Round 4 Genesys Feature Match: Nicolas Ramlal vs. Daniel Shogan
We’re in Round 4 with another Genesys Feature Match! Nicolas Ramlal is from nearby Lake Nona, playing an Ashtra Tombkeeper Deck! Ramlal is normally a fixture of the Judge Program, but with YCS Orlando on his doorstep, he had to participate! His opponent is Daniel Shogan, here from Harrisonburg, Virginia. Shogan is running with Centur-Ion Angelechy, a variant of one of the most successful Decks in the event so far.
Duel 1
Shogan won the dice roll and chose to play first. Ramlal had an opening hand of Apophis the Serpent, Akasuna the Battle Ashtra, Mikumari the Banisher Ashtra, and two copies of Treasures of the Kings.

Shogan led with Angelechy Strategy Score to add Angelechy Opposition to his hand. He played that, handing over Angelechy Seneschal to Ramlal and put Angelechy Destrier in his back row. Destrier added Angelechy Brilliant Move to Shogan’s hand. Seneschal’s effect let Shogan Special Summon his own Seneschal, while Ramlal Special Summoned Odin, Father of the Aesir. Since it was Ramlal activating the gifted Seneschal’s effect, Destrier burned Ramlal for 500 damage. Shogan played Angelechy Problem, sending Brilliant Move to the Graveyard to Special Summon Angelechy Enlisted and put Angelechy Shatranga in his back row. He added Angelechy Verdict to his hand. Then, he Synchro Summoned Centur-Ion Auxila, adding Centur-Ion Phalanx to his hand. He Normal Summoned Centur-Ion Primera and added Wake Up Centur-Ion! to his hand. He played Wake Up to Special Summon a Level 4 Centur-Ion Token, and used Primera and the Token to Synchro Summon Centur-Ion Primera Primus. That let him add Emblema Oath to his hand, then destroyed Destrier and Odin (Destrier was not destroyed thanks to Auxila). He played Oath to put Centur-Ion Atrii in his back row, then Special Summoned it and drew a card. He used Atrii and Primera Primus for Centur-Ion Legatia, destroying Seneschal and drawing another card. He replaced Angelechy Problem with Stand Up Centur-Ion!, then Set two back row cards. In the End Phase, Auxila placed Atrii in his back row.
Ramlal drew Anubis the Last Judge. He discarded Anubis to add The Man with the Mark to his hand. He activated Treasures, and Shogan Chained Angelechy Verdict to negate it. For every one of Ramlal’s effects, Destrier was dishing out 500 damage. Ramlal Normal Summoned The Man with the Mark, adding Temple of the Kings to his hand. He Set Temple, then returned it to his hand to Special Summon Mikumari, which added Yoa the Plague Ashtra to his hand. He Set Temple of the Kings again, returning it once more to Special Summon Yoa and Set Ashtra’s Domain on the field. He activated Temple of the Kings, and Shogan Special Summoned Atrii to draw a card. Ramlal Set Apophis the Serpent, and immediately activated it thanks to Temple of the Kings. Apophis the Serpent Set Apophis the Swamp Deity, and he flipped it immediately to Special Summon it and negate Shatranga. He used both his trap monsters to bring forth Divine Serpent Apophis, and Shogan banished it with Centur-Ion Phalanx. Ramlal returned Ashtra’s Domain to Special Summon Akasuna. He moved to the Battle Phase, sending Yoa to destroy Legatia and Mikumari to destroy Atrii. Ramlal Set Ashtra’s Domain, and used Akasuna’s effect to Set Ashtra’s Howl.
In Shogan’s turn, Ramlal flipped Howl to Special Summon it as a Tuner. He tuned it to Akasuna for Ashtraja Susanoo. He banished three traps from his Graveyard to banish Auxila, Destrier, and Shatranga! Shogan banished Opposition from his Graveyard to return four of his Angelechy cards to the Deck and Extra Deck. He Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Mix, and Ramlal Chained Yoa’s effect to reduce Mix’s Level. Shogan added Kewl Tune Reco to his hand. He activated a new Stand Up, and Ramlal flipped up Ashtra’s Domain to Special Summon it as a Tuner. He tuned it to Mikumari for Ashtraya Mikumari-no-Mikoto. Mikumari returned Domain to the field, and Mikumari-no-Mikoto sent Ashtra’s Web to the Graveyard. Shogan activated Strategy Score, adding Opposition to his hand. He played Opposition, handing over Seneschal and putting Destrier in his back row. Destrier added Problem to his hand, and Seneschal let Shogan Special Summon another Destrier. He banished Verdict from the Graveyard to replace his back row Destrier with Shatranga. That added Angelechy Disturbance to his hand. He activated Problem, discarding Disturbance to Special Summon Enlisted and place Seneschal in his back row. He tuned Enlisted to Destrier for Assault Blackwing – Kusanagi the Gathering Storm. Kusanagi gained 4000 ATK and wiped out the last of Ramlal’s Life Points!

Duel 2
Ramlal chose to play second for this Duel – a surprising choice for a trap-based Deck, but he probably was hoping trip up his opponent’s Side Deck choices. He started with a hand of Typhoon, Anubis the Last Judge, Ashtra’s Web, and two copies of Mikumari.

Shogan started with Opposition, giving Seneschal to Ramlal while placing Destrier in his back row. Destrier added Problem to his hand. Seneschal brought a Seneschal to Shogan’s field and Odin to Ramlal’s, and Ramlal took 500 damage from Destrier. Shogan played Strategy Score to add Disturbance, then played Problem. He used its effect by discarding Disturbance, and Ramlal activated Typhoon to destroy Angelechy Problem. Problem failed to resolve, but Destrier dealt another 500 damage. Shogan played Stand Up Centur-Ion!, using it to send a Lava Golem to the Graveyard and place Centur-Ion Trudea in his back row. He Special Summoned Trudea, using its effect to return it to the back row and get Primera in the back row. He Special Summoned Primera, which added Wake Up to his hand. He played Wake Up to Special Summon a Level 4 Centur-Ion Token, and Synchro Summoned Primera Primus. That let him add Emblema Oath to his hand, then destroyed his own Trudea and Ramlal’s Odin. He activated Emblema Oath to place Centur-Ion Gargoyle II in his back row. He Special Summoned Gargoyle II, reducing its Level to 4. He used it and Primera Primus to Synchro Summon Auxila. Gargoyle II returned to his hand, and Auxila added Phalanx. He activated Synchro Overtake, revealing Kewl Tune RS to Special Summon Kewl Tune Reco, which added Kewl Tune Mix to his hand. He used both monsters to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Remix, returning Ramlal’s Seneschal to the Extra Deck. He Set one card in his back row to finish. In the End Phase, Auxila placed Primera in the back row.
Ramlal drew Dominus Spiral. He used Anubis to add The Man with the Mark to his hand, and he Normal Summoned it to add Treasures of the Kings. Destrier continued dealing 500 damage to Ramlal with each effect. Shogan used Remix’s effect to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune RS, destroy The Man with Mix’s effect. Ramlal played Treasures, and RS negated it. Ramlal Set Ashtra’s Web and returned it to Special Summon Mikumari. Shogan banished it temporarily with Phalanx. Ramlal Set Web and Dominus Spiral. At the end of the Main Phase, Shogan Special Summoned Primera from his back row and added a Trudea to his hand.
In the Standby Phase, Ramlal Special Summoned his banished Mikumari from Centur-Ion Phalanx’s effect. Shogan activated Duelist Genesis to add Synchro Overtake to his hand. He Normal Summoned Trudea, using it and Primera to Synchro Summon Primera Primus. Ramlal flipped Dominus Spiral targeting Kewl Tune RS, and Shogan Chained RS to try and negate Spiral. Ramlal Chained Ashtra’s Web to Special Summon it as a Tuner, and Synchro Summoned Mikumari-no-Mikoto. Primera Primus finally resolved to destroy Stand Up and Mikumari-no-Mikoto (Stand Up survived thanks to its effect). Ramlal had no monsters, and Shogan had enough ATK to end the Match!

Daniel Shogan takes this Match with Centur-Ion Angelechy!
