Edward Lu from Ottawa, Ontario is currently 1-0 with his Labrynth Deck in the Genesys Main Event at YCS Montréal. Some “Labrynth” cards recently got a reduction in point values, but several remain costly. Welcome Labrynth and Big Welcome Labrynth each have 15 points assigned to them, and Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle has 40 points assigned to it. These point values have discouraged many Duelists from using a Labrynth Deck in the Genesys format, but Lu found a way to do it, and it’s working well for him in the tournament so far. Now, he’s facing off against Mate Vulas from Brampton, Ontario in this Round 2 Feature Match! Vulas also has a 1-0 record, and he’s using a Fairy Tail Invoked Deck. “Fairy Tail” and “Invoked” strategies are two of the more popular strategies that Duelists are using in the Genesys Main Event this weekend. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Lu won the die roll and chose to go first. He opened up with Dogmatika Punishment, Labrynth Stovie Torbie, Transaction Rollback, Terrors of the Overroot, and Ice Dragon’s Prison.

He Set all of his Trap Cards except for the Rollback and then entered his End Phase. In the End Phase, he activated Stovie Torbie’s effect by discarding the Rollback, and used its effect to Set Big Welcome Labrynth from his Deck to his field.

Vulas activated the effect of Regulus, the Prince of Endymion by revealing Fairy Tail Matchgiru from his hand. He lost 1200 Life Points and Special Summoned the Regulus, then used Regulus’s effect to add Empire of Endymion from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated the Empire and used its effect to add another Regulus from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Fairy Tail – Luna next, and used its effect to add Genia of the Ring from his Deck to his hand. He combined Luna with Regulus to Xyz Summon Fairy Tail – Wiccat, prompting Lu to flip Dogmatika Punishment targeting the Wiccat. He sent Transcendosaurus Drillygnathus from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard and to try to destroy Wiccat, and Vulas used the Empire’s effect to protect it by destroying Regulus from his hand. Next, Lu flipped Ice Dragon’s Prison. He Special Summoned Regulus from Vulas’s Graveyard and banished the Regulus and Wiccat from the Duel. Since a monster left the field by a Normal Trap’s effect, Lu activated the effect of the Stovie Torbie in his Graveyard to Special Summon it. Vulas activated Sacred Spirit Sword Aiwass from his hand next, and used its effect to Special Summon Aiwass, Divine Spirit of the Law from his Deck. Lu flipped Big Welcome Labrynth and Special Summoned Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle from his Deck before returning Stovie Torbie to his hand. He used Lovely Labrynth’s effect to destroy Aiwass. Vulas activated the effect of Genia of the Ring next, and Special Summoned it from his hand by turning Lovely Labrynth into a Spellcaster. Lu flipped Terrors of the Overroot, targeting the Luna in the Graveyard and Genia on the field. He Set Luna to Vulas’s field and sent Genia to the Graveyard. Vulas passed his turn, and Lu activated the effect of the Transaction Rollback in his Graveyard during his End Phase. He paid half of his Life Points to copy Big Welcome Labrynth’s effect, prompting Vulas to concede.

Duel Two

Vulas started off Duel 2 and Lu activated the effect of Stovie Torbie from his hand by discarding Absolute King Back Jack. He Set Big Welcome Labrynth from his Deck and then activated Back Jack’s effect to rearrange the top 3 cards of his Deck. He placed two copies of Simultaneous Equation Cannon on top of his Deck, with a Lovely Labrynth beneath them. Vulas entered his Main Phase and then Special Summoned Regulus from his hand by revealing Fairy Tail – Snow from his hand.

He lost 1200 Life Points and then used Regulus’s effect to add Empire of Endymion from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and used its effect to add another Regulus from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Sacred Spirit Sword Aiwass and Special Summoned Aiwass from his Deck. He activated Aiwass’s effect to add Aleister the Reminiscent from his Deck to his hand and Summon it. He then used the Aleister’s effect by banishing Invoked Raidjin from his Extra Deck and added Invocation – “Sword” from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and sent Aleister from his field and Aiwass from banishment to his Graveyard to Fusion Summon Invoked Sorath. He activated its effect to Special Summon Aleister the Reminiscent from his Graveyard and then combined Aleister with Regulus to Xyz Summon Fairy Tail – Wiccat. He activated Wiccat’s effect by detaching 2 Xyz Materials and sent Once Upon a Fairy Tail and Fairy Tail – Matchgiru from his Deck to his Graveyard. He used the effect of Once Upon a Fairy Tail in his Graveyard to Set it back to his field. Next, he sent Wiccat and Sorath to the Graveyard to Special Summon Magistus Chorozo from the Extra Deck. He activated Sorath’s effect in the Graveyard next. He banished Sorath and Aleister the Reminiscent from his Graveyard to Fusion Summon Invoked Baybarron and used its effect to add Gamma Summon from his Deck to his hand. He Normal Summoned Fairy Tail – Matchgiru next, and activated its effect to add Fairy Tail Ball from his Deck to his hand. He then activated Ball, and used its effect to add Fairy Tail – Luna from his Deck to his hand. Next, Vulas activated Tails of the Fairy Tails, equipped to Chorozo. He used its effect to fuse Chorozo with the Fairy Tail – Snow in his hand and Summon Teller of Fairy Tails. He then used the effect of the Tails of the Fairy Tails in his Graveyard to equip it to Matchgiru and Normal Summon Luna. He used Luna’s effect to add Genia of the Ring from his Deck to his hand. He activated the effect of Tails of the Fairy Tails next, fusing Matchgiru with Baybarron to Summon Mixousa the Confounder. He activated the effect of Genia in his hand targeting Mixousa and Special Summoned the Genia. He then used Matchgiru’s effect in the Graveyard to Special Summon it. He combined Genia with Matchgiru to Xyz Summon Rilliona, the Wondrous Magistus Witch Wardrobe. He detached an Xyz Material to activate its effect and Special Summon Crowley, the Gifted Magistus from his Deck. Next, he used Crowley’s effect to fuse Crowley with Rilliona and Summon Zoroa, the Magistus Verethrangna. He activated its effect to equip the Zoroa with the Rilliona in the Graveyard. He Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.

Lu drew an Equation Cannon and then Set Trap Trick, Big Welcome Labrynth, and Simultaneous Equation Cannon before passing his turn.

Vulas activated the effect of Zoroa and Lu Chained Big Welcome Labrynth to Special Summon the Stovie Torbie and return it to his hand. Vulas entered his Battle Phase. Lu activated Trap Trick, then Chained Simultaneous Equation Cannon. Vulas Chained Teller’s effect and banished Matchgiru to negate it, then Lu resolved his Trap Trick’s effect to banish an Ice Dragon’s Prison from his Deck and Set another copy of it from his Deck to his field. Luna attacked Lu directly, and then Teller attacked directly. Lu thought for a second, and concluded that the Ice Dragon’s Prison wouldn’t be enough to help him mount his comeback. He conceded the Duel.

Duel Three

Lu opened up Duel 3 with Trap Trick, Labrynth Stovie Torbie, Arias the Labrynth Butler, Big Welcome Labrynth, and Ariane the Labrynth Servant. He Normal Summoned Ariane and activated its effect by sending Big Welcome Labrynth from his hand to his Graveyard to Special Summon Arianna the Labrynth Servant from his Deck. He activated Arianna’s effect and added Big Welcome Labrynth from his Deck to his hand. He activated the effect of Arias in his hand by sending it to the Graveyard. He Set Big Welcome Labrynth from his hand to his field and immediately activated it to Special Summon Lovely Labrynth of the Silver Castle from his Deck and return Arianna from his field to his hand. He activated the effects of Lovely Labrynth and Arianne in Chain. He drew Ice Dragon’s Prison and then randomly destroyed Tails of the Fairy Tails from Vulas’s hand. Next, he activated Stovie Torbie’s effect in his hand by discarding Arianna, and Set Labrynth Labyrinth from his Deck. He used Lovely Labrynth’s effect to Set Big Welcome Labrynth from his Graveyard and then flipped his Labrynth Labyrinth face-up. He Set Ice Dragon’s Prison and Trap Trick face-down before ending his turn.

Vulas activated Empire of Endymion and Lu Chained Big Welcome Labyrinth. Vulas Chained Cosmic Cyclone, targeting Labrynth Labyrinth to banish it. Big Welcome Labrynth resolved, and Lu Special Summoned Labrynth Chandraglier from his Deck before returning it to his hand. Empire resolved, adding Regulus from Vulas’s Deck to his hand. In a new Chain, Lu activated the effects of the Stovie Torbie in his Graveyard and the Arianne on his field. He Special Summoned Stovie Torbie and drew Magic Deflector with the effect of Arianne. Vulas activated Sacred Spirit Sword Aiwass to Special Summon Aiwass from his Deck and then activated Aiwass’s effect by banishing it. He add Aleister the Reminiscent from his Deck to his hand and Summoned it, then used Aleister’s effect. He banished Invoked Raidjin from his Extra Deck to add Invocation – “Sword” from his Deck to his hand. He activated “Sword” and sent Aleister from his field and Aiwass from banishment to his Graveyard. He Fusion Summoned Sorath and activated its effect to Special Summon Aleister the Reminiscent from his Graveyard. Next, he Normal Summoned Regulus. He combined Aleister with Regulus to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight and immediately activated its effect by detaching an Xyz Material. Lu Chained Ice Dragon’s Prison to Special Summon Aleister the Reminiscent, but then all cards on the field other than Exciton Knight were destroyed! Vulas activated the effect of Aiwass in the Graveyard to Special Summon it and then used the effect of the “Sword” in his Graveyard to return it to his Deck and return Aleister the Reminiscent from his Graveyard to his hand. He then used Sorath’s effect to banish Sorath from his Graveyard and Exciton Knight from his field and Summon Invoked Elysium in Defense Position. In the End Phase, Lu activated the effect of Labrynth Chandraglier in his hand to discard it along with Magic Deflector and Set Big Welcome Labrynth from his Deck.

Lu drew Ice Dragon’s Prison next turn and then activated Big Welcome Labrynth to Special Summon Arianna from his Deck and return it to his hand. He activated the effects of Chandraglier and Stovie Torbie in his Graveyard to add the Chandraglier to his hand and Special Summon Stovie Torbie. He then Normal Summoned Arianna and used its effect to add Arias from his Deck to his hand. He Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.

Vulas activated Aiwass’s effect on the field and banished it to add Aleister the Invoker from his Deck to his hand and Summon it. He used its effect to add Invocation from his Deck to his hand and then used the effect of Aleister the Reminiscent to Special Summon it from his hand by giving Elysium 1000 extra ATK. He then used the Reminiscent’s effect by banishing Baybarron from his Extra Deck and added “Sword” to his hand. Vulas combined his Aleisters to Summon Fairy Tail – Wiccat and Lu flipped Ice Dragon’s Prison. He Special Summoned Regulus from Vulas’s Graveyard and then banished Regulus and Wiccat. He then drew a Stovie Torbie from his Deck with Arianna’s effect. Next, Vulas activated Sacred Spirit Sword Aiwass to banish Aleister the Reminiscent from his Deck. He switched Elysium into Attack Position and attacked Arianna, but Lu activated Big Welcome’s effect in the Graveyard by banishing it to return Arianna to his hand. Elysium attacked and destroyed Stovie Torbie instead. Vulas Set 2 cards to his back row before passing his turn. In the End Phase, Lu used Chandraglier’s effect and discarded a card to Set Welcome Labrynth from his Deck.

Lu Normal Summoned Arianna and used its effect to add Labrynth Cooclock from his Deck to his hand. He ended his turn with no further play.

Vulas Normal Summoned Fairy Tail – Matchgiru and activated its effect to add Fairy Tail Ball from his Deck to his hand. He activated it, and with under 2 minutes left in the round, Lu conceded.

Mate Vulas takes a close 2-1 victory with his Fairy Tail Invoked Deck in Round 2 of the Genesys Main Event! He’s advancing in the tournament with a 2-0 record!
