We’re in the final Swiss Round here on Day 1 of Genesys Format at YCS Montréal! Duelists are eager to see which of them will qualify for Day 2, so they’ll need to be at the top of their game. For this round’s feature match, we have two Duelists that each have 4-2 records. There’s a lot on the line for these Duelists, as a win will almost certainly ensure that they make it to Day 2, while a loss will likely take them out of the running. Luke Cullen Vincent is playing the Shaddoll Deck, while David Jonathan Green is playing his trusted Madolche strategy. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Vincent won the die roll and chose to go first! He opened with Mathematician, Light and Darkness RItual, Reeshaddoll Wendi, Shaddoll Squamata, and Void Unleashing.

During the Standby Phase, Green activated the effect of Mulcharmy Meowls. Vincent started by Normal Summoning Mathematician and sending Shaddoll Squamata to the Graveyard. He then used its effect to send Tohushaddoll Grysta to the Graveyard, and activated its effect to Fusion Summon El Shaddoll Meshachrer. He used Meshachrer’s effect to search for Lev Shaddoll Fusion, then activated it and sent Infernoid Evil to the Graveyard, allowing him to search for Void Apocalypse. Vincent then activated Void Unleashing, revealing Reeshaddoll Wendi in his hand to search for El Shaddoll Fusion and Shaddoll Schism and discard Wendi. This allowed him to activate Wendi’s effect to Special Summon Shaddoll Squamata to his field in face-down Defense Position. He next activated Void Apocalypse, sending Light and Darkness Ritual from his hand to the Graveyard to send Skull Archfiend of Chaos from his Deck to the Graveyard. Finally, he Special Summoned back the Skull Archfiend from the Graveyard by returning three cards from his Graveyard to the bottom of the Deck, then Set two cards and ended his turn.

Green started by activating the effect of Vernusylph of the Misty Seedlings, sending it and Madolche Messengelato from his hand to the Graveyard; Vincent Chained El Shaddoll Fusion, using his three monsters to Fusion Summon another El Shaddoll Meshachrer as Green searched for Madolche Anjelly and Special Summoned Madolche Messengelato from hand. Meanwhile, Vincent Special Summoned Shaddoll Squamata, searched for Magician of Dark Chaos – Black Chaos, and sent Reeshaddoll Wendi to the Graveyard, then used Wendi’s effect to Special Summon Shaddoll Dragon face-down. Green then Special Summoned Kumongous, the Sticky String Kaiju to Vincent’s side of the field by Tribuing Meshachrer, allowing Vincent to Special Summon Wendi face-up. Green followed up by activating Madolche Salon, then used his additional Normal Summon to bring out Madolche Anjelly. In response to the summon, Vincent activated Schism, banishing Wendi and Meshachrer from the Graveyard to Special Summon El Shaddoll Shekhinaga and banish Green’s Anjelly! Green activated the effect of Vernusylph of the Flourishing Hills, discarding it and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to search for another copy of Misty Seedlings then Special Summon Madolche Anjelly once again. However, when he activated its effect, Vincent Chained the effect of Shekhinaga, negating it! Without any other plays left, Green conceded. 

Duel 2

Green started his turn by Normal Summoning Madolche Magileine and searching for Madolche Petingcessoeur. He then Special Summoned Petingcessoeur from hand, and used its effect to bring out Madolche Puddingcess from the Deck! Next, he used Magileine and Puddingcess to Xyz Summon Madolche Teacher Glassouffle! He activated its effect, detaching Magileine, then used Glassoufle to Xyz Summon Madolche Puddingcess Chocolat-a-la-Mode. He used Chocolat-a-la-Mode’s effect to return Magileine to the Deck and Special Summon out Madolche Anjelly, then used Anjelly to bring out Madolche Hootcake. He used Hootcake’s effect to banish Glassoufle and Special Summon Madolche Messengelato, then used its effect to search for Madolche Chateau! 

Green activated Small World and searched for Herald of Orange Light, then activated Chateau and returned Anjelly to the Deck. He used the effect of Chocolat-a-la-Mode to bring out another copy of Messengelato, this time searching for Madolche Salon and activating it. He used Messengelato and Petingcessoeur to Xyz Summon Madolche Queen Tiaramisu, then used Tiaramisu to Xyz Summon Madolche Queen Tiarafraise! He used his additional Normal Summon to bring out another copy of Petingcessoeur, then used it and Messengelato to Xyz Summon another Madolche Teacher Glassouffle and ended his turn. 

Vincent opened with Void Unleashing, Fusion Deployment, Reeshaddoll Wendi, Armageddon Knight, and Book of Eclipse. He began his turn by activating Void Unleashing, revealing Weeshaddoll Wendi and searching for both Shaddoll Fusion and Shaddoll Schism then discarding Wendi. He activated the effect of the discarded Wendi, Special Summoning Shaddoll Hedgehog from his Deck face-down. Here, Green activated the effect of Tiarafraise, returning two Madolche monsters from his Graveyard to the hand and shuffling Shaddoll Hedgehog back to Vincent’s Deck. This allowed Green to Set Madolche Promenade to his backrow. Vincent then activated Shaddoll Fusion, sending Skull Archfiend of Chaos, Shaddoll Dragon, and Tohushaddoll Grysta to the Graveyard to bring out El Shaddoll Meshachrer! Green activated the effect of Herald of Orange Light as Chain Link 4 to negate the effect of Grysta, but Vincent still used the effects of Dragon and Skull Archfiend to destroy Promenade and search for Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness. Green next activated the effect of Glassouffle, returning Orange Light and Light and Darkness Ritual to the hand and Deck, respectively. 

Vincent used Meshachrer’s effect to search for Lev Shaddoll Fusion, then activated it and sent El Shaddoll Apkallone to the Graveyard. From there, he used Apkallone’s effect to search for El Shaddoll Fusion and discard Fusion Deployment. Vincent activated his other copy of Fusion Deployment, Special Summoning Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous from Deck. He then activated Lev Shaddoll Fusion’s other effect, sending Meshachrer to the Graveyard to Special Summon Apkallone! He used Apkallone’s effect to negate the effect of Madolche Chateau, then Special Summoned Grysta back from the Graveyard. He entered the Battle Phase and used Grysta to attack Chocolat-a-la-Mode, then Set three cards to his backrow and ended his turn.

Green started his turn by using Hootcake’s effect to banish Messengelato from the Graveyard to Special Summon Madolche Magileine! Here, Vincent activated Cartesia’s effect, using Grysta and Apkallone to Fusion Summon El Shaddoll Shekhinaga! He used Grysta’s effect to banish three monsters from his Graveyard and bring out another copy of Meshachrer, then used Grysta’s effect to search for and discard Shaddoll Hedgehog. He then used Hedgehog’s effect to search for Wendi. Green used his additional Normal Summon to bring out Madolche Petingcessoeur, then used Petingcessoeur and Magileine to Xyz Summon Madolche Queen Tiaramisu! In response to the summon, Vincent banished Wendi and Hedgehog from his Graveyard to bring out Reeshaddoll Wendikuruhu. Afterwards, Vincent activated El Shaddoll Fusion, using Cartesia and Wendi to bring out El Shaddoll Construct! He used their effects to send Shaddoll Beast to the Graveyard and Set Shaddoll Squamata face-down, and used Beast’s effect to draw a card. Vincent activated the effect of Wendikuruhu; Green Chained the effect of Glassouffle, but Vincent responded by using the effect of Shekhinaga to negate it! Vincent was able to resolve the effect of Wendikuruhu, flipping his Squamata face-up and Green’s Tiaramisu face-down, then activated Squamata’s effect in a new Chain to destroy Tiarafraise. With his back against the wall, Green activated Interrupted Kaiju Slumber, destroying all monsters on the field! He Special Summoned Kumongous, the Sticky String Kaiju to Vincent’s field and Gadarla, the Mystery Dust Kaiju to his own field, as Vincent added Shaddoll Fusion, El Shaddoll Fusion, and Shaddoll Squamata back to hand. He then entered the Battle Phase and destroyed Kumongous in battle before ending his turn.

Vincent drew Book of Eclipse for turn! He activated Shaddoll Fusion, using Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Light and Darkness and Shaddoll Squamata to Fusion Summon El Shaddoll Shekhinaga, then used Squamata to send Tohushaddoll Grysta to the Graveyard. He activated its effect, banishing three monsters from his Graveyard to bring out another copy of Meshachrer. He Special Summoned back Skull Archfiend of Chaos from the Graveyard by returning three monsters to the Deck. Finally, he used the effect of Schism to Fusion Summon Reeshaddoll Wendikuruhu and banish Gadarla! Vincent had more than enough monsters on the field to wipe out the rest of Green’s Life Points, so Green conceded.
