Welcome to the Top 16 of YCS Pasadena! In this round, we have Brian Ramirez from Moreno Valley, California Dueling against Blair Hunter from Warner Robins, Georgia at the Feature Match table! Ramirez is the last Cyber Dragon Duelist left in the tournament. He had an impressive showing in the Swiss Rounds. He finished the Swiss Rounds with a 9-2 record, and even won a Feature Match in Round 5 yesterday. Now, he’s up against Blair Hunter and his Thunder Dragons! Thunder Dragon Decks often rely on sticking Thunder Dragon Colossus or Thunder Dragon Titan on the field, and Ramirez’s Cyber Dragon cards can easily take care of monsters Summoned from the Extra Deck thanks to Chimeratech Megafleet Dragon. Will that make this a tough Match for Hunter? We’re about to find out. It’s time to Duel!
Coming into the weekend there were two strong theories about Thunder Dragons: first, that they beat Sky Strikers and Trickstars. Second, that they lose to Altergeists. The ratio of Thunder Dragons to Sky Strikers left in the tournament at this point sort of tells the tale of that match-up. But we’ve yet to see Thunder Dragons take on Altergeists in a Feature Match this weekend.
We now have that opportunity here in the Top 16 where Shawn Rai is playing Thunder Dragons against Chandler Scott’s Altergeists. This should be informative.
Here are your Pairings for the Top 16:
We have two talented Duelists for this Feature Match, each with great placings in some major events. Rodolfo Ramirez, from Tijuana, made the top cut of YCS San Diego as well as the 2017 WCQ. He’s using Sky Strikers today. His opponent is Renato Sarmiento, from Lima, Peru. Sarmiento made it to the top cut of the South American WCQ, and he’s the only Paleozoic Duelist to make it into the Top 64 here at YCS Mexico City.
And we’re now at Top 16! Walter Jule finished Swiss in 27th place as the only one of two Duelists to take Pendulum Magician into Top 64. His opponent is Russell Kenneth Novak-Burdick who finished Swiss in 54th with a Trickstar Sky Striker Deck. Pendulum Magicians have had to adapt since losing Astrograph Sorcerer in the latest Forbidden and Limited List, but it’s still clearly a Deck to be considered! Only one of these Duelists will move on to the Top 8. Who will move on? It’s time to Duel!
