One of these Duelists is headed to the finals! We’ve got Toronto Duelist Anil Gangapersaud, playing Blitzclique, which has proven to be the Deck to beat in this event. He’s facing Felix Pfeiffer, from Cologne, Germany, using Radiant Typhoon. Pfeiffer’s had plenty of strong results in Europe, but he’d actually never played a Genesys Match before this tournament! He got this far with his previous Advanced Format skills, but Gangapersaud’s Blitzcliques are standing in his way.

Duel 1

Gangapersaud won the dice roll and played first, with a hand of Pot of Extravagance, Mystical Space Typhoon, Emi Blitzclique, Grain Blitzclique, and Surge Blitzclique.

He began with Extravagance, banishing six cards to draw Hideout in the Sky, Coulomb and Whisker Blitzclique. He Normal Summoned Surge, then played Coulomb. He activated Coulomb’s effect, handing over a Mech Beast Token to add another Whisker to his hand. He destroyed Coulomb to Special Summon Grain, triggering his Surge’s effect to add an Emi to his hand. He Special Summoned Emi and destroyed the Mech Beast Token. He returned Coulomb to his hand, then Grain added Blitzclique – Breakaway to his hand. He activated Breakaway to place Blitzclique Alternator on the field. Pfeiffer activated Radiant Typhoon Krosea’s effect in his hand, trying to Special Summon it. Gangapersaud Chained Whisker, Special Summoning it and destroying his Grain. Krosea hit the field. In a new Chain, Emi’s effect activated to add Blitzclique Return Stroke to his hand, and Whisker returned Surge to negate Krosea’s effect on the field. He activated Coulomb, then Set all his spells and traps.

Pfeiffer used the effect of Noble Knight’s Shield Bearer to add Radiant Typhoon Eldam to his hand. He Normal Summoned Eldam and activated its effect. Gangapersaud used Whisker, returning Emi to his hand to negate Eldam. Pfeiffer Chained Final Bringer of the End Times, targeting Eldam and Alternator. Pfeiffer then Chained Mystical Space Typhoon, targeting Gangapersaud’s own Set Mystical Space Typhoon. The Chain resolved, with all the targeted cards destroyed. Gangapersaud now Special Summoned the Emi he’d returned, and it destroyed Krosea. Pfeiffer Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Swen to add Radiant Typhoon Ascendance to his hand. He sent Swen to attack Emi. He then played Ascendance, and Gangapersaud flipped Return Stroke to negate it. Pfeiffer conceded!

Duel 2

Gangapersaud began this Duel with Surge, Gordian Slicer, Lava Golem, Grain, and Astrazma Urania.

Pfeiffer began with Noble Knights’ Shield-Bearer to add Eldam, and Special Summoned it. He used Eldam’s effect to add Krosea to his hand. He Special Summoned Swen, adding Radiant Typhoon Vision to his hand. He played Ascendance to add Mystical Space Typhoon, then Special Summoned Krosea. Its effect let him find Mystical Space Typhoon and Radiant Typhoon Chant. He used Chant to add Radiant Typhoon Meghala. He Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Fonix, the Great Flame, then stacked Eldam and Swen for Totem Bird. He Special Summoned Meghala, and activated Radiant Typhoon Vision. He Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Vision. He drew two cards and discarded Eldam, then Vision returned to the field face-down. He Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Vibrant Vortex. He Set three more back row cards to finish.

Gangapersaud drew another Lava Golem. He started with Gordian Slicer, returning Totem Bird and Meghala by banishing twelve cards from his Extra Deck. Next, he Tributed Fonix and Varuroon for Lava Golem! Pfeiffer flipped Ascendance, then used Mystical Space Typhoon on the Ascendance. He Special Summoned Swen, Set the destroyed Ascendance, and revived both Fonix and Varuroon. Swen’s effect added another Ascendance to his hand. Gangapersaud Tributed Varuroon and Fonix once again for his second Lava Golem! He used Grain’s effect on Pfeiffer’s Set Radiant Typhoon Vision, and Pfeiffer Chained it to draw two and discard Meghala, then Gangapersaud Special Summoned Grain. Pfeiffer Special Summoned a second Krosea, adding Mystical Space Typhoon from his Deck to his hand, and Varu from his Graveyard to his hand. Gangapersaud used Surge’s effect, targeting a Lava Golem. Pfeiffer Chained Final Bringer of the End Times, destroying the targeted Lava Golem and Grain in response. Gangapersaud conceded! Despite a ton of board breakers, he didn’t have enough to push his own gameplan through Pfeiffer’s field.

Duel 3

Gangapersaud began the final Duel with Grain, two copies of Coulomb, and two copies of Breakaway.

He began with Coulomb, and activated its effect to give away a Mech Beast Token and add Surge to his hand. He Normal Summoned Surge, then Special Summoned Grain by destroying Coulomb. Surge’s effect added Whisker to his hand. He activated Breakaway to get Alternator on the field. He used that to shuffle a Breakaway back and add Emi to his hand. He Special Summoned Emi and destroyed the Mech Beast Token. In a new Chain, he returned Coulomb from his Graveyard, and Grain added Blitzclique – Steppleader to his hand. He played Coulomb and Steppleader. He used Steppleader’s effect to Special Summon Whisker and destroy the Steppleader. Emi’s effect put Blitzclique Return Stroke in his hand. He Set Return Stroke and Breakaway.

Pfeiffer had his own Lava Golem! He Tributed Whisker and Surge to give it over. He played Radiant Typhoon Chant to try adding Mystical Space Typhoon to his hand, and Gangapersaud flipped Return Stroke to return Grain to his hand and negate Pfeiffer’s Spell Card. Gangapersaud returned Steppleader to his hand, Emi added Alternator to his hand, and Pfeiffer Special Summoned Krosea. Pfeiffer used Krosea’s effect, and Gangapersaud activated Alternator’s effect, returning his other Alternator to the Deck. Pfeiffer Chained Final Bringer, targeting his Krosea and Alternator! Both cards were destroyed, Alternator failed to resolve, and Krosea’s effect added Mystical Space Typhoon and Chant to his hand. He played Mystical Space Typhoon, targeting the Set Breakaway. Gangapersaud Chained it, returning Emi to destroy his own Return Stroke. Pfeiffer Special Summoned Meghala and played Chant. Gangapersaud responded by banishing Return Stroke, adding Whisker to his hand. Pfeiffer’s Chant added Eldam to his hand, and he Special Summoned it. Gangapersaud activated Whisker’s effect in the hand, Special Summoning Whisker, Grain, and Emi, and destroying Meghala. Meghala’s effect resolved, and he Special Summoned Varuroon. Gangapersaud used Grain’s effect to add Breakaway to his hand, and he returned his other Breakaway from the Graveyard. Pfeiffer Special Summoned Eldam, adding Swen to his hand. He Special Summoned Swen, which added Radiant Typhoon Vision to his hand. He moved to the Battle Phase, with Gangapersaud’s monsters all in Defense Position. Eldam destroyed Grain, and Swen destroyed Emi. Pfeiffer played Vision, drawing two and discarding Krosea. He Special Summoned Fonix, and sent it to attack Whisker. In Main Phase 2, he used Sen and Eldam to Xyz Summon Totem Bird. He Set his last card in his back row.

Gangapersaud drew Dominus Spiral and took 1000 damage from Lava Golem. He switched it to Attack Position. He tried activating Coulomb’s effect, and Pfeiffer flipped Cosmic Cyclone to banish it. Then, he used Fonix’s effect to shuffle Lava Golem back into his Deck. Gangapersaud played Breakaway, and Pfeiffer negated it with Totem Bird. Gangapersaud Set Breakaway and Dominus Spiral.

Pfeiffer activated Radiant Typhoon Vision in the Draw Phase, with no other cards in hand! He drew two, and discarded Meghala. He used Fonix on Gangapersaud’s Set cards, and Gangapersaud flipped Breakaway to try and place a trap on the field. Pfeiffer played another Radiant Typhoon Vision, and Gangapersaud flipped Dominus Spiral on Totem Bird. Totem Bird was returned to the Extra Deck, and Vision added Mystical Space Typhoon to Pfeiffer’s hand. Breakaway put Alternator on the field. Pfeiffer sent Fonix to attack directly. He Set his Mystical Space Typhoon. In the End Phase, Gangapersaud used Alternator to return Steppleader to his Deck and add Surge to his hand. Then he banished Alternator from the Graveyard to add Steppleader to his hand.

Gangapersaud drew Breakaway. He played Steppleader and activated its effect, and Pfeiffer flipped Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy it. Gangapersaud Chained Alternator, returning Steppleader to the Deck to add Whisker to his hand. He played Coulomb, then activated its effect to give Pfeiffer a Mech Beast Token, adding Grain to his hand. He Normal Summoned Surge, then played Breakaway to return Surge and destroy Varuroon. He returned another Breakaway from his Graveyard to his hand, and Pfeiffer used Fonix to shuffle Coulomb and Alternator into the Deck. Gangapersaud used Whisker to Special Summon Whisker, Surge, and Grain, destroying Pfeiffer’s monsters. Surge and Grain added Crackle and Coulomb, respectively. He attacked with everything, boosted by Coulomb, for 7500 damage – just enough to win!
