Rise of the Gravekeeper’s!

January 14th, 2014

The keepers of the pharaoh’s tomb are back! Five new Gravekeeper’s monsters are available in Legacy of the Valiant, making the watchful guardians of Necrovalley more potent than ever before!

Oracle

The strongest of the 5 new Gravekeeper’s monsters is Gravekeeper’s Oracle. Gravekeeper’s Oracle is a Level 10 DARK monster with 2000 ATK. It can be Tribute Summoned by Tributing 3 monsters, 2 monsters like a normal Level 7 or higher monster, or 1 Gravekeeper’s monster. Gravekeeper’s Oracle has 3 different effects. You can activate one effect for each Gravekeeper’s monster you Tributed to Summon it.

Gravekeeper’s Oracle’s first effect increases its ATK by 100 times the combined Levels of the monsters you Tributed to Summon it; its second effect destroys all Set monsters your opponent controls when you Tribute Summon it; and its third effect decreases the ATK and DEF of all monsters your opponent controls by 2000. Whether you want to strengthen your own monster, weaken your opponent’s monsters, or destroy Set monsters, Tributing Gravekeeper’s monsters to Summon Gravekeeper’s Oracle will get the job done. Gravekeeper’s Spy excels at getting you 2 Tributes for at least 2 effects, depending on if you have other monsters on the field already or ways to Special Summon more.

ShamanGravekeeper’s Shaman is a watchful defender of Necrovalley. Gravekeeper’s Shaman is a Level 6 monster with 1500 ATK and 1500 DEF, but gains an additional 200 DEF for each Gravekeeper’s monster in your Graveyard. These extra Defense Points make it tough to destroy when it’s in Defense Position.

While it’s face-up on the field alongside Necrovalley, Gravekeeper’s Shaman prevents your opponent from activating or destroying Field Spell Cards. This guarantees Necrovalley’s safety for as long as you control Gravekeeper’s Shaman. Plus, Gravekeeper’s Shaman negates all monster effects that activate in the Graveyard – except Gravekeeper’s. This lets it negate the effects of lots of monsters that Necrovalley can’t stop, like Treeborn Frog and Mermail Abysslinde while still allowing you to get the effects of your own Gravekeeper’s Recruiters.

Level4sIn addition to the new Level 6 and Level 10 Gravekeeper’s powerhouses, 2 new Level 4 Gravekeeper’s monsters are available in Legacy of the Valiant.

Gravekeeper’s Ambusher has 1700 ATK and a cool effect that activates when it’s flipped face-up. When your Ambusher is flipped face-up, you can send a card from your opponent’s Graveyard to the bottom of his or her Deck. If your Ambusher is destroyed after being flipped face-up, you can add a “Necrovalley” card from your Graveyard to your hand. Ambusher’s effects cannot be negated by Necrovalley, so don’t worry about negating its effect with your own Necrovalley. Obviously, it can get back the Necrovalley Field Spell Card, but the fact that it gets back a “Necrovalley” card instead of just Necrovalley is important because there are 2 additional “Necrovalley” cards in Legacy of the Valiant! We’ll take a look at those new cards later this week.

Gravekeeper’s Heretic is a new Level 4 World Premiere Gravekeeper’s monster. Gravekeeper’s Heretic has 1800 ATK and 1500 DEF, and is unaffected by all other card effects as long as Necrovalley is on the field. Gravekeeper’s Heretic’s effect makes it impossible for an opponent to destroy your Heretic, except in battle. Basically, he trades the 500 ATK and DEF from Necrovalley for immunity to everything else. Whether or not you’re willing to make that trade is an interesting choice that’s entirely up to you!

Nobleman

Gravekeeper’s Nobleman is a new Level 3 Gravekeeper’s monster with 1000 ATK and DEF. When it’s destroyed in battle and sent to the Graveyard by an opponent’s attacking monster, you can Special Summon any Gravekeeper’s monster from your Deck, except for Gravekeeper’s Nobleman, in face-down Defense Position. You can use Gravekeeper’s Nobleman to Special Summon any of the other 4 Gravekeeper’s monsters in Legacy of the Valiant, or Special Summon old favorites like Gravekeeper’s Spy and Gravekeeper’s Recruiter. Since Gravekeeper’s Nobleman Special Summons the Gravekeeper’s monster face-down, you’ll be able to use any Flip Effects or effects that activate when your Gravekeeper’s monster flips face-up, like the effects of Gravekeeper’s Spy or Gravekeeper’s Guard.

Old but powerful cards like Necrovalley, Royal Tribute, Gravekeeper’s Stele, Gravekeeper’s Descendant, and more have made Gravekeeper’s a force to be reckoned with for more than a decade. The new Gravekeeper’s monsters in Legacy of the Valiant give them an even bigger boost. On Wednesday, we’ll take a look at a new Spell Card and a new Trap Card that fit perfectly into Gravekeeper’s Decks!

You’ll get your first chance at this new generation of Gravekeeper’s at the Legacy of the Valiant Sneak Peek this weekend!
