We are in the penultimate Swiss round for the Genesys Format Main Event here at YCS Columbus. Both Duelists are sitting at a 7-2 record and need to maintain it to have a solid chance at making it into the Top 8. 

Jordan Swinkunas, from Kalamazoo, Michigan, is playing Mimighoul this weekend. William Wesley, from Lexington, Kentucky, is using Radiant Typhoon. Both of these strategies have been incredibly popular this weekend in the Genesys Format Main Event and are huge contenders in the format.

Both Duelists are trying to stay in the competition for the Top 8 finish with just one more round after this. 

Duel One

Swinkunas won the dice roll and chose to go first. He looked at his hand of Treasure Panther, D.D. Crow, and three Mimighoul Maker.

Swinkunas activated Mimighoul Maker! Mimighoul Archfiend was Special Summoned to Wesley’s field, while Mimighoul Dragon was added to Swinkunas’ hand. He Special Summoned Dragon to his field and activated its effect to add Mimighoul Dungeon from his Deck to his hand. Swinkunas then activated Dungeon and added a Mimighoul Archfiend from his Deck. He Normal Summoned the Archfiend and used its effect to flip Wesley’s Archfiend face-up. 

The Mimighoul Archfiend on Wesley’s field activated, and Swinkunas drew a Treasure Panther. Wesley discarded Radiant Typhoon Manifestation and gave control of Archfiend back to Swinkunas. Swinkunas then Xyz Summoned Mimighoul Throne and activated its effect to Special Summon Mimighoul Master from his Deck. He activated its effect and added Mimighoul Slime from his Deck to his hand. Then, activated Slime and Special Summoned it to Wesley’s field.

Swinkunas activated Treasure Panther in his hand, and Special Summoned it to the field, then flipped Wesley’s Slime into Attack Position. Wesley activated his Mimighoul Slime, and Swinkunas was able to Special Summon Mimighoul Cerberus from his Deck. Wesley then had to give Slime back to Swinkunas, and it went to the Graveyard because Swinkunas had a full field of monsters! Swinkunas then Xyz Summoned Giant Mimihoul and used its effect to add Mimighoul Room from his Deck to his hand. He Set Room and a Maker to the field and ended his turn.

Wesley activated Radiant Typhoon Vision in his Draw Phase to draw 2 new cards. He discarded Enemy Controller. Moving to the Main Phase, he Normal Summoned Radiant Typhoon Meghala. Wesley then activated Mystical Space Typhoon and targeted the face-down Mimighoul Maker, Swinkunas Chained his Mimighoul Room! Swinkunas Special Summoned Mimighoul Dragon to Wesley’s field and flipped Meghala face-down.

Wesley moved to his End Phase and activated Final Bringer of the End Times! Swinkunas Chained D.D. Crow to banish the Mystical Space Typhoon in Wesley’s Graveyard. Wesley destroyed the Giant and Dragon and then ended his turn. 

Swinkunas drew Dimension Shifter at the start of his turn. He moved to the Main Phase and tried to activate the effect of Mimighoul Dungeon, but Wesley Chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit! Swinkunas Chained the Graveyard effect of Mimighoul Room by banishing it to bounce his Dungeon back to his hand. He reactivated Mimighoul Dungeon. Swinkunas tried to activate Mimighoul Maker, but Wesley had Dominus Purge!

Swinkunas Special Summoned Treasure Panther from his hand, then Xyz Summoned Giant Mimighoul. He activated Giant’s effect and added Mimighoul Dragon from his Deck to his hand. Then, Swinkunas Normal Summoned Dragon and activated its effect to add another Mimighoul Room from his Deck to his hand. He went into the Battle Phase and attacked with all of his monsters.

In the Main Phase 2, Swinkunas Xyz Summoned Downerd Magician using Giant Mimighoul, and then Xyz Summoned Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder! He Set Mimighoul Room and ended his turn.

In Wesley’s Draw Phase, Swinkunas flipped Mimighoul Room and summoned Mimighoul Flower to Wesley’s field. Knowing what would happen next, Wesley conceded the first Duel!

Duel Two

Wesley chose to go first.

Wesley started with Radiant Typhoon Vision in the Draw Phase to draw 2 cards, and then discarded Radiant Typhoon Fonix, the Great Flame. He then activated Radiant Typhoon Krosea! Wesley Special Summoned Krosea and added Mystical Space Typhoon and Radiant Typhoon Eldam. In the Main Phase, he Special Summoned Eldam, used its effect to add Radiant Typhoon Swen, and then Special Summoned Swen and activated its effect. Wesley added Radiant Typhoon Mandate to his hand. He then Xyz Summoned Totem Bird, Set 4 cards, and ended his turn!

Swinkunas looked at his hand: Mimighoul Dungeon, Book of Eclipse, Mimighoul Dragon, and two Bot Herder. He drew Mimighoul Flower at the start of his turn.

In the Main Phase, Swinkunas activated Book of Eclipse! Krosea and Totem Bird were flipped face-down. Swinkunas then activated Mimighoul Dungeon and used its effect, Wesley chained Final Bringer of the End Times, and destroyed his Krosea and Dungeon. 

Swinkunas Normal Summoned Mimighoul Dragon and activated its effect. Wesley Chained his face-down Mystical Space Typhoon and targeted his face-down Radiant Typhoon Mandate. He then Chained Mandate and applied its effect to negate the Mimighoul Dragon. Wesley destroyed his own Mandate. In a new Chain, Wesley activated Radiant Typhoon Fonix, the Great Flame, Radiant Typhoon Krosea, and Radiant Typhoon Mandate. He added another Mystical Space Typhoon and Radiant Typhoon Ascendance. Fonix hit the field, and Radiant Typhoon Mandate was reset to the field. 

Swinkunas activated and Special Summoned Mimighoul Flower to Wesley’s field. He then activated Bot Herder and targeted the Flower! Swinkunas took control of Krosea, Fonix, and the face-down Totem Bird! Wesley then activated his last Set card, Enemy Controller, and Tributed his Mimighoul Flower to take control of Fonix. Wesley then activated Fonix’s effect and shuffled Dragon back into the Deck. Swinkunas Flip Summoned Totem Bird and then Xyz Summoned Dragon Gate over it. He activated its effect and attacked over Fonix before ending his turn. 

In the Draw Phase, Wesley activated Radiant Typhoon Mandate and shuffled three of his Quick-Play Spells from his Graveyard back into the Deck to draw a new card. He then activated Radiant Typhoon Ascendance to Special Summon, then Chained his own Mystical Space Typhoon, and Chained Mandate’s effect.

Knowing that Wesley had more Radiant Typhoon cards at his disposal, Swinkunas conceded the second Duel!

Duel Three

Swinkunas chose to start the final Duel of the Match. 

Swinkunas started with Treasure Panther, Different Dimension Ground, Summoning Curse, Mimighoul Maker, and Mimighoul Armor. 

Swinkunas started the Duel with Summoning Curse. He followed it up with Mimighoul Maker, but Wesley had Dominus Purge. Swinkunas then activated Armor and Special Summoned it to Wesley’s field. This triggered the Summoning Curse, which forced Wesley to banish his Radiant Typhoon Chant.

“Why you gotta do this to me? My hand is so good,” Wesley said after making the tough decision of what card to lose. 

Swinkunas Set a card, then activated and Special Summoned Treasure Panther he activated its effect and flipped Mimighoul Armor face-up. Wesley activated Armor, and it shifted control back to Swinkunas. He then Xyz Summoned Mimighoul Throne and used its effect to Special Summon Mimighoul Master from his Deck to the field. He ended his turn.

Wesley drew to start his turn. In the Draw Phase, he activated Radiant Typhoon Vision to add Mystical Space Typhoon. Swinkunas Chained Different Dimension Ground! Still in the Draw Phase, Wesley activated Radiant Typhoon Fonix, the Great Flame, and Special Summoned it to the field. Summoning Curse was triggered, but Wesley Chained Mystical Space Typhoon! In a new Chain, Wesley activated Fonix and bounced Throne and Master to Swinkunas’s hand!

That was all that Swinkunas needed to see; he offered the handshake!
