It’s Day 2 of the Advanced Format Main Event here at YCS Montréal! 128 talented Duelists qualified for Day 2, and are competing for a chance to play in the Top 8 Cut. Wilson Zhilong Zhou is playing the Kewl Tune Deck, while Arash William Moradi is playing the DoomZ Deck! Both players played extremely well on Day 1, finishing with 7-1 records. However, they’ll have to play well for the remaining 5 Swiss Rounds today for the best chance to make it to the Top 8. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Zhou opened the first Duel with Kewl Tune Rotary, Kewl Tune Mix, Kewl Tune Synchro, Kewl Tune Cue, and Effect Veiler. 

Moradi won the die roll and chose to go first! He began by activating DoomZ Raiders, then Chained the effect of /shifter! He destroyed DoomZ V Five – Amalthe to Special Summon DoomZ VII Seven – Elara, then Set DoomZ Destruction to his backrow and searched for DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea. He activated Drastea’s effect, destroying Elara, Special Summoning Drastea, and equipping it with DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G”. Finally, Moradi activated the effect of Drastea, allowing him to bring out DoomZ XII End – Drastrius! He then ended his turn.

Zhou drew Fydraulis Harmonia for turn. He started his turn by activating the effect of Rotary, Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Mix and activating its effect, but Moradi Chained Destruction, preventing Zhou from adding cards from his Deck to his hand! Zhou then Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.

Moradi started his turn by activating Plundered Power Patron Plane – Vidolia and using its effect to search for Power Patron DoomZ. He then activated the effect of Raiders, destroying Power Patron DoomZ and Special Summoning DoomZ V Five – Amalthe from the Deck. In the following Chain, Moradi activated the effects of Amalthe and Power Patron DoomZ; Zhou used the effect of Effect Veiler to negate Amalthe’s effect, and Moradi resolved Power Patron DoomZ’s effect to search for Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron. He activated Jupredo in the Pendulum Scale, then destroyed it and Amalthe to destroy Zhou’s Set card, then used Jupredo’s other effect to search for DoomZ Change! 

Moradi activated Change, then Chained the effect of Drastrius to destroy Change. This allowed Moradi to destroy DoomZ VII Seven – Elara from his Deck. In the following Chain, he Set DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” to his backrow, then added DoomZ V Five – Amalthe back to hand and Special Summoned it. Moradi activated DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” and equipped it to Zhou’s Mix, then destroyed it and Special Summoned back Elara from the Graveyard. Moradi equipped DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” to Elara, then proceeded to the Battle Phase, where he attacked Zhou’s Life Points directly with Drastrius, Amalthe, and Elara. Moradi activated the effect of Elara in the Battle Phase, but here, Zhou activated the effect of Fydraulis Harmonia! Zhou Special Summoned Harmonia, destroyed the Elara, and sent Wind Pegasus @Ignister to the Graveyard, leaving him with 1500 LP remaining. In Main Phase 2, Moradi activated Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus, sending Jupredo from his Extra Deck to the Graveyard to search for Medius the Pure! He Normal Summoned Medius, then used its effect to search for Vidolium the Unstable Power Patron of Unity. Moradi then used Medius and Amalthe to Xyz Summon Doomz Break – Diactorus! He used the effect of Diactorus destroy his own Raiders and Zhou’s Harmonia; this allowed Zhou to activate the effect of Wind Pegasus @Ignister in the Graveyard, but Moradi Chained the effect of Drastrius to negate it! Finally, Moradi used Diactorus to Xyz Summon DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio and search for another copy of Raiders, then destroyed the Graflareio and Special Summoned Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron from his Deck! With only Cue and Rotary in hand, Zhou realized he could not deal with Moradi’s Drastrius, and conceded the first Duel.

Duel 2

Zhou chose to go first in the second Duel! He opened with Kewl Tune Mix, Kewl Tune Reco, Kewl Tune Cue, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Kewl Tune Synchro. He started in the Draw Phase, activating Kewl Tune Synchro and searching for Kewl Tune Rotary. He used the effect of Rotary, allowing him to Normal Summon Cue and Special Summon Fydraulis Harmonia from the Deck. He then used Cue and Rotary to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker! Zhou activated the effects of his Kewl Tune monsters, looking at Moradi’s hand of Lightning Storm, DoomZ VII Seven – Elara, DoomZ V Five – Amalthe, and two copies of Droll & Lock Bird; searching for Kewl Tune Synchro and JJ “Kewl Tune”; then looking at the top two cards of Moradi’s Deck, banishing DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea and returning DoomZ V Five – Amalthe to the top of the Deck. On resolution, Moradi activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird. 

Next, Zhou Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Mix and added Cue from his Graveyard back to hand. He used Mix and Cue to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix, then activated JJ and used his additional Normal Summon to bring out Kewl Tune Reco and add Mix back to hand. Zhou then activated the effect of JJ, Tributing Harmonia and Special Summoning another copy of Reco! He used one copy of Reco and Track Maker to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon, then used the other Reco and Mix to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS. Finally, Zhou Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Moradi started his turn by activating Lightning Storm, attempting to destroy all of Zhou’s Spell and Trap Cards! Zhou Chained Kewl Tune Synchro, searching for Kewl Tune Cue as JJ was destroyed. Next, Moradi Normal Summoned DoomZ V Five – Amalthe and activated its effect. However, Zhou Chained the effect of Kewl Tune RS, negating Amalthe’s effect! Moradi had a hand full of monsters and couldn’t extend his turn any further, so he conceded. 

Duel 3

Zhou opened with Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Kewl Tune Cue, Lightning Storm, and Kewl Tune Rotary. 

During the Standby Phase, Zhou activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, but Moradi responded by activating the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Moradi began his turn by Normal Summoning Medius the Pure and activating its effect, Special Summoning Power Patron DoomZ from the Deck. He activated the Power Patron’s effect, using Medius to bring out Doomz Break – Diactorus. He used Diactorus to bring out DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio, and activated the effect of the destroyed Power Patron DoomZ, but Zhou Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Moradi followed up by using Graflareio’s effect to search for DoomZ Raiders, then used Raiders to destroy Graflareio and bring out DoomZ VII Seven – Elara. He activated the effects of his DoomZ monsters, Setting DoomZ Change to his backrow and Special Summoning DoomZ V Five – Amalthe, then searched for DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea. Moradi Xyz Summon Springans Merrymaker, then brought out Gigantic “Champion” Sargas and searched for Therion “King” Regulus! He Special Summoned Regulus and equipped it with Power Patron DoomZ. 

Next, Moradi activated the effect of DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea, Special Summoning it and equipping it with DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G”. He activated Change, then used Drastea’s effect to destroy Change. This allowed him to send DoomZ Destruction to the Graveyard then add it back to hand, as well as equip Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron from his Deck to DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea. He equipped DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” from hand to Drastea, then used Drastea to Xyz Summon Jupiter the Power Patron of Destruction! From there, he used Jupredo’s effect to search for Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus. After a flurry of Special Summons, Moradi brought out Dark Ceruvim Irisfil, then used it and Sargas to Xyz Summon Number F0: Utopic Future Zexal! 

Moradi activated Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus, sending Jupredo to the Graveyard and searching for Vidolium the Unstable Power Patron of Unity. He activated Vidolium, then Special Summoned back Jupredo from the Graveyard and  searched for Plundered Power Patron Plane – Vidolia. He then activated Vidolia, revealed Jupiter, and Special Summoned another copy of Jupredo from the Deck. Finally, he used the two copies of Jupredo to Xyz Summon Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times! Finally, he equipped Doomdurg from hand to Drastea, Set two cards to his backrow, and ended his turn.

Zhou drew Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion for turn! However, he knew that he would not be able to break through Moradi’s board, and conceded.

Moradi wins the Match, and improves to 8-1 at YCS Montréal!
