Welcome to Round 2 of the Genesys event here at YCS Montréal! We’re featuring Gannon Price, from Belleville, Ontario, with a trap heavy Burning Abyss Deck. He’s facing Montréal Duelist Richer Daigneault, using the new Sacred Beast cards. Both Duelists took wins in their first round, and are looking to keep that streak going to the Top Cut.

Duel 1

Price won the dice roll and played first, with a hand of Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss; Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss; Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss; and two copies of Cagna, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss.

He began by using Cagna’s and Scarm’s effects to Special Summon them, and Xyz Summoned Dante, Traveller of the Burning Abyss. He used its effect, detaching Cagna and sending Archfiend’s Ghastly Glitch, Archfiend’s Usurpation, and Unchained Soul of Shyama. He Special Summoned Cir from his hand, then Normal Summoned his second Cagna. He Xyz Summoned another Dante, sending Usurpation, Fiendish Rhino Warrior, and Destructive Daruma Karma Cannon to the Graveyard. Fiendish Rhino Warrior sent Buio the Dawn’s Light to the Graveyard, and Buio’s effect put Mutiny in the Sky in his hand. He activated it, fusing Buio and Cagna into Aerial Eater. Its effect sent Absolute King Back Jack to the Graveyard. Back Jack let him see his top three cards, leaving Trap Tracks on top of his deck. He Set Fire Lake, then destroyed it to Special Summon Shyama from his Graveyard. He used Shyama and Aerial Eater to Xyz Summon D/D/D Wave High King Caesar!

Daigneault played Sacred Beasts Released, adding Infinity of the Sacred Beasts – Raviel, Lord of Phantasms; Calamity of the Sacred Beasts – Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder; and Inferno of the Sacred Beasts – Uria, Lord of Searing Flames to his hand, discarding Cosmic Cyclone  and Sacred Beasts Combined Assault. He used Hamon’s effect to add Sacred Beasts Thunderclap to his hand, discarding the Hamon. He used the effect of Summoner of the Sacred Beasts, but Price negated and destroyed it with Caesar. He tried banishing it from the Graveyard for its other effect, and Price negated it again with Caesar. Daigneault played Thunderclap, placing two more Thunderclaps and Fallen Paradise of the Sacred Beasts on the field. Price responded now, using Absolute King Back Jack’s effect to get Trap Tracks on the field. He activated it to Set Paleozoic Marrella on the field and destroy Dante. Dante’s effect returned Cagna to his hand. He then used Marrella’s effect, sending Transaction Rollback to the Graveyard. Daigneault continued, trying to use his Field Spell, and Price used Transaction Rollback to use the effect of Fire Lake of the Burning Abyss! It destroyed all of Daigneault’s cards except one Thunderclap. Daigneault Normal Summoned Martyr of the Sacred Beasts. He used Raviel’s effect, getting Hamon in his hand, and he discarded another Cosmic Cyclone. He banished Combined Assault from his Graveyard, and brought The Chaotic Phantasmal Sacred Beasts to the field! He used Martyr’s effect, bringing two more Martyrs to the field. He stacked two of them for Lyrilusc – Recital Starling, using its effect to add D.D. Crow to his hand. He sent Recital Starling to attack Caesar, dealing all the battle damage back to Price. The Chaotic Phantasmal Sacred Beasts attacked Caesar next. Since Price had paid half his Life Points for Transaction Rollback, that was enough to end the first Duel!

Duel 2

Price started the next Duel with Transaction Rollback; Dragon’s Mind; Shyama; Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss; and Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss.

He Special Summoned Farfa, then Normal Summoned Graff. He used both monsters to Xyz Summon Dante, detaching Graff and sending Fire Lake, Mutiny in the Sky, and Cagna to the Graveyard. Daigneault Chained D.D. Crow to banish Graff before it could activate its effect! Price used Mutiny’s effect, discarding Shyarma to return Mutiny to his hand. He used Dante to Xyz Summon Dragon Gate, then detached Farfa from it. That gave him the material for Mutiny to fuse Farfa and Cagna into Aerial Eater. Aerial Eater sent Absolute King Back Jack to the Graveyard, and it let him stack Trap Tracks on top of his deck. He Set Transaction Rollback, and destroyed it to Special Summon Shyama. He used Shyama and Aerial Eater to Xyz Summon Caesar, and Set Dragon’s Mind to finish.

Daigneault began by Tributing Caesar to hand over Kumongous, the Sticky String Kaiju! He played Sacred Beasts Released, adding Martyr, Summoner, and Raviel to his hand, then discarding Pair Bear Scare!! and Forbidden Chalice. He used Hamon’s effect, adding Thunderclap to his hand and discarding Hamon. He used Raviel’s effect, adding Uria to his hand and discarding Raviel. He used Summoner to bring Raviel to the field. He then banished it to Special Summon Hamon. Price now used Back Jack to Set Trap Tracks, and activated it. He destroyed Kumongous and Set Destructive Daruma Karma Cannon. He flipped it up to prevent Daigneault’s further plays. Daigneault used Uria’s effect to add and discard Combined Assault. He used Combined Assault’s effect, fusing Uria, Hamon, and Raviel into The Chaotic Phantasmal Sacred Beasts! He Normal Summoned Martyr, placing Fallen Paradise on the field. He used its effect to bring two more Martyrs to the field. He used Fallen Paradise to send his three Martyrs to the Graveyard and Special Summon Hamon. He drew two cards with Fallen Paradise, then played Thunderclap to get two more Thunderclaps on the field. He used Fallen Paradise to send the Thunderclaps to the Graveyard and Special Summon Raviel. Price now used Transaction Rollback on Destructive Daruma Karma Cannon! Daigneault’s Fusion Monster was flipped face-down, and he had to send his other monsters to the Graveyard. He Set a back row card to finish his turn.

Price drew Archfiend’s Usurpation. He Flip Summoned Dragon Gate, used it to Xyz Summon Dark Ceruvim Irisfil, then sent it to the Graveyard to add Mutiny to his hand. He played Mutiny, fusing Caesar, Aerial Eater, and Irisfil into Luce the Dusk’s Dark in his leftmost Main Monster Zone. He tried using its effect on Daigneault’s face-down monster, but Daigneault flipped his Set card: Forbidden Chalice! Price destroyed Luce to Special Summon Shyama from his Graveyard. He played Usurpation to get Ghastly Glitch, and used that to destroy Daigneault’s Set Fusion Monster, while sending Cir to the Graveyard. He used Cir to revive Dante, and attacked with Shyama and Dante. He used Shyama’s effect to destroy his Set Dragon’s Mind and Daigneault’s Fallen Paradise. Price concluded his turn by using Dante to Xyz Summon Downderd Magician, and that to Xyz Summon Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder! Daigneault used the effects of Martyr and Thunderclap in the Graveyard, returning them to his hand.

Daigneault banished Sacred Beasts Released from the Graveyard to add Yomagna the Fire Phantom to his hand! He Special Summoned it, returning his fallen Sacred Beasts to the Deck and Extra Deck. He declared Spellcaster for Yomagna’s effect, then used its effect. He was threatening to fuse with Price’s monsters into Mixousia the Confounder, so Price was forced to use Zeus’s effect or lose it forever. Daigneault continued by activating Sacred Beasts Released from his hand, adding all three of the Sacred Beasts to his hand and discarding Uria and Raviel. He played Thunderclap, which put two more Thunderclaps on the field, along with Fallen Paradise. He sent the Thunderclaps to the Graveyard to Special Summon Raviel, then played Martyr and brought two more Martyrs to the field. Fallen Paradise let him use those to bring Summoner to the field. He used its effect to Special Summon Hamon in Defense Position. He used Raviel and Hamon to Xyz Summon Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times, which destroyed Zeus in battle.

Price drew Lord of the Heavenly Prison. He was out of options, with no way to fend off the assault of the Sacred Beasts!
