Round 5 Feature Match: Brandon Miotke vs. Owen Alvarado

June 1st, 2024

We’re halfway through the first day of YCS Indianapolis, and the best Decks are making their way to the top. We have Brandon Miotke with us for this Feature Match, here from Deerborn, MI, with a Tenpai Snake-Eye Deck. He’s facing Owen Alvarado, from New Orleans, LA, using Centur-Ion. Tenpai are a new strategy from Legacy of Destruction, and Centur-Ions also got a huge boost from the set, making this an LEDE battle!

Duel 1

Alvarado had Centur-Ion Gargoyle II, Wake Up Centur-Ion!, Centur-Ion Bonds, Bonfire, and Centur-Ion Trudea. He led with Trudea, and Miotke said this was his first time against Centur-Ions. Alvarado used Trudea’s effect, and Miotke gathered that he should negate that with Effect Veiler. Alvarado Special Summoned Gargoyle II in Defense Position, sending Trudea to the Graveyard. He played Bonfire, and Miotke hit it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Stymied, Alvarado passed.

Owen Alvarado

Miotke Set a card in his back row and passed.

Alvarado drew Pot of Prosperity. He played Bonds, placing Trudea as a Continuous Trap Card. That let him activate Wake Up to Special Summon a Level 8 Centur-Ion Token. He used Pot of Prosperity next, banishing 6 cards, and Miotke had Ash Blossom once again. Alvarado Special Summoned Trudea, then used its effect, but Miotke flipped Infinite Impermanence. He may not have had a way to advance his own plan, but he had plenty of ways to stop Alvarado’s! Alvarado used Gargoyle II and Trudea to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, attacking directly.

Miotke finally drew some action! He moved directly to the Battle Phase and activated Sangen Kaimen, adding Tenpai Dragon Chundra to his hand and Special Summoning it. Chundra attacked the Token and used its effect to Special Summon Tenpai Dragon Fadra. Fadra attacked S:P Little Knight, destroying it. He then Synchro Summoned Sangenpai Bident Dragion, which revived Fadra, which then revived Chundra. He attacked with everything, then Synchro Summoned Sangenpai Transcendant Dragion! It attacked directly to end the first Duel!

Duel 2

Alvarado started this time with Forbidden Droplet, Skill Drain, Infinite Impermanence, Dimensional Barrier, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. This was like what Miotke had in the last game. He Set Skill Drain, Barrier, and Droplet.

Miotke Normal Summoned Snake-Eye Ash, and Alvarado flipped Skill Drain. Miotke played Bonfire, and Alvarado negated it with Ash Blossom. Miotke sent Effect Veiler to the Graveyard to Special Summon Diabellstar the Black Witch. He attacked directly with Snake-Eye Ash and Diabellstar, dropping Alvarado to 3700. He Set two back row cards.

Brandon Miotke

Alvarado drew… another Ash Blossom. He Set it.

Miotke activated Snake-Eye Ash’s effect, sending itself and Diabellstar to the Graveyard for the cost. Now that it wasn’t face-up, it was unaffected by Skill Drain, and Miotke Special Summoned Snake-Eyes Flamberge Dragon. It destroyed Alvarado’s Ash Blossom in battle.

Alvarado drew Droplet… and offered the handshake! With only a pile of reactive cards and not a single Centur-Ion in sight, he knew he wasn’t coming back from this Duel.

Brandon Miotke takes the Match with Tenpai Snake-Eyes!
