Welcome back to YCS Montréal! We’re kicking off our Advanced Format Duels with YCS Champion Steven Trifunoski. He’s here from Toronto with his Kewl Tune Deck, and he’s even been declared a Bounty Duelist! His opponent is Kishoak Ganesh, from here in Montréal. He’s hoping to take some of Trifunoski’s bounty Booster Packs with his Memento Deck!

Duel 1

Trifunoski narrowly won the dice roll and played first, with a hand of Kewl Tune Cue, Kewl Tune Synchro, Effect Veiler, Infinite Impermanence, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring.

He Normal Summoned Cue and used its effect to Special Summon Kewl Tune Rotary. Using both monsters, he Synchro Summoned Kewl Tune Track Maker. Track Maker added Kewl Tune Synchro to his hand. Rotary revealed Ganesh’s hand, full of spells and one Memento monster, then put JJ “Kewl Tune” in his hand. Cue’s effect revealed Mulcharmy Fuwalos and Mementotlan Fusion, and Trifunoski chose to banish the Fuwalos and leave the spell on top of the Deck. Trifunoski played Kewl Tune Synchro, adding Kewl Tune Mix to his hand. He played JJ “Kewl Tune” and Normal Summoned Mix, adding Cue back to his hand from the Graveyard. He Synchro Summoned Zalen the Shackled Dragon. He used JJ’s effect, Tributing Mix to Special Summon Reco, which put Mix in his hand. He Synchro Summoned Kewl Tune Remix, then Set Kewl Tune Synchro and Infinite Impermanence.

Ganesh played Radiant Typhoon Vision in his Draw Phase, and Trifunoski negated it with Ash Blossom. Ganesh then played Mementotlan Bone Party, and Trifunoski activated Remix’s effect, then Chained Zalen. Ganesh responded with Forbidden Droplet, sending Bone Party to the Graveyard. Droplet negated Zalen, Remix Special Summoned Reco and put Mix in Trifunoski’s hand, and Bone Party let Ganesh destroy his Mementotlan Shleepy to Special Summon Mementotlan Angwitch. He activated Angwitch and Shleepy’s effects, and Trifunoski activated Reco’s effect. Trifunoski then Chained Kewl Tune Synchro. He added Clip to his hand, then tuned Reco to Zalen for Kewl Tune B2B. Reco returned Rotary from the Graveyard to his hand. Ganesh’s effects let him send Mementotlan Ghattic to the Graveyard, then add Mementotlan Tatsunootoshigo to his hand. Ganesh Special Summoned Ghattic, which allowed B2B to return Track Maker to the field, combining it with Mix in his hand for Kewl Tune Loudness War. Mix’s effect destroyed Angwitch, and Track Maker returned Ghattic to the hand, while Ghattic got Shleepy from the Graveyard to Ganesh’s hand. Ganesh Special Summoned Shleepy and used its effect, and Trifunoski responded with Loudness War, banishing Mix to destroy Shleepy. Shleepy’s effect resolved, fusing Tatsunootoshigo and Ghattic from the hand into Mementotlan Twin Dragon, activating its effect. Trifunoski used his second B2B activation, then flipped Infinite Impermanence on Twin Dragon. Ganesh Chained Goblin Biker Grand Breakout, Tributing Twin Dragon to Special Summon Mementotlan Goblin. B2B brought Mix to the field, and Twin Dragon’s effect destroyed Goblin to add Mementotlan Dark Blade and Mementoal Tecuhtlica – Combined Creation to Ganesh’s hand. Mix’s effect added Reco to Trifunoski’s hand…

And now… we finally left the Draw Phase.

Ganesh Special Summoned Combined Creation by returning most of his monsters from the Graveyard to the Deck and Extra Deck. He Normal Summoned Dark Blade, and activated its effect to destroy it and Special Summon another Goblin. He used Goblin’s effect, destroying it to send Mementotlan Akihiron and Mementotlan Mace to the Graveyard. He activated his last card, the Mementotlan Fusion that Trifunoski’s Cue had left on top of the Deck last turn. He fused monsters from his Graveyard into  Mementomictlan Tecuhtlica – Creation King! He tried using its effect, but Trifunoski hit it with Veiler. Then, Trifunoski activated Clip’s effect. He Special Summoned it and Synchro Summoned Kewl Tune RS. Ganesh activated Combined Creation’s effect, but RS negated it. Then, Clip temporarily banished The Dragon that Devours the Dogma from Ganesh’s Extra Deck. Ganesh had his two giant Memento monsters, but he wasn’t going to win this turn, and he knew Trifunoski would be able to end things next turn. He conceded here!

Duel 2

Trifunoski began this Duel with Cue, Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Dominus Purge, Dominus Spark, and Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill.

Ganesh led with Pot of Prosperity, banishing just three cards from his Extra Deck, and Trifunoski hit it with Purge. Ganesh Set a back row card and passed.

Trifunoski drew PSY-Frame Driver. He Normal Summoned Cue, and Ganesh flipped Forbidden Droplet, sending Goblin Biker Grand Breakout to the Graveyard to negate Cue. Trifunoski attacked directly. He used Cue and Ghost Ogre from his hand to Synchro Summon Loudness War, and Cue’s effect revealed two copies of Ash Blossom from Ganesh’s Deck. He banished one and left the other on top of the Deck.

Ganesh drew the Ash Blossom and passed.

Trifunoski drew another Cue and Normal Summoned it, prompting Ash Blossom from Ganesh. Trifunoski used Loudness War’s effect, banishing Cue from the Graveyard to reveal Shleepy and Grand Breakout on top of Ganesh’s Deck, banishing the Shleepy and leaving Grand Breakout on top. Trifunoski attacked directly with Cue.

Ganesh passed.

Trifunoski drew Duelist Genesis. He used Cue to Tribute Summon PSY-Frame Driver, then played Duelist Genesis to add Kewl Tune Synchro to his hand. He played that to add Rotary to his hand. He used Rotary’s effect in hand to Normal Summon it.  He used Rotary and Mourner to Synchro Summon Track Maker, adding Kewl Tune Synchro and JJ “Kewl Tune” to his hand. He used Track Maker and Loudness War for B2B, and attacked with everything to end the Match!
