When You Wish Upon a Stone…

April 11th, 2014

When Jaden Yuki Dueled against Kagemaru in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, he fought one of the toughest Duels of his life. Kagemaru wielded all three of the Sacred Beast monsters – Uria, Lord of Searing Flames, Raviel, Lord of Phantasms, and Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder – each of which possessed Attack Points that dwarfed Jaden’s Elemental HERO monsters. Fortunately for Jaden, he had a secret weapon from Duel Academy’s Professor Banner: Sabatiel – The Philosopher’s Stone!

Sabatiel contained the power Jaden needed to triumph over the Sacred Beasts and defeat Kagemaru. It gave Jaden the cards he needed exactly when he needed them and after he had used up his three wishes, it increased the Attack Points of his monster to make it stronger than a Sacred Beast. And when Dragons of Legend launches you’ll be able to do the same!

Sabatiel – The Philosopher’s Stone
is a perfect addition for anyone looking to rebuild Jaden’s Deck or design a new hardcore Fusion strategy – as long as you’re playing with Winged Kuriboh! If you have a “Winged Kuriboh” monster in your Graveyard, which includes Winged Kuriboh Classic along with LV9 and LV10, you can pay half of your Life Points to activate Sabatiel. When it resolves, you get to add any Polymerization” Spell Card or “Fusion” Spell Card from your Deck to your hand! Except, of course, Diffusion Wave-Motion. That doesn’t fuse anything together and is thus ineligible.

In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Jaden uses Sabatiel – The Philosopher’s Stone three times to add Fusion Recovery, De-Fusion, and Miracle Fusion to his hand. While all three of these cards are valid cards to add to your hand with Sabatiel, there are also lots of other options. These include Polymerization, Super Polymerization, Dark Fusion, Parallel World Fusion, Instant Fusion, Miracle Synchro Fusion, Overload Fusion, and many more cards! If you’re playing in Traditional Format, you can even get Future Fusion! You can check the official Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME Database for a complete list of “Fusion” Spell Cards.

The ability to grab any “Polymerization” Spell Card or “Fusion” Spell Card from your Deck is awesome, but Sabatiel’s strongest effect is unleashed once three copies of it are sent to the Graveyard. By banishing three copies of Sabatiel – The Philosopher’s Stone from your Graveyard, you can increase a monster’s ATK by the ATK of the strongest monster on the field. Jaden uses Sabatiel’s hidden effect to increase the ATK of his Elemental HERO Electrum and make it strong enough to defeat Raviel, Lord of Phantasms. You can use Sabatiel to increase the ATK of any of your monsters in preparation for a Duel-winning onslaught.

Of course, you don’t necessarily need to activate all 3 copies of Sabatiel to get that second effect. Try using Kuribandit along with Sabatiel. You’ll be able to load your Graveyard with Fusion Materials to use with Miracle Fusion, get a Spell Card you need, and send extra copies of Sabatiel to the Graveyard. Or if you don’t have Sabatiel at all, you can grab it! You might even hit a Winged Kuriboh to bring Sabatiel online! Also on the Winged Kuriboh front, remember that The Flute of Summoning Kuriboh can Summon it straight from your Deck to block an attack and protect you from damage or serve as a Tribute or Fusion Material… or if the GX love is truly strong within you, you can send it to the Graveyard along with a LIGHT Dragon to Summon Ma’at!

Sabatiel – The Philosopher’s Stone was one of the most powerful cards Jaden ever used in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and the major factor in one of the most legendary turnarounds in any of the animated series! When Dragons of Legend is released on April 25th, you’ll finally be able to get your hands on it!
