In this Round 12 Advanced Format Feature Match, we have two Duelists playing strategies that have consistently been at the top tables all weekend long. Andrew Joseph Crosley is playing the DoomZ Deck, while Duy Chien Nguyen is piloting the Kewl Tune Deck! Tbese Duelists each have 9-2 records, so they’ll have to win all of their remaining rounds just to have a chance at making it to the Top 8 here at YCS Columbus. The pressure is on! It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Nguyen opened with Effect Veiler, Duelist Genesis, Kewl Tune Mix, Kewl Tune Reco, and Kewl Tune Cue. 

Crosley won the die roll and chose to go first! He started by activating DoomZ Raiders, then used its effect to destroy DoomZ V Five – Amalthe in hand and Special Summon DoomZ VII Seven – Elara from the Deck. He then Set DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” to his backrow and searched for Power Patron DoomZ. Next, he activated DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” and equipped it to Elara, then activated Elara’s effect, Special Summoning Doomz Break – Diactorus! He used Diactorus to Xyz Summon DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio, then used Graflareio’s effect to search for DoomZ Change. Here, he equipped DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” from the Graveyard to Graflareio, then used DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.”’s effect to destroy Graflareio. He Special Summoned Amalthe and Elara, used the two to Xyz Summon Springans Merrymaker, then used it to Xyz Summon Gigantic “Champion” Sargas! Crosley activated Sargas’ effect to search for Therion “King” Regulus; Nguyen activated the effect of Effect Veiler to try and negate Sargas’ effect, but Crosley followed up with The Fallen & The Virtuous, sending Albion the Branded Dragon to the Graveyard and destroying Sargas, allowing its effect to resolve. 

Crosley Special Summoned Therion “King” Regulus and equipped it with DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio from the Graveyard, then activated Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron in the Pendulum Scale. He activated the effect of DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea in hand, destroying Jupredo, Special Summoning Drastea, and equipping it with DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G”. Next, he used the effect of Jupredo to search for Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus, then activated Terminus, sending Jupredo to the Graveyard to search for Vidolium the Unstable Power Patron of Unity. He activated Vidolium in the Pendulum Scale, Special Summoned back Jupredo, and searched for Plundered Power Patron Plane – Vidolia, then activated Vidolia to banish a card from hand and Special Summon another Jupredo from Deck. Crosley used the two copies of Jupredo to Xyz Summon Varudras, the Final Bringer of the End Times! He activated DoomZ Change, then Chained the effect of Drastea to destroy Change, allowing him to send DoomZ Destruction to the Graveyard, then add it back to hand. Finally, he used Drastea’s effect to Special Summon DoomZ XII End – Drastrius, Set a card to his backrow, and proceeded to the End Phase. There, he used Albion’s effect to Set another The Fallen & The Virtuous to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Nguyen drew another copy of Kewl Tune Cue for turn! With a hand full of Kewl Tune monsters, he knew that he wouldn’t be able to push through Crosley’s board, and conceded.

Duel 2

Nguyen chose to go first in the second Duel, and opened with Kewl Tune Reco, The Fallen & The Virtuous, Solemn Warning, and two copies of Kewl Tune Mix. In the Standby Phase, Crosley activated the effect of Dimension Shifter! Nguyen began his turn by Normal Summoning Kewl Tune Reco and activating its effect to search for Kewl Tune Rotary. He then activated the effect of Rotary, then Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Mix and searched for Kewl Tune Cue! He used Rotary from hand and Reco on the field to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Track Maker and search for JJ “Kewl Tune”. Here, Crosley activated the effect of Bystial Magnamhut, Special Summoning it by banishing Dimension Shifter from his own Graveyard. 

Next, Nguyen activated JJ “Kewl Tune”, then Normal Summoned Kewl Tune Cue and Special Summoned Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his Deck. He used Track Maker and Ash to Synchro Summon Zalen the Shackled Dragon, then used Zalen and Cue to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune B2B! Nguyen activated the second effect of JJ “Kewl Tune”, Tributing Kewl Tune Mix to search for Kewl Tune Cue, then Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn. During the End Phase, Crosley resolved Magnamhut’s effect to search for DoomZ VII Seven – Elara. 

Crosley started by activating DoomZ Change, destroying DoomZ V Five – Amalthe from his Deck. He used Amalthe’s effect to search for Jupredo the Shademachine Power Patron, as Nguyen used B2B’s effect to Special Summon Kewl Tune Reco back to the field, then used Reco and Cue to Synchro Summon Kewl Tune Loudness War. Crosley followed up by activating DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.” and equipping it to Nguyen’s Loudness War, then used ‘DoomZ Command “A.D.R.A.S.T.E.I.A.”’s effect to destroy Loudness War and Special Summon Amalthe from the banishment. He activated the effect of DoomZ XII Zero – Drastea in hand, but Nguyen Chained Solemn Warning, destroying Drastea! Crosley Normal Summoned DoomZ VII Seven – Elara and activated its effect to Set DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G” to his backrow, as Nguyen used B2B’s effect to Special Summon back Loudness War. Crosley equipped DoomZ Command “D.O.O.M.D.U.R.G” to Elara, then activated DoomZ Raiders. He used Raiders’ effect to destroy Amalthe and Special Summon Power Patron DoomZ from the Deck. He used the Power Patron’s effect to use Magnamhut to Xyz Summon DoomZ XII End – Drastrius and equip it with Nguyen’s B2B! 

Crosley was now able to activate Elara’s effect, using it to Xyz Summon Doomz Break – Diactorus and destroy Raiders, which in turn allowed him to destroy Nguyen’s Loudness War. Crosley used Dicatorus to Xyz Summon DoomZ XIII Over – Graflareio, then detached Diactorus to search for  DoomZ Raiders and destroy Nguyen’s JJ “Kewl Tune”. He proceeded to the Battle Phase and attacked directly with both Graflareio and Drastrius, activated DoomZ Raiders, then ended his turn. 

Nguyen drew Called by the Grave for turn. However, he knew that he would not be able to break through Crosley’s board of DoomZ monsters, and conceded. 

Nguyen wins the round and improves to a 10-2 record here at YCS Columbus!
