Dragon Duel Championship Playoff Feature Match: Phillip Musso vs. Danil McQuillin
Phillip Musso won today’s Dragon Duel tournament. He’s here from New Orleans, and he’s piloting a D/D/D strategy. He’s up against yesterday’s winner Danil McQuillin, originally from Ukraine but now living in Roswell, GA. He’s using an Infernity Pendulum FTK strategy, looking to pull off a huge combo to win in a single turn. The victor here will become YCS Atlanta Dragon Duel Champion! More than a title, they’ll win an awesome trophy and a set of the Darklord YCS Prize Cards!
Duel 1
Musso began with three cards face-down. He activated Prohibition, declaring Toadally Awesome. After the Duel, he said he had heard his opponent used Paleozoics, but also heard he was using Infernity. So when he drew Prohibition, he decided to just go for it.
McQuillin began with Dragon Shrine, Purple Poison Magician, 2 Summoner Monk, Duelist Alliance, and Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm. He played Darkwurm in his Pendulum Zone, using its effect to put Supreme King Gate Zero on the field. He played Dragon Shrine, sending Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frisson to the Graveyard. He Pendulum Summoned Purple Poison and both Monks. He used a Monk’s effect, discarding Duelist Alliance to Special Summon Infernity Archfiend. He added Infernity Necromancer to his hand. He Link Summoned Firewall Dragon, then played Necromancer to get back Archfiend. Archfiend’s effect added another Necromancer to his hand, and it was all over from here. He performed a huge series of plays where he had Necromancer get back Archfiend, Archfiend add a Necromancer from the Deck, and then he Link Summoned – that would trigger Firewall and allow him to Special Summon the Necromancer in his hand. He went through Underclock Taker and Gaia Saber, the Lightning Shadow, eventually searched out both Infernity Launcher and Infernity Mirage (which Launcher discarded), played M-X-Saber Invoker to Special Summon Amazoness Archer, and Link Summoned a Tri-Gate Wizard. He started Tributing his monsters with his Archer, then made a Hundred Eyes Dragon to copy Infernity Mirage and get back two Necromancers, adding even more Summons. Leviair the Sea Dragon came after that, getting Mirage back to the field. Throughout all of this he was Tributing excess monsters with Amazoness Archer, and when Mirage’s effect brought even more monsters back, he had fired off over 8000 damage! Necromancer and Archfiend are an incredibly potent combination with Firewall Dragon!
Duel 2
Musso chose to play first again. He began by playing D/D Savant Kepler and Dark Contract with the Gate. He fused D/D Lamia with D/D Swirl Slime for D/D/D Oracle King D’Arc! That completely shuts down the Amazoness Archer combo if he can protect it.
McQuillin had a hand of Necromancer, Dragon Shrine, Allure of Darkness, Purple Poison, Armageddon Knight, and Destrudo. He played Dragon Shrine to put Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm in the Graveyard, and Special Summoned it. He put Supreme King Gate Zero in his hand and played both Gate Zero and Purple Poison in the Pendulum Zone. He Set Allure of Darkness, then Special Summoned Destrudo from his hand. He flipped Allure, drawing Darkwurm and Soul Charge – he banished Darkwurm. He Normal Summoned Armageddon Knight to put Archfiend Heiress in the Graveyard, which put Infernity Archfiend in his hand. He Tuned Destrudo to Darkwurm for Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon! He then used Meteorburst to Special Summon Gate Zero, and Xyz Summoned Number 42: Galaxy Tomahawk! He used its effect, and Musso destroyed it with Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. McQuillin still Special Summoned four Battle Eagle Tokens. He used all four tokens to Link Summon Firewall Dragon. He played Soul Charge, bringing back Meteorburst, Tomahawk, and Heiress. He used all of them, plus Armageddon Knight, for Saryuja Skull Dread! He drew Mirage, Monster Reborn, Necromancer, and Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. He kept Reborn in his hand. Firewall’s effect also resolved, and he Special Summoned Archfiend. Firewall bounced away Oracle King D’Arc, and Monster Reborn brought Meteorburst back. He wanted to attack, but the effects of both Soul Charge and Galaxy Tomahawk meant he wouldn’t be winning with battle damage this turn. He used Skull Dread to Special Summon Necromancer. Then, he used Skull Dread, Meteorburst, and Archfiend to play Tri-Gate Wizard, in the zone under Firewall. Necromancer brought Archfiend back, and he added Launcher to his hand. He used his Infernity monsters to play Underclock Taker (co-linked to Tri-Gate), and Launcher revived the Infernities immediately. He used Archfiend to get Necromancer. He used them for another Link Summon, for Proxy Dragon. Tri-Gate Wizard was now co-linked to Underclock, Proxy, and Firewall, giving it all of its effects! It banished Musso’s Dark Contract. He passed his turn with an incredibly dangerous field.
Musso played D/D/D Oblivion King Abyss Ragnarok in his Pendulum Zone. He used Swirl Slime in the Graveyard to Special Summon D/D Savant Thomas. He used Thomas’s effect, but it was negated and banished by Tri-Gate Wizard.
McQuillin drew Dragon Shrine. He banished Kepler with Tri-Gate Wizard. He Set Dragon Shrine, played Necromancer, and Special Summoned Archfiend. He moved to the Battle Phase, and it was all over from there!
Danil McQuillin is your YCS Atlanta Dragon Duel Champion with his Infernity Deck!
