Finals Feature Match: Yishan McNabb vs. Brian Chen

August 25th, 2019

These Duelists have surpassed 799 others to get this far. Two days and fifteen rounds of Dueling. But only one YCS Champion! Yishan McNabb’s Golden Castle of Stromberg + Gren Maju Da Eiza Deck is the talk of the tournament. Call him the Cinderella man because this fairy tale journey seems like a fantasy. His opponent is Brian Chen, playing a Sky Striker Deck. His Deck recently saw some changes due to the newest F&L List, and he’s here to prove that he can still compete with it. The Duelists are ready. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Chen won the dice roll and chose to play second. McNabb’s opening hand consisted of two Eater of Millions, Danger! Thunderbird!, Glife the Phantom Bird, and Called by the Grave. He used Glife’s effect, and Chen used Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, but McNabb used Called by the Grave to banish and negate Ash Blossom. He added Golden Castle of Stromberg to his hand and activated it, using it to Special Summon Hexe Trude in Defense Position. He activated Thunderbird, discarding Eater of Millions to Special Summon Thunderbird and draw Dinowrestler Pankratops. He used his monsters to Xyz Summon Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy!

Chen started things with Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole, then played Upstart Goblin. He used Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners!, Titanic Galaxy used its effect, and Chen played Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor to negate it. Afterburners resolved, destroying Titanic Galaxy. He Normal Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Raye, then Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. Shizuku added Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to his hand, and Multirole Set Widow Anchor.

McNabb drew Pot of Desires, then banished ten cards face-down for Golden Castle. He Special Summoned Pankratops, then used Golden Castle to Special Summon Hexe Trude. He used Hexe Trude’s effect on Widow Anchor, and Chen Chained it to negate Hexe Trude for the turn. McNabb played Pot of Desires next, banishing another ten cards face-down, and Chen had another Ash Blossom! McNabb played the last card from his hand, Eater of Millions, by banishing five cards from his Extra Deck face-down. Eater of Millions attacked Shizuku and banished it face-down, and Chen Special Summoned Raye from the Graveyard. Pankratops attacked Raye, and Chen used its effect to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. Pankratops continued its attack against Hayate, allowing Chen to send Sky Striker Airspace – Area Zero to the Graveyard. Hexe Trude attacked directly to drop Chen to 4300 Life Points. Finally, he tributed Pankratops to destroy Multirole.

Chen played Engage to add Raye to his hand and draw a card. He played Raye and Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari, getting Engage back to his hand. He played it again, this time getting Widow Anchor, and drawing another card. He used Sky Striker Mecha – Shark Cannon to Special Summon Titanic Galaxy, then two Widow Anchors to steal Hexe Trude and Eater of Millions! He started to declare attacks, and Titanic Galaxy attached Golden Castle to itself. Chen attacked with everything to drop McNabb to 4100 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, he used Kagari to play Hayate, then used Hexe Trude and Eater of Millions to play Knightmare Phoenix. He used Hayate to play Shizuku, and Set a back row card. In the End Phase, Shizuku added Sky Striker Mecharmory – Hercules Base to his hand.

McNabb had no cards remaining whatsoever, and drew Trade-In. No thelp here – the Duelists moved to their Side Decks for the second game.

Duel 2

Chen started the second Duel with Raye and a Set card. He Link Summoned Shizuku and added Engage to his hand.

McNabb started this time with a hand of Eater of Millions, Called by the Grave, two Hexe Trude, and Golden Castle of Stromberg. He drew Danger! Bigfoot!. He Set Golden Castle and activated Bigfoot. Its effect discarded Eater of Millions, so he Special Summoned Bigfoot and drew another Eater of Millions. He flipped Golden Castle, then Normal Summoned Hexe Trude. He used Hexe Trude to destroy Chen’s Set Shark Cannon, which he Chained to banish the Eater of Millions in the Graveyard. Hexe Trude attacked Shizuku, and its effect increased its own ATK by 400. Chen Special Summoned Raye from the Graveyard, and Hexe Trude attacked it as well. Raye’s effect brought in Sky Striker Ace – Hayate, and Hexe Trude’s attack continued against Hayate. Hayate sent Sky Striker Maneuver – Jamming Waves! To the Graveyard. Hexe Trude’s effect then boosted Bigfoot by 400 ATK, and Bigfoot attacked directly. In Main Phase 2, McNabb Xyz Summoned Titanic Galaxy and Set Called by the Grave.

Chen played Multirole, Set Shark Cannon, and used Multirole’s effect by sending Shark Cannnon to the Graveyard. McNabb tried using Titanic Galaxy on Multirole, but Chen had Widow Anchor! Chen activated Engage to get Raye and draw a card. He played Raye and used it to play Kagari, allowing him to replay Engage; he used it to get Sky Striker Maneuver – Afterburners! and draw a card. He played Afterburners to destroy Titanic Galaxy and Golden Castle. He attacked, then used Kagari to play Shizuku, and McNabb flipped Called by the Grave to negate Shizuku for the turn. Chen Set a back row card, and Multirole’s effect Set Engage, Widow Anchor, and Shark Cannon.

McNabb drew Bigfoot. He activated its effect, discarding Bigfoot itself, and it destroyed Multirole. He Special Summoned Eater of Millions, banishing his entire Extra Deck, and attacked, knowing Chen had the Widow Anchor to negate Eater of Millions! He knew this Duel was just about over.

Chen flipped Engage to get Area Zero and draw a card. He played another Engage to get Widow Anchor and draw yet another card. He activated Area Zero, used its effect on his Shark Cannon, and Chained Shark Cannon to Special Summon Titanic Galaxy. Area Zero got another copy of itself. Chen Normal Summoned Raye and attacked with it and Shizuku. He Set two back row cards.

McNabb drew Twin Twisters and Set it.

Chen went directly into the Battle Phase, and McNabb offered the handshake!
