Code of the Duelist: No Critter Left Behind

July 25th, 2017

The Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME features legendary monsters that take the form of Dragons, Spellcasters, Warriors, ancient Egyptian deities and… little adorable woodland creatures?!  Continuing in the line of cats, rabbits and hamsters, meet the latest member of the rescue animal squad: Rescue Ferret!

SquadGoals

As you might expect, Rescue Ferret is a Level 4 EARTH Beast with 300 ATK and 100 DEF, the same as Rescue Cat, Rescue Rabbit and Rescue Hamster before it.  Emerging Emergency Rescute Rescue can search them all, so you can consistently find Rescue Ferret and friends.  Like the others, Rescue Ferret also has an effect that Special Summons monsters from your Deck.  Rescue Ferret can return itself to the Deck to Special Summon from your Main Deck monster(s) whose total Level add up to exactly 6 into Main Monster Zones that a Link Monster(s) point to.  Those monsters’ effects are negated and they’re destroyed in the End Phase, but you’ll want to get as much use out of them as possible before then.

Beyond the “effects negated” restriction, you can do pretty much anything you want with these monsters; you can Special Summon a big Level 5 monster like Cyber Dragon alongside a Level 1 Tuner like Glow-Up Bulb and then used them to Synchro Summon a Level 6 Synchro Monster like Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier.  You could also Special Summon 2 Level 3 Monsters like Sangan and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to setup for a big Synchro or Xyz Summon!  If you’re using Trickstars and you have a Trickstar Holly Angel in your Extra Monster Zone, you already have her 2 Link Arrows pointing to your zones, giving you the perfect chance to Special Summon a Trickstar into a zone Holly Angel points to, which will trigger her effect to burn your opponent for 200!  Rescue Ferret is a great fit in Trickstars and maybe some other strategies too! You can also Special Summon just a Level 6 monster, so getting something like Destiny HERO – Malicious from your Deck is a good choice because you can use it as a material and then benefit from its effect whenever it is ideal.

In case that wasn’t enough, Rescue Ferret returns itself to the Deck as a cost.  Even if its effect is negated by Solemn Strike, Rescue Ferret is safely in the Deck where it won’t be destroyed by Solemn Strike’s effect.  And by returning to the Deck, you can get another chance to use Rescue Ferret’s effect again!  As long as you have Link Monsters pointing to a Main Monster Zone, you’re free to use Rescue Ferret’s effect again and again on following turns as long as you have the right monster(s) to Summon each time!

You can find Rescue Ferret at the Code of the Duelist Sneak Peek on July 29th/30th at your local Official Tournament Stores!
