw 2 cards and then discard Rite of Aramasir and Fateful Adventure, then Special Summon Magicians’ Souls from his Graveyard with Cross-Sheep’s effect since it was also linked to Silvia. Next, Bhatti sent Habakiri and Futsu to the Graveyard to Link Summon S:P Little Knight and sent Souls and Cross-Sheep to the Graveyard to Link Summon Protectcode Talker. He activated Prayers by Tributing Murakumo next. He added Aramasa from his Deck to his hand, took 800 points of damage, and Special Summoned Kusanagi from his Graveyard with Prayers’s effect. He then Special Summoned Murakumo back to his field and added Mitsurugi Great Purification from his Deck to his hand with its effect. He sent Protectcode and Kusanagi to the Graveyard to Link Summon Firewall Dragon. He then banished Cross-Sheep and Anima from the Graveyard to Special Summon Protectcode linked to Firewall. He used Firewall Dragon’s effect to return Black Chaos from his Graveyard to his hand, then activated its effect by discarding it to place Mind Shuffle from his Deck face-up to his field. He then sent Firewall from his field and Aramasa from his hand to the Graveyard to Link Summon Zenna’s Deceiving Doll Maidens. He used its effect to send Fleeting Phantom Mask Master from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his Graveyard next, by returning Black Chaos, Rite of Aramesir, and Fateful Adventure from his Graveyard to his Deck. He then sent Murakumo and Skull Archfiend to the Graveyard to Link Summon Dyna Mondo. He activated the effect of the Fleeting Phantom in his Graveyard next. He banished Prayers from his Graveyard to Special Summon Fleeting Phantom from his Graveyard and used its effect to send Water Enchantress of the Temple from his Deck to his Graveyard. He banished Water Enchantress from his Graveyard to add Rite of Aramesir from his Deck to his hand and then sent Dyna Mondo, Fleeting Phantom, Protectcode, and Zenna’s Deceiving Doll Maidens to the Graveyard to Link Summon Charmer Quartet in Bloom. He activated Rite of Aramesir to Special Summon an Adventurer Token next, and placed Fateful Adventure face-up on his field. He then used Charmer Quartet’s effect to Special Summon Firewall Dragon and Dyna Mondo from his Graveyard, then used Fateful Adventure’s effect to add Dracoback, the Rideable Dragon to his hand. He then activated Fateful Adventure’s other effect to add Wandering Gryphon Ride from his Deck to his hand and discard Dracoback. He used Dracoback’s effect to equip it to the Adventurer Token. Next, he banished WANTED from his Graveyard to put Deception from his Graveyard on the bottom of his Deck and draw Mulcharmy Purulia. He Set Dominus Impulse and Great Purification and then ended his turn.

Vashisht drew a card and then activated Super Polymerization in the Draw Phase by discarding Fydraulis Harmonia from his hand. He fused Silvia with Little Knight to Summon Mudragon of the Swamp and then used Mudragon’s effect to change the Mudragon’s Attribute to DARK. Bhatti Chained Mind Shuffle to add Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his Deck to his hand and discard it. In a new Chain, he used Skull Archfiend’s effect by sending Light and Darkness Ritual from his Deck to his Graveyard and added Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos from his Deck to his hand. While still in the Draw Phase, Bhatti activated the effect of Dyna Mondo by Tributing it, and Vashisht Chained the effect of a Harmonia in his hand; but Bhatti Chained a face-down Impulse to negate the effect of Harmonia and destroy it. Dyna Mondo’s effect resolved to Special Summon Futsu. Next, Vashisht activated the effect of Fallen of the White Dragon to Special Summon it from his hand by sending Albion the Branded Dragon from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He activated the Fallen’s effect on the field, and Bhatti Chained Futsu’s effect to Special Summon Murakumo. Vashisht Special Summoned Incredible Ecclesia, and then Murakumo’s effect activated in a new Chain to destroy all monsters on Vashisht’s field! Vashisht activated the effect of Black Chaos by discarding it from his hand next, and placed Mind Shuffle face-up on his field. Next, he activated Ragged Records of Rites. Bhatti activated Murakumo’s effect to negate it, and Vashisht had no cards left in his hand that he could discard to make sure the effect of Ragged Records of Rites resolved. Vashisht Chained the effect of Mind Shuffle, and Bhatti negated it by activating Great Purification. With no moves left, Vashisht finally conceded.

Duel Three

Bhatti opened up Duel 3 with Droll & Lock Bird, Foolish Burial, Pot of Sloth, WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils, and Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi. He activated WANTED in his Draw Phase and added Diabellstar from his Deck to his hand. In the Standby Phase, Vashisht activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia. Bhatti activated Foolish Burial in his Main Phase, sending Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his Deck to his Graveyard. He activated its effect by sending Mitsurugi Mirror from his Deck to his Graveyard and added Habakiri from his Deck to his hand. He activated Habakiri’s effect to Special Summon Saji from his Deck and Tribute it. He then used Saji’s effect to add Mitsurugi Ritual from his Deck to his hand. He activated the Ritual and Tributed Habakiri from his hand to Special Summon Murakumo from his Deck. He activated the effect of Habakiri and Chained Mirror’s effect in the Graveyard to return it to his Deck. He added Mitsurugi Prayers from his Deck to his hand with Habakiri’s effect. Next, he activated Prayers by Tributing Murakumo. He added Aramasa from his Deck to his hand, took 800 points of damage, and Special Summon Saji from his Graveyard. Next, he used Murakumo’s effect. He Special Summoned it and added Mitsurugi Mirror from his Deck to his hand. He sent Saji to his Graveyard to Special Summon Diabellstar from his hand next, allowing Vashisht to draw a card from Purulia’s effect. Bhatti used Diabellstar’s effect to Set Deception from his Deck and then flipped it face-up. He banished Diabellstar from his field to Special Summon Dark Magician of Destruction from his Extra Deck and used the Magician’s effect to add Magicians’ Souls from his Deck to his hand. He then activated Deception’s effect by Tributing Aramasa from his hand. Vashisht Chained Ash Blossom’s effect to negate it, and when Bhatti Chained Murakumo’s effect to try to negate Ash Blossom’s effect, Vashisht discarded Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness to make sure his Ash Blossom’s effect resolved. Bhatti used Aramasa’s effect in a new Chain to add Futsu to his hand and then he activated Mirror and Tributed Futsu to Special Summon Habakiri. He used Futsu’s effect to add Prayers from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned Souls from his hand by sending Black Chaos from his Deck to his Graveyard, allowing Vashisht to draw another card from Purulia’s effect. Next, Bhatti activated the Souls’s effect by sending Deception and Pot of Sloth to the Graveyard. He drew 2 cards and then sent Souls to the Graveyard to Link Summon Relinquished Anima. He sent Anima and Habakiri to the Graveyard to Link Summon Cross-Sheep linked to Murakumo and then used the effect of the Skull Archfiend in his Graveyard. He Special Summoned it linked to Cross-Sheep by sending all 3 cards in Vashisht’s Graveyard back to his Deck. He drew 2 cards and then discarded 2 cards with Cross-Sheep’s effect. Next, he banished WANTED from his Graveyard and returned Deception from his Graveyard to the bottom of his Deck to draw another card. He sent Skull Archfiend and Cross-Sheep to the Graveyard to Link Summon Protectcode and then used Protectcode and Dark Magician of Destruction to Link Summon Firewall. He Special Summoned Protectcode from his Graveyard Linked to Firewall by banishing Cross-Sheep and Anima from his Graveyard and then used Firewall’s effect to return Black Chaos from his Graveyard to his hand. He activated its effect by discarding it and placed Mind Shuffle from his Deck face-up on his field. He used Mind Shuffle to add Griffoh from his Deck to his hand and discard a Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Next, he activated Ragged Records and revealed Light and Darkness Ritual from his Deck to add Griffoh from his Deck to his hand. He sent Firewall from his field and Griffoh from his hand to the Graveyard to Link Summon Zenna’s Deceiving Doll Maidens and used its effect to send Nibiru, the Primal Being from his Deck to his Graveyard. Next, he used Protectcode and the Deceiving Doll Maidens as Link Materials to Summon Charmer Quartet, and used its effect to Special Summon Firewall Dragon and Nibiru to the field. He Set 3 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.

Vashisht drew a card and Bhatti activated Mind Shuffle in the Draw Phase.

Vashisht Chained the effect of Purulia in his hand ,and then Bhatti added Skull Archfiend from his Deck to his hand and discarded it. He used the Skull Archfiend’s effect by sending Light and Darkness Ritual from his Deck to his Graveyard and added Dark Magician of Chaos – Black Chaos from his Deck to his hand. Next, Vashisht activated the effect of Fallen of the White Dragon to Special Summon it by sending Titaniklad the Ash Dragon from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He activated the Fallen’s effect on the field, and Bhatti negated the effect with Murakumo. Next, Vashisht Special Summoned Incredible Ecclesia from his hand, and Vashisht Chained Mitsurugi Prayers, Tributing Murakumo. He Special Summoned Futsu from his Graveyard and took 800 points of damage. He Special Summoned Murakumo from his Graveyard with Murakumo’s effect and added a Prayers to his hand, then used Murakumo’s effect to wipe out the monsters on Vashisht’s field! Vashisht activated the effect of Black Chaos next to place Mind Shuffle face-up on his field, and used Mind Shuffle’s effect to add Skull Archfiend from his Deck to his hand and discard it. He used the Skull Archfiend’s effect by sending Light and Darkness Ritual from his Deck to his Graveyard, and Bhatti Chained Droll & Lock Bird. Vashisht finally conceded, unable to defeat Bhatti’s field.
