Deck Profile: Luke Patterson’s Granel Scraps

May 22nd, 2011

Luke Patterson has been playing Scraps ever since they were released, and finished the Swiss rounds of this weekend’s tournament with a 9-1 record by using an updated Scrap Deck that takes advantage of Meklord Emperor Granel, Scrap Orthros, and Reborn Tengu. He also just won his first playoff rounds, utterly dominating Gladiator Beasts, a historically poor matchup for Scraps! His Deck is also packed with tech choices like Fiendish Chain and Scapegoat, which have amazing synergy with his monsters and open up a variety of plays that former Scrap Decks were incapable of making.

12-year-old Kyle Chen from Tallahassee, Florida finished the Swiss rounds with an 8-2 record using Gladiator Beasts. His opponent, Luke Patterson, took his Scrap Deck to a 9-1 finish. His opponent, Christopher Reitz, is also undefeated, with a traditional Gravekeeper’s Deck. Necrovalley’s ability to shut down the effect of Scrap Chimera may make this a difficult Matchup for Shim, but if Shim can take down enough of Reitz’s Necrovalleys one at a time with the effects of cards like Scrap Dragon, he may be able to pull ahead.

Deck Profile: Jonny Nagel’s Naturia Scraps

October 10th, 2010

One of the most memorable Feature Matches of the weekend was Jonny Nagel’s 3-Duel throwdown against Gary Diamond in Round 10.  Nagel didn’t make it to the Top 32 – with an 8-2 record he made 36th place, missing out on the playoff rounds by a handful of tiebreaker points.  But Nagel’s Deck is something totally unique, and he really impressed the spectators here today.  Here’s his build:
