We’re in the second half of today’s competition, and things are heating up! We’ve got Jack Darling, from Oshawa, ON, playing Kewl Tune. His opponent is Pradeep Charath, from here in Montréal, playing a Deck that can only be described as Chain Burn’s little brother, using controlling traps and the combo of Banquet of Millions with D.D. Dynamite to quickly end a Duel. Both Duelists have 3-1 records, on pace for the Day 2 cut.

Duel 1

Charath won the roll and played first, with a hand of Waking the Dragon; Lilith, Lady of Lament; Mahaama the Fairy Dragon; and two copies of Paleozoic Marrella.

He Normal Summoned Lilith and used its effect, Tributing it to reveal three copies of Banquet of Millions, and Set one of them. He Set the rest of his Trap Cards to finish the turn.

Darling activated Kewl Tune Synchro, and Charath Chained Banquet of Millions. He banished his entire Extra Deck, and Darling had to temporarily do the same. Kewl Tune Synchro resolved, adding Kewl Tune Cue to his hand. He Set a back row card. At the end of the Main Phase, Charath flipped Marrella, and Darling used Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Charath simply flipped up another Marrella, then Chained the Marrella in his Graveyard. He Special Summoned one Marrella, then sent Transaction Rollback to the Graveyard. At the end of the turn, Darling’s banished Extra Deck cards came back from the Banquet.

Charath drew Gravedigger’s Trap Hole. He Set it.

Darling Normal Summoned Cue, which let him Special Summon Kewl Tune Rotary. He used both monsters to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker, and activated the effects of all three Monster Cards. Charath responded with Gravedigger’s Trap Hole to negate Cue. Track Maker and Rotary added Kewl Tune Synchro and JJ “Kewl Tune” to his hand, and he saw Charath’s hand. Darling played JJ, then Kewl Tune Synchro to add Kewl Tune Reco to his hand. He used JJ’s additional Normal Summon to play Reco, which added Kewl Tune Mix to his hand. He used Track Maker with the Mix in his hand to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Loudness War. Track Maker’s effect activated, and Charath responded with Transaction Rollback, paying half his Life Points and targeting Gravedigger’s Trap Hole. Darling Chained Loudness War, banishing Rotary to return Gravedigger’s Trap Hole to the Deck! Without its target, Transaction Rollback failed to do anything. Track Maker returned Charath’s Set Waking the Dragon to his hand. Darling used JJ, Tributing Reco to Special Summon Mix from his Deck. Mix added Cue to his hand, and he used Mix and Cue to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix. Remix attacked and destroyed Marrella.

Charath drew Trap Holic. He Set both his Trap Cards.

Darling Normal Summoned Ash Blossom. Charath flipped Trap Holic, targeting his Waking the Dragon. Darling took the bait and responded with Loudness War, banishing Reco to destroy the Set card first, to prevent Trap Holic from resolving. However, by destroying Waking the Dragon, Charath could Special Summon any monster! Or at least, he could, if Darling didn’t have another Ash Blossom in hand to negate it.

Darling continued, using JJ to Tribute the on-field Ash Blossom and Special Summon Reco. He added Mix to his hand, then used JJ to Normal Summon Mix. He added Rotary to his hand. He used Rotary’s effect to Normal Summon Rotary, and used Rotary and Loudness War to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon. Rotary revealed Darling’s hand again, and Darling confirmed Charath’s Mahaama the Fairy Dragon’s effects. Darling Synchro Summoned Kewl Tune RS and attacked enough damage to win in one shot, before Mahaama could be used!

Duel 2

Charath began the second Duel with two copies of Wannabee!, Kashtira Fenrir, Trap Holic, and Mahaama.

Charath Special Summoned Fenrir and used its effect to add Kashtira Riseheart to his hand. He Special Summoned Riseheart, then used its effect, banishing another Fenrir from his Deck. Darling Chained Fydraulis Harmonia! He Special Summoned Harmonia and sent Malong to the Graveyard, then destroyed Fenrir. Riseheart banished the top three cards from Darling’s Deck face-down. In a new Chain, Malong returned Riseheart to the hand. Charath Set Riseheart and Trap Holic. In the End Phase, he activated Wannabee’s effect, excavating five cards including Paleozoic Marrella, Transaction Rollback, and Gravedigger’s Trap Hole. He Set Marrella.

In Darling’s Draw Phase, Charath flipped Trap Holic on his Marrella, then Chained the Marrella. Darling negated Marrella with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, but Trap Holic was still able to destroy the targeted Marrella and Set Waking the Dragon. Darling Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Mix, adding Rotary to his hand. He used Rotary’s effect, revealing Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion to Normal Summon the Rotary. He used Rotary and Ghost Belle to Synchro Summon Track Maker. Rotary let him see Charath’s hand and add JJ “Kewl Tune” to his hand, and Track Maker added Cue to his hand. He played JJ and Normal Summoned Cue, which let him add Kewl Tune Clip to his hand. He used Cue and Track Maker to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon. He activated Cue’s effect to look at Charath’s next two cards: Wannabee! and Waking the Dragon. He banished Wannabee and left Waking on top. Darling used Reco and Mix to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS, and Mix’s effect destroyed Riseheart. Darling sent RS to attack directly for 4100 damage. Charath Special Summoned Mahaama, and dealt 4100 damage back to Darling! Zalen attacked and destroyed Mahaama, and Harmonia attacked directly. In the End Phase, Charath activated his second Wannabee from his hand. Darling Chained D.D. Crow targeting Marrella, and then used Zalen to negate Wannabee!’s effect.

Charath drew Waking the Dragon. He Set it along with his other copy of Waking.

Darling Normal Summoned Mix, adding Reco, and Synchro Summoned Kewl Tune Remix. He used Reco to destroy the older Waking the Dragon, forgetting that Charath had gotten a another copy with Trap Holic earlier! Charath Special Summoned Borrelend Dragon. Darling continued, using JJ to Normal Summon Clip. Then he used JJ’s other effect, Tributing Clip to Special Summon Rotary. He sent Kewl Tune RS to attack Borrelend for 1200 damage, leaving Charath with just 200 Life Points! Darling lamented his miscalculation, but soldiered on by Setting one card in his back row. He used Rotary and Harmonia for Visas Amritara in Defense Position.

Charath drew Lilith, and moved straight to the Battle Phase. Darling responded with Remix’s effect to Special Summon Cue and add Reco to his hand, then used Cue and Zalen to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune B2B in Attack Position. Borrelend destroyed B2B and Amritara in battle. In Main Phase 2, Charath Normal Summoned Lilith, and used its effect to reveal Gravedigger’s Trap Hole and two copies of Secret Barrel, getting a Secret Barrel. Then, he used Borrelend to Xyz Summon Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis, and used its effect to return Kewl Tune RS to the Extra Deck.

Darling Normal Summoned Reco, adding Mix. He used both monsters to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS. Reco and Mix destroyed TY-PHON and Secret Barrel, giving an opening for Kewl Tune RS to attack and end the Match!
